You can't fish for big pike without a leader. You'll get broken off more times than not if you don't. If you're using lightweight mono, they will cut right through that.
@@LousyFishermen yeah they are not my favorite either. Especially when fly fishing. Gives a new meaning to the old chuck and duck lol but they are the only way I know to guarantee you don't lose your hooks to those toothy critters
I have fished like since I could walk,,, almost,, heh heh. I just don’t fish Bass Masters style. I let them take the hook and once they have a good bite I may set the hook to ensure they are on, but 8 times out of ten, they will hook themselves. This way they do take the hook a little deeper I find, so I haven’t fished for pike with barbs since the late 70s. My new favourite is fly fishing for them, but other than that nothing beats fighting the larger one with a nice bait caster. My dad used to always say, no sense ripping the hook right out of their mouths before they can get a good bite on it.
@@LousyFishermen Yeah, for sure. I usually use steel leaders. My biggest Pike is around 30 inches and 6-7 lb and if it wouldn't have been for the steel leader I wouldn't have landed it.
Gorgeous lake and some really decent fishing there! The fish seem pretty broad across the shoulders so they are clearly healthy!! I’m from down south in Alberta, but might be a nice road trip lake and hit some trout lakes as well. I hear ther can be some good trout fishing out near Rocky Mountain House as well. Make a nice 10 plus day loop! Get over to Pigeon Lake as well. Put some miles on!! Haha. Very awesome scenery. Thank you for sharing!!

It was 25lb flouro so much better then mono but still not as good as wire for sure.
Got me dreaming! Thanks for taking us along. Can’t wait for warmer days!
With a view like that..catching a fish is only a bonus.thanks for sharing
I love this lake tons of monster whitefish too I grew up in jasper and absolutely adore talbot
I’ve seen big schools of those whitefish but never tried for them, how did you fish for them? I lived in Jasper too but just for a few years
On the fly mainly or small panther Martin blue and silver. Nymph under a bobber or troll a leach pattern like a wooly bugger
invest in some steel leaders. You won't have any bite offs that way. I even use them on my fly rod and makes all the difference in the world.
I’ve always hated using them but I think you might be right!

Alternatively you could go for a really beefy Fluorocarbon leader. Like 80-100 pound

Hey guys…it’s a fishing video not a fucking rock concert lose the music
More witty banter, less tunes, on it. Thanks for watching.
This is a very nice lake. I drive by it every few months with my kayak but I've never stopped and tried it.
Wow amazing fishing I too like fishing love from India keep it up
I usually catch a jack fish every 3 to 5 casts
Maybe use a leader?!
Might have done that if I had one.
@@LousyFishermen There is no way you went fishing for Pike without a leader (amateur move)!
Actually honestly I don’t even own them. Flouro is usually good enough but mine needed to be heavier.

@@Caleb.M_Fishing i also never use leaders and have landed pike and musky well over 30 inches...just got to retie your lure after every pike.
Some nice pike and great video bro👍
Thanks!
