He would have really burnt his hand though, i‘ve shot the „mg 74“ which is essentially the same gun with a slower rate of fire, and you need a special glove to even touch the barrel.
Cod: WW2 pisses me off with all the gun inaccuracies. The Ppsh fires around 700 rpm, which is slower than the mp28 which has around what the ppsh should have in fire rate. The mg42 fires hella slow compared to real life. Just annoying that they don’t care about making the guns right.

Ian Holbrook, well they wanted to make it like that, i was actually thinking about the same once i post my comment but well, stalker have shitty reloads, shooting animations but everyone love that game. I think is a little stupid judge a game for realism instead of gameplay, cod ww2 had a pretty cool arcade fast paced gameplay compared with others games, it didnt feel so slow and didnt exaggerate the fast combat of games like cs go or quake, i personally liked the gameplay, but well, what can be done.

My favourite implementation of the MG42 was in Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45. Great sounds, as frighteningly effective as it should be, and it even had a barrel swap mechanic.

what kind of similarities does the mg42 has with the minigun? The miniguns "older brother" is more like the gatling gun, for example multiple barrels.

I just love the thing in CoD: WW2 that you fire a "1200 rpm" machine gun with literally no recoil and lowest possible iron sight movement. On top of all that, gun feels so slow it looks like it's 600-700 rpm.

Fun Fact: The MG-42's fire rate was nerfed in world at war multiplayer because it could shred anyone instantly, but they have the normal fire rate in the campaign

Company of Heroes Blitzkrieg Mod also has a frighteningly effective MG42. 6 men squad walks up a street, a MG42 shoots out of nowhere, cuts down 2 and the other 4 crawl around in panic. Best RTS ever.

Oh my god, the MG-42 in Call of Duty WW2 and the Sniper Elite games shoots like shit. Why is the rate of fire on what is supposed to be "Hitler's Buzzsaw" so abysmally slow? Why do they sound like BB guns? I'm surprised that Far Cry 4 and Payday 2, both of which are games that aren't even set in World War 2, managed to represent the weapon so much better.
And Payday 2 even got the reload correct (although the drum magazine isn't correct iirc).

In cod ww2, if you use the mg42, pair it with the extended mag and rapid fire to create a pretty cool weapon bcause it has low recoil and the rapid fire makes it a laser gun, that can destroy enemy players. but it's just my opinion

MG42 reloading: drag the charging handle back an fourth, take the lid thing up, insert belt or drum mag, slam the lid down and you're good to go

So, fun fact, you can use the , and . keys to watch videos frame by frame,
just for a point of comparison, I counted frames between bullets on the first two clips at 60fps.
COD:WW2 saw a bullet fired every five frames at full auto,
Five frames per bullet, a 12th of a second per bullet,
so 12 rounds per second, or 720 RPM... less than HALF of the MG42's maximum RPM.
by contrast, Far Cry 4's MG42 seemed to alternate between 2-3 frames per bullet, 2.5 on average, double the pace of the COD:WW2 gun, and falling well within it's accurate 1200-1500 RPM by using the same calculation,
if you wanted to really pinpoint the difference between the two, that's it.
Fun fact: The MG 42 was used as the model for the DLT 19 blaster rifle seen in Star Wars. In fact, the majority of the Star Wars blasters are based on real world guns.

The Germans actually had to change barrels more often than magazines or ammo boxes. they changed barrels every 5-10 seconds to not overheat the barrel. they had about 5 extra barrels with them to make the others cool down before use and it took about 5-10 seconds to change the barrely depending on the skill of the crew operating it.
