Wow. I never even heard of this and I was a big GI Joe guy in the 80's. I remember seeing lots of bright joes along with the space He-Man warming pegs in the early 90s. These might have been there too...
What's crazier is you assemble that entire thing yourself. My friend got one of these MIB back in 2005 and we assembled it together. I was blown away that we actually built the spring loaded chamber as I was sure that would have come pre-assembled.
I got my Monster Blaster APC brand new in unopened box several years ago and it was the version with a darker green body shell and lighter green interior. (I was a little disappointed because I always pictured the vehicle with the olive-colored body and wanted that version.) It's a definite variant. Mine was also the Canadian version with Canadian instead of American flags!
Y’all remember the commercial for the Monster blaster APC? That kid saying “lock, load, FIRE” was just a cheerful child, wishing he can actually bring home the toy. In all seriousness, the Monster Blaster APC is a pretty cool toy. I would really like one.
I wish they'd released non-neon variants of the 90's characters and would love to see this vehicle with less garish colors. Maybe someone out there will 3D print--oh, God, as writing this saw the info card! Even that is blindingly green!
I've never had a problem with Hasbro reusing trademarks across different brands, but I do find it funny that both of the original Joes in Mega Marines are just using Transformers names.
This is a very cool Joe toy. I can't deny the original APC is a favorite over this. The canon feature is the best. I always wished the Thunder clap did have the same type canon.
This was the only big GI Joe vehicle I had as a kid. It's a really cool one, 90s neon colors aside. Though I never used it as an APC. The gun can be elevated and can actually fire the projectile a considerable distance, so I used it as an artillery piece.
Back in '93 my buddy and I were 20, but still collected G.I. Joes. The Mega Marines we're not our favorites. I did really want the Toys 'R Us exclusive Dino-Hunter playset. We loved the Street Fighter line. When KB Toys was going out of business, they were selling all the Star Brigade figures for 2 for $5. We didn't manage to buy the aliens though.
I got the Monster Blaster for Christmas in 2020. Such a neat vehicle but admittedly I haven’t played with it much yet 😩 I like how much storage space it has!
Say what you want but I kind of liked the Monstro-Viper as a kid. The idea idea of Cobra having a giant monster to unleash on the Joes just kind of works, at least in my 8 year old imagination.
This was an excellent review! I have to admit the design and action feature makes this vehicle pretty fun. I do dig the Aliens movie call-back mentioned too.
I remember that one day I found my mega marines playdo covered in mold and my sister told me to throw it out. They must have changed something in the technology, cause current Playdo just dries, and does not go bad when it is closed.
I do like the B.A.T transport repaint of this in the early 00's I do wonder if they had intended to release more Mega Marines characters had the line taken off considering there is a total of 19 spots for figures (counted 2 foot pegs per figure) and only 4 Mega Marines .
Not to mention the team member numbers. As Hoodie observed there's no "number 5 and 6". If they continued I could even see another vehicle getting a number.
There was a really cool black and red reissue in 2004 as a Cobra BAT APC. This thing looks so mean it feels like it's related to the Cobra Rage and fits more with them than GI Joe.
Pretty cool vehicle, but I'd never get any of the figures that went with it. I'd put my 80's Joe's in there. Have you ever done a review of the Thunderclap?
I noticed a couple things. 1. There are only four members of this team, yet they built a APC capable of carrying 24 troops. 2. If you take a closer look at the box art you will see those are not bad guys riding inside. Apparently cloning is a thing, because they actually look like Gung Ho and Blast Off! Closer inspection reveals them in the compartment on the other side as well! ?!?
I waa never good with paint as a kid but all this needed to look good was spray paint the neon green black to look good. If you coukd really paint detail i bet you could make it look great.
13:40 This isn't really a criticism, but it woulda been nice if they molded a monitor into that flat wall the forward sitting guys look at. With the flat there they look like they're forced to sit that way cause the other guys don't like them or something lol.
As demonstrated by Dr. Mindbender, the "Monster Annihilating Missiles" are functionally useless against standard Cobra personnel. If I were Cobra, I'd just dress Cobra Troopers in dollar-store Halloween costumes and wait for the Monster Blaster to show up. Cobra would never lose a battle.
Great review, HCC788! That canon play value is awesome, and Dr. Mindbender finally went down. Very minor correction: The comic issue couldn't have been #173. Maybe #123?
It's too little, too late. But you could have almost done a "Breach Month". This, the Thunderclap (which you've already reviewed), and the Mountain Howitzer. I don't know of any others that had that level of play action.
As a kid I absolutely loved the designs but HATED the colours on these figures. And the fact that every single one I saw second hand the bright parts had been badly painted or scribbled on with marker indicated that it was far from an unpopular opinion. Whatever idiot decided bright was the way to go cost them a lot of sales. Never saw the vehicle to my memory though. :/
Wow. I never even heard of this and I was a big GI Joe guy in the 80's. I remember seeing lots of bright joes along with the space He-Man warming pegs in the early 90s. These might have been there too...
I had that when i was little it was pretty cool
The breach loading for the spring missile shooter is awesome.
What's crazier is you assemble that entire thing yourself. My friend got one of these MIB back in 2005 and we assembled it together. I was blown away that we actually built the spring loaded chamber as I was sure that would have come pre-assembled.
One of my favorites as a kid, mostly because of how much fun the cannon is.
I had the gun and shell for the Thunderclap and that was a lot of fun too
Great episode! I really love this toy... and I don't have it. I may have to fix that soon.
Great review! I was out of GI Joe by '93 but I remember seeing this at retail & loving it, what a fun design.
I love this vehicle. Holds modern figures pretty good as well
A lot cooler than I thought it would be great review
Agreed! This is a great vehicle. I recently restored one, never having owned it. Definitely if you want a fun g.i. Joe toy this is worth considering

I love this vehicle if I had the room I'd love to have one and another one to customize...
80's= Mega !
90's = Extream !
I agree with you, if you ignore the neon green color, it is a great vehicle!
I have the 2004 version. I wasn't buying G.I. Joes in 1993, so I never knew anything about the original vehicle when the re-release came out.
This vehicle reminds me of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, which carried six infantry soldiers.
I left GI JOE at the end of my 7th grade year. And seeing how the toy changed I'm glad I did.
So good to see you uploading regularly again HCC! We missed you!
I've never had a problem with Hasbro reusing trademarks across different brands, but I do find it funny that both of the original Joes in Mega Marines are just using Transformers names.
Great review, as always! I really would have liked to see the Monster Blaster fully loaded with as many troops as it could carry.
This is a very cool Joe toy. I can't deny the original APC is a favorite over this. The canon feature is the best. I always wished the Thunder clap did have the same type canon.

Love all the troop carriers! This, the APC, HISS II and Cobra Parasite!
terrific vehicle. played with this alot. love the design.
Good one HCC788, Thank You
Looks cool. I had never heard of this nor seen it. Time to watch the assembly video.

Congrats on your football team in Washington dear Commander
Great review! I didn't know about this vehicle. Thanks for doing it!
I got the Monster Blaster for Christmas in 2020. Such a neat vehicle but admittedly I haven’t played with it much yet 😩 I like how much storage space it has!
Always, special when you do vehicle reviews
There was also a 1988 Master Blaster Nintendo game
Nice review. It’s great to see the production values of your videos back up to your pre-move quality.
I was so happy to get a new cluch , but oh man I need to repaint my extra
Wow this thing can hold 24 guys
Awesome video! My household erupted into cheers when you got Dr. Mindbender with the 4th missile! XD
Say what you want but I kind of liked the Monstro-Viper as a kid. The idea idea of Cobra having a giant monster to unleash on the Joes just kind of works, at least in my 8 year old imagination.
Well, yeah, in the cartoon Cobra would do that, but it's not the realistic tone that was in the comic.
I know this isn't going to be popular but I loved the mega marines
I could reasonably build this thing in Crossout. I've already built approximations of the Patriot and the Rage Tank.
That version of Dr. Mindbender should be called the Geaux Tiger Doc.
That is an awesome vehicle! Great video as always! The patriot was another 90's vehicle with a ridiculous weapons system...
Nice vehicle. I hope I can find one someday.
I love everything about them. I know it's not the most popular set of colors but dang. It made me enjoy ugly shoes as an adult.
This review was soo in my face!
This was an excellent review! I have to admit the design and action feature makes this vehicle pretty fun. I do dig the Aliens movie call-back mentioned too.

“Mega pretty good” made me laugh out loud
There is indeed a 5 and 6. Its the two traitors seen on the box sitting in the APC. They switched sides. :P
My last Joe vehicle as a kid! I still want to get the color-inverted variant...
That cannon rocks!
There was a really cool black and red reissue in 2004 as a Cobra BAT APC. This thing looks so mean it feels like it's related to the Cobra Rage and fits more with them than GI Joe.

Enjoyed this
Great, now I desperately want one . . . .
I kinda want one now Hoodie!

Great review man!
Somehow the uniform they gave Gung Ho reminds me of Strontium Dog.
I have the 2004 version. It was the BAT Apc (not sure what it was called) it came with three cobra bats
Like all GIJ vehicles and weapons systems, they would be impractical in real life.
never saw this. seems like at this time id be putting it out on the shelves
Great review, HCC788! That canon play value is awesome, and Dr. Mindbender finally went down. Very minor correction: The comic issue couldn't have been #173. Maybe #123?
137
I had bought this dude twice. Once as a kid n once 8 years ago. I hope my dad didnt toss it twice!
16:49 I'm pretty sure that those laser guns are supposed to be the other way around, the one on the left in the right and so on.
😎👍
In the comics, the Monster Blaster crashed, never to be seen or heard from again...
The artwork seems to be intentional
About the “missiles” being ordinance, not rockets. The blast is coming from the gun, not the projectile.
It's too little, too late. But you could have almost done a "Breach Month". This, the Thunderclap (which you've already reviewed), and the Mountain Howitzer. I don't know of any others that had that level of play action.
Aliens had action figures in 1993 from Kenner
Poor Dr. Mindbender.
Are those supposed to be bad guys inside? I always assumed it was just Gung ho and blast off drawn again and also on the other side
P Nice review too bad you didn't not not have them b a t carrier to compare
Hey HCC not everything was mega in the 90's, you forget the EXTREME factions
As a kid I absolutely loved the designs but HATED the colours on these figures. And the fact that every single one I saw second hand the bright parts had been badly painted or scribbled on with marker indicated that it was far from an unpopular opinion.
Whatever idiot decided bright was the way to go cost them a lot of sales.
Never saw the vehicle to my memory though. :/
MEGA!!!!!!!
If you like this, wait till you see it in iron grenadiers colors.
You should write some music reviews instead of toy ones all the time I would like your veiw on some day
No bad guys in the back it's gung ho and blast off.
I was always curious what drugs the designers were on during the rainbow vomit era.
This was the only cool thing to come from mega marines everything else in that subline was just crap.
Even the stuff that wasn't neon went with color schemes that made very little sense.
