its not possible to reach that boss until you beat the first 3 bosses and their biomes since you need all 3 weapons to find the path towards that boss

Thanks for the comments! I've been hoping to clarify this as some people have their doubts.
It's very possible to reach the pan flute/knife boss before beating all three of the other bosses because I did it.
You're correct in saying you need all 3 weapons to reach the biome where the knife boss is, but you don't actually need to complete the 3 biomes and the 3 biomes' bosses where you get those weapons.
I started with the Ruego al Alba, got the Veridicto and beat that biome's boss (so my first boss), then I got the Sarmiento y Centella. After getting S&C, I left that biome (without completing it or fighting the boss) and backtracked to find stuff. That's when I stumbled upon the Mother of Mothers and eventually got to the knife guy, making him my second boss.
As you can see, I never even touched the Crown of Towers where you get the Ruego al Alba because that was my starting weapon.
I hope this clarifies things. I'd absolutely hate for anyone to think I'm a liar.

Guru is right, guys! There is a Steam achievement that needs you to reach that boss in less than 30 minutes, and that is impossible if you go killing every previous boss. You can get the weapons and go straight to that guy under Mother of Mothers if you wish, and you must to get that achievement.

I have to agree, B1 lived in my head rent free while I was playing it and for weeks after. The friction in its gameplay seemed to feed into the overall themes of the game. There was something so evocative about the lore and atmosphere. The new, more refined B2 is already fading from memory after 100% even though I loved my time with it.

Great analysis, well done! Finished B2, 100% within 26 hours of gameplay. I can tell you that I enjoyed B1 much more. Even with all of its flaws, it is a more complete game overall. B2 is more streamlined in tone, story, music, and even animation. Difficulty-wise B2 is a less challenging game as well. Less suffering, less glory.

I don't know. Blasphemous 1 is too easy; not only can you curb-stomp literally every mob, but you don't even have to learn bosses' moveset, once you have proper build (debla of light is OP, and you can't do anything about it). Aside from Esdras and his gray copies - their hitboxes are just broken. Whereas BS2 has much more complex and challenging bosses, and normal enemies are almost impossible to stagger, which forces you to rely much more on parrying, timings, positioning, and overall strategy.
The only thing BS1 is truly much more hard (or, rather, frustrating) is platforming. I played it 4 times, got all the achievements, and I never repeated Miriam's challenges after I've got her prayer.

    • @MetroidvaniaGuru
      @MetroidvaniaGuru  10 місяців тому +1

@@user-od7hh8qg9d I'm with you on the Miriam Challenges. I hated those.
I guess I had a vastly different experience with the games than you. In B2, I was staggering everything with the Veredicto (I had a figure that increased stagger by 25%). None of the bosses gave me a challenge except Eviterno. I found so many damage mitigation beads that I basically tank-and-spanked every boss in the game. I honestly just prefer the bosses in the first game because they looked better and had more interesting lore.

    • @user-od7hh8qg9d
      @user-od7hh8qg9d 10 місяців тому +2

@@MetroidvaniaGuru that is correct, but let's be honest - the bosses from the first part have 1-4 attacks per average (I mean, the main story bosses). They're simpler mechanically, even Chrisanta has, like, 2 attacks aside from her superdashes.
As for Ecstatic Novice - this figure doesn't improve stagger, it simply improves your chance to get the enemy to the point when you can execute them. The chandelier guys could be staggered in the first game, and they only had hyperarmor during their attacks, but not even Veredicto can stop them now at any point.

My thoughts on seeing the ending was "ah, they'll fix this in the DLC" lmao. I 100 agree the bosses lacked the dramatic grandeur of the originals, though I did like the idea of other penitents like The Penitent One and Crisanta, working for the Miracle just like Escribar and Crisanta were; even despite them being weaker I did still think the designs were crazy cool! But also the lore for the penance of these so called Penitents is fuzzy for me... I must now see if there's anything on the wiki actually

I actually think atmosphere wasn't as amazing this time around, the game feels much lees bloody and much more holy:
-the lack of unique executions, which i understand is incredibly time consuming to animate 3 different thing for the 3 weapons but it's still a thing a miss, but one of the first DLCs (which were all free) of the previous game was adding more executions, so here's hoping.
-the random desperate npcs, not only the big giant monsters but just people being terrified by what's happening
-the pretty cutscenes, as you mentioned, they're REALLY too different and bright
-the guide, you go from a giant bdsm man with a deep voice to a shiny lady on a floating hand
-the story was just... worse and the good ending is too happy
-the lack of religion, since you already defeated the high wills and the pope in the last game there is no need for the cult of the miracle, as you can see in the location of the mothers of mothers, completely abandoned and deeply underground, yes there's a the whole thing about the mother and the father and the son with the wing on the chest, but aside from a few npcs, no one actually recognizes it and the ones that do are overall pretty happy about it.
-some areas are too small to enjoy them, the map is bigger but it's less crowded and once you unlock fast travel between prie dieus, moving around becomes trivial.
Overall i REALLY liked the game, the amount of platforming added to this title is amazing, even thou i would have wanted some more complicated sections, here the biggest difficulty is not seeing where you have to jump.

I get what you mean, but I do feel his happy ending was deserved. Dude was ressurected twice to die for the people, suffered all the guilt of the land and got rid of it, and killed 2 gods. The first games atmosphere was darker sure, but I think the ending was nice. As for the cutsceens I can agree, they were pretty bright, maybe more of a Mike Mignola (hellboy artist) style would have worked?

The only thing I needed help with was the final step, I didn't connect to the the right door in the chapel, BUT I did figure out the full cursed letter quest on my own.

Kudos on figuring out more of the A ending than me. Like I said, once I looked up what to do, I could see the clues everywhere (the cloth on the figures, the story, how some resonance names were named after the figures/envoys). I never placed the envoy figures in the places where they turned gold, but I bet if I did I would have figured the rest out 😆

I'm pretty confident that with new DLCs this game's narrative/endings will get equivalent if not better to the first game.
Comparing Blasphemous 2 to its predecessor on release date, I think they're pretty equal in terms of narrative. Sure I would have preferred more dynamic interacitons with NPCs, with different outcomes in the sequel like in the first game, but aside form the last DLC of the first game, the endings are just as underwhelming imo for both games.

What you mentioned about the platforming design of Blasphemous 1 was the major reason I quit that game. I love soulslikes and I enjoy metroidvanias, but dark souls' corpse run as a punishment for slightly messing up a platforming section is not cool. Platforming in fromsoft games is typically used very sparingly and the (required) jumps are not usually too taxing. When you add precision platforming levels of challenge in with the Souls instant death punishment for failure + the extra time of having to slowly trudge back to your corpse to try again, it doesn't work in my opinion. So if Blasphemous 2 has fixed that issue (what I considered the game's biggest flaw) then maybe I'd like Blasphemous 2 more.

I actually suspect that TGK, who made Blasphemous, got their hands on their own animation team (note the current cutscenes from B2 look a LOT like the trailers from Wounds of Eventide from the last game), and if that's the case, I can see why they'd have an impact on the cutscenes. The art shift is apparent when you look at the minor cutscenes from the first 3 normal bosses (Yes, pan pipe guy was actually a lot of fun, and yeah, if I'd have figured him out, I'd have steamrolled the rest of the game myself.). That, or it's the original art team that somehow figured out the True Level Up system we've all been hunting for all our lives.
As for the atmosphere, remember, the Grievous Miracle has been gone for 1000 years. Instead of the dark atmosphere of B1 where barely anyone is around thanks to that Miracle, there's more hope this time around, even if the remnants of the Miracle are trying to come back to destroy it all over again. It's only now, as the divine being is about to get born, that the atmosphere is shifting because it's all about to go back into the dark ages again.
The one key difference I found between B1 and B2, though, is controls. B1 was really hard to control at times for whatever reason, and I'd actually have to stop and walk away from the game after missing a key timed jump for the 30th time. I actually had to downgrade the graphics to make some maneuvers happen because of it. B2 doesn't have this issue. I've been playing right out of the box, as it were, and it comes across as supremely tight. Movement is clean and crisp, and it's obvious if I don't make a jump or series of maneuvers, it's an honest skill issue on my side, not the game deciding to chug at the wrong time but I have to pay for it.
That said, this was an excellent video, thanks for uploading!

If its one thing that people dont understand still, is that Blasphemous 2 is NOT a complete game in the sense that it's basically a very early iteration made easy to pick up and play for everyone; even those who havent played or dont care to play the original. You can NOT compare Blasphemous 2 to the original yet, its not finished, its like comparing 1/4th of a sequel to an og game.
I've completed this game a few times, and 100%ed it twice. I like this game alot, but I'm of two minds, though hopeful for the much needed future re-balancing among other things this game will require, to even be comparable to the first, as a whole. Albeit, my view are mainly positive, it does make the slight negatives stick evermore out like a sore thumb.
Blasphemous 2 is a good game, a good sequel and most definitely mv of the year, thats not even debatable...and though I can and do appreciate the "ease of access" approach they went with upon this one's release, it makes the though of what will be, fathomless.

cuz the cutscene just wont match with the actual ingame aesthetics , tone or the actual pixel art even , kinda immersion breaking.
not to mention the cutscenes in the first game is pixel art masterclass , they felt otherwordly, macabre and disturbing not to mention they felt grungy muddy gritty perfectly matched the in game graphics and the overall tone.
