    the cobra rage was such a cool vehicle. I had the 1997 Version. I missed out on the original 1990 one.I still think it was the best cobra vehicle made in the whole line.

      The 1997 Rage was a much better color scheme than the 1990. I'd recommend it because it has a more classic Cobra look. The decals on all the 1997 vehicles are terrible, though. So it's best not to apply them. The '90 Cobra Rage and Cobra Piranha were the last two vehicles I bought from the original line. They were both pretty solid.

    The 1997 Rage DID have a driver, a nice blue-ish repaint of the second version of Alley Viper (which was SUPPOSED to be the original Alley Viper mold, that would've been even nicer).

    I had both the 1990 and the 1997 versions of the Cobra Rage. I used to remove all of the blue parts from the 1997 version and add all of the red parts from the 1990 Rage to create a pretty sweet red and black hybrid of the two.

    15:06 I would use tank drivers to drive the tank, and that is why Hasbro should sell extra Cobra tank drivers on card.
    Also The Rage probably works for multiple environments.

    I had the original when it came out and liked it. I bet if you combined the black body of the 1997 version with the red hatches, missiles, and canon turret of the 1990 version it would look awesome.

    I love the idea of Cobra characters and vehicles that are centered on the concept of "urban assault", always thinking the majority of Joe vs Cobra battles would be like the Battle of Springfied. Small, quick skirmish type battles. I'm currently working on a 1:6 Crimson Guard Urban Assault Specialist who is going to eventually have a backpack that will pull him up a zip-line that he fires from a specialized launcher.

      Mr Speigel the best advice I can give you is to save every odd bit of plastic, metal, wire, broken tech, your choice of glue types and a few basic colors and just go crazy with experimental kit-bashing. Once you’ve collected a box of loose pieces, you’ll have a blast just trying stuff out!

      @@MasterGenshu reptilian overlords(I believe that's the company name) has been making Cobra heads to go with IG models from 40k for a while now they do Cobra troopers, vipers , crimson guard and Iron grenadiers and they come in tens plus a character head. I put a decent amount of thoughts into a 1/18 scale miniature game several years ago but it's a crunchy old school miniature rpg hybrid. But I have the thought now the trick is to make it team play instead of one on one the downsize to that is it can be hard for miniature gamers to find other players let alone 6 or 7

    For a '90s vehicles, the Rage looks slick and fast. The low profile and wedge shape reminds me of poster super cars from the '80s (Lamborghini Countach, Lotus Esprit, etc.). The Rage looks like it would be at home on a racetrack.

    Hi, I'm from Brazil. This is the only GI Joe/Cobra vehicle I've ever had. My mother gave it to me in 94 or 95. Just found it today and it's in almost perfect condition. I have all 4 mines and no piece is missing on the vehicle but I don't have the box it came in and no stickers on it. It is a different color (silver/red) and the only thing is I broke the things on the doors hinges. I have a cobra and a gi joe figure but I don't know their names and I lost their guns. I really love this vehicle. My cousin had a gi joe mobile battle bunker but sadly it didn't survive to this day. Don't know why I thought it's name was cobra fury but now I know it's cobra rage. Don't like to put the turret up because of the noise it makes. Don't like the noise it makes when it's rolling either.

    Great review! I feel like you're one of the fairest GI JOE toy reviewers on UA-cam, and one of the better toy reviewers in general. I always enjoy how thorough you are in looking at the toys, and your input on rationales (and sometimes possible rationales), and information on known details and history in regards to each toy you review. I've made decisions on whether to and whether NOT to buy toys based on many of your reviews, actually. Hasbro's often strange approach to toy design often has me on the fence in retards to many of the GI JOE and Cobra vehicles, so in those cases in particular, you've help me decide whether to invest or not. A lot of GI JOE vehicles are a given, but let's face it. There are some odd ducks in the line that don't seem particular well designed or carefully thought out. Hasbro is notorious for cutting corners and using inferior plastics in their vehicles. I can't begin to list all the times that reviewers have used the words "fragile" to describe aspects of Hasbro's toys. It seems like every vehicle suffers from fragile parts that don't survive play, or simply age well. At age 50, I don't play with a lot of toys anymore, but it is always good to know what to look for and to look out for with these toys. Thank you so much for providing many viewers like me with an education on such matters, and also thank you so much for all your excellent, polished reviews!

    I built an approximation of the Rage in Crossout, however concessions had to be made in relation to the weapons. I used a casemate machine gun in the front end in lieu of a Gatling gun, a plasma rocket launcher, and a mine layer. To simulate the conical wheels I used the dualie wheels, also simulating the wide traction allowed by the design.

    I always wondered if this was originally designed to be an Iron Grenadiers toy/vehicle; before they were re folded back into COBRA. It had a lot of similarities with Destro's (other) vehicles. Like the D.E.M.O.N. & Raiserback it had a 3 man crew and his early signature elevation feature. While the under torrent guns were locked down they served as rear guns somewhat similar to those on the D.E.M.O.N. Destro's Dominator had the Projectile Launcher/Rocket Pod, even if it went by a different name. Finally, the notably unserpentine name also sounds more like something Destro would designate for his own forces; not something he or COBRA Command would select for a COBRA vehicle. Maybe "in story" the first were rolling off the M.A.R.S. assembly lines when he rejoined COBRA.

    As a kid I didn´t have it, but a friend did. I really liked it, it was awesome, it was the rage. Now that I look at it years afterwards, as with many vehicles of the line, it is over-weaponized, the gunner in the turret is very exposed... it´s over the top all around. Considering that it was a toy for kids, I suppose that was the idea. Now the core concept of the vehicle in question, is not at all senseless. After some modifications, the gunner operating the turret from the inside the vehicle, a slight change in the dimensions and less superfluous armament, and it may be a feasible weapon.
    As for the right driver, well, it looks like an light armored, fast moving, wheeled assault vehicle... once again, the Motor Vipers (since it´s not a tracked vehicle) would be the best qualified for operating the Cobra Rage (it´s just my opinion though).
    Very good video HCC788, keep up the good work...

    I do hope you find the mines eventually. I never owned this one back in the day neither met somebody who did, but even now I think this is a cool vehicle and I would have loved to have it, although I agree it would have been better if Hasbro had given the Rage a driver figure.

    I'm honestly not sure what I think about the Rage. Sometimes I think it's ok, other times I think it's overrated. It just seems too "flimsy" to be much of a tank-like vehicle. The wide wheel base is horrible for urban use, the cannon seems too long to be practical in tight quarters, and the colors while not bad at all are simply "not Cobra." I guess they make sense, since it came out in '90, with the Gulf War going on, but... gimme a HISS any day of the week. Still, not the worst vehicle by a long shot. I'm looking at you, Road Toad!

    What month did new GI Joe figures usually come out in the 80s? Second question what happens to all the leftover toys still on the pegs that were discontinued for that year?

    • @Tr0nzoid
      @Tr0nzoid 4 роки тому +1

      I first saw the new year's figures around March or April, along with some of the vehicles.

    • @LegendoftheDragonSword
      @LegendoftheDragonSword 3 роки тому

      The figures were generally discontinued every 2 years. There were exceptions such as Storm Shadow ('84-'86). They stayed on the racks until they sold, so you could still find them years later. I remember seeing ('83-'84) Major Bludd at a Walgreens downtown for $9 in about 1988. Crystal Ball was still sitting on pegs in 1990.

    60/40 vehicle. It passes as decent. Like original colors although not Swat Team colors for urban scenary. The wheels and wheel clips are ugly..threaded rubber wide tires and armored hub caps would have been more sensible but its Hasbro, logic is out the window. Top mounting gunner needs protection, a look through guard would have been a sensible addition. Wheels are my number 1 issue, but an acceptable Cobra vehicle.

    I appreciate your review, but I must say this is one of my least favorite Cobra vehicles. I just didn't care for the unrealistic look. I thought of it more as a tank because of the turret, but again I love tanks, but just not this...thing. It reminded me a little of the Ice Sabre which came out about the same time. I do have this complete vehicle, but its put away so I can display more of my favorites. Thanks again. I do realize they did alot of r and d to bring this vehicle into the mix. It did have alot of play features , so I can see kids having a good time with it. Thats what really counts. Just not for me...

    Aside from the issues of where does the ammo load from on the top cannon, and the dual Gatlin guns below it, i loved this vehicle. Urban assault always gets my blood pumping and with the Rage being a much lower profile than the HISS 1 or 2 I think its a winner. Plus a flip down ramming shield?!! C'mon, you have a big vehicle that could plow thru a Vamp or Silver Mirage.

    I just do not like the rage. The turret is OK, but the elevating gimmick ruins that for me.
    The idea of a desert/urban themed Cobra vehicle is awesome. I would just want an SUV/Striker hybrid for that. Some thing like the Camp/Stinger turned into an A TEAM van with a turret on top. In cobra blue/black, or desert grey. Give it a camo pattern and call it a side winder.

  • @torpedo8384

    Love this vehicle! It's the embodiment of "few problems can't be solved with overwhelming firepower" and "Best defense is a good offense" at the same time! Never too much dakka for Cobra.
    Yeah tank is a misnomer as this is better termed as an AFV/IFV, but really, most kids would call it a tank. Besides, what defending infantry soldier is going to quibble about terminology when this monster is coming at them with sloped armor, rockets, missiles, cannons and three gatling guns roaring away? Not to mention the supporting Alley Vipers behind it!
