Getting the PCB unit free of the housing was a struggle, but it suddenly let go all at once. And I broke a tab on that front trim piece, but don't know how. I had no trouble removing it. That aside, under an hour of work, and that includes returning to this video when I was struggling to get the board free. Glad I found this video before actually buying a whole new PCB. I had fun powering the washer on and off during the test step--after a couple years of the On button responding less and less reliably. I will note here that LG designed the Off function to only take effect after a long touch unlike the fast response to a touch for On. This is to avoid inadvertent Off actions. Many thanks, sir. If only the Search function in YT worked better so I could have found this video as one of the first I got served....
You don't need to tear the whole thing apart to get the tinfoil behind the button. I just fixed mine with the same problem by sliding the tinfoil behind the button. Taking the back off the washer was the only thing I had to do. I didn't have to take it all apart like you did in the video. Just trying to save people from all the work and time. Thank you for saving me hundreds of dollars and now my washer works when I need it! I'm so happy!
@@fredstewart5163 but i still have to fiddle with it from time to time. It still runs fine. In the beginning it would keep shutting off mid cycle. I just unplug it and reposition the foil. Great times!
Not completely true about not taking it entirely apart. I had to take mine completely apart. The spring had a tiny piece of foam over it. Factory put it on. I had to remove the foam, build up the foil inside the spring casing and then covered it with foil to get it to work.
Bro just did this with the washer we bought in 2021. THANK YOU SO FREAKING MUCH! I feel very empowered that I was able to save hundreds of dollars and my partners are thankful too. THANKS A TON DUDE!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! Your video just saved me several hundred dollars!!!!! I think that this is due to a design flaw in the machine. If you look on the video at the 6:48 mark, (the back of the front panel) - where the power (spring) is supposed to contact the round part of the black shape------ it actually ends up lining up with the little notched part that extends to the right of the round part! It does not line up with the front panel! Rather than fitting aluminum foil around the spring, I folded a piece of it to cover the round shape, plus the extended portion, plus just a little more - and taped it to the inside of the front panel. Works like a charm! THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO - I am going to share it in the hopes that you can help hundreds of others save hundreds of dollars!
Thank you for your kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that my video helped you save money. Your support and willingness to share the video mean a lot to me. Cheers to more DIY victories!
This worked perfectly! I didn't have aluminum foil, so i cut a square of aluminum from soda can, sanded both sides and formed it over the spring and housing, made sure it pressed in and out freely. Thanks for saving me time and money!
My washer buttons had the foam square instead of the spring! I replace the foam for the power button with another button that I never use! Washer works like new!!!!!! Thank you for much for your video‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️Saved me sooooo much money!!!! Blessings!
Good idea! I am going to try this. An early comment said the foil trick still worked on the foam button type, but I feel better about this method for some reason.
This worked perfectly for us! Saved $900 with a piece of aluminum foil......wow. Thank you! Also, our "spring" was a bit of foam with a touch sensitive button.....it still worked.
We got the same exact model and only 3 years old and this fixed the issues. Instead of taking the main control panel off I took the back part off put some aluminum foil between the sensor and a little toothpick for added support and works like new
Chalk up another win for the aluminum foil fix! I just ran into one of these yesterday and was excited to try this procedure. I still can't believe it, but it really truly works!! I can't thank you enough for sharing this info with us. This is really an awesome fix, genius solution. Thank you!!!!
Didn't have the exact same 'spring' power button but your video got me 99% there and got it working in the end. Thank you for documenting and sharing this!! $300+ saved
Just did this aluminum foil hack on my LG washer. 2 year old washer. On button stopped working. The "factory reset" by unplugging and holding down the on button for 5 seconds and the other button for 5 seconds did not work. But the aluminum foil hack worked. Thank you so much for this great work around!
I cannot thank you enough. Me and my wife have been struggling with our washer for over a year and it finally got to the point that I had to open it up. Worked like a charm and I am amazed. Thank you so much.
I agree with all of the high praises. Thank you so much for taking your time and explaining it so perfectly. Worked like a charm. If I did nothing productive today, at least I fixed my washer like a boss!
Thank you for your kind words! I truly appreciate your support and I'm glad that my video was able to assist you in fixing your washer. It means a lot to me.
I wish you would have gone into detail and explained why this works, why it broke in the first place, and I'm curious how you became aware of this fix? Thanks!!
Awesome, that worked 100%- thank you!!! Removing the plastic panel at around the 6'20" was challenging but for now, we saved over $200 on ordering a replacement motherboard.
I wish I would have watched this video prior to watching your other video with the disassembly instructions for the board, I did order the board with the spring, and it showed up, same result. Found this video, wrapped it with aluminum foil, and it works just fine. Now I hope that LG will give me a refund for the panel. Thank you for sharing, lifesaver!
Great video. Question. Is the goal of the foil to creat constant contact between the spring and the inside of the touch board, or just to use a thin layer to amplify the signal when my finger hot the power button? Thanks.
Just did that fix to our 5 year-old washer. Worked perfectly! Ours had the foam switch instead of the spring. I fashioned a sort of cap with a small piece of foil just like you did, put it over the foam and reinstalled. Worked on the first try. Not sure how long it's going to work but at least I know for sure where the problem is. Not sure if the foam part only could be replaced, I've seen capacitance switch replacement foams sold online but not for LGs. Must be some sort of conductive carbon foam. Anyway, it's all good for now, thanks for this very good trick!
I can't say enough about how much I appreciate your video. I was very pessimistic about if this would actually work. It worked perfectly! LG should hang their heads in shame putting out a product that is so poorly engineered! My Daughter's washer was only 2 years old when it stopped powering on. Starting looking at all of the videos out there and bought a noise filter ($45) thinking it would be with an easy fix. The Noise Filter was good and now I'm thinking I will need a newer Control board ($190). After watching some more videos I came upon yours. I will never buy another LG product again and will make it my mission to tell everyone I know not to buy LG also. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this video!
This is one of the more common problems I see with LGs. That plastic console piece is usually what needs to be replaced, and they usually run about $50, so not too bad. What I usually do to get the customer by until I can return with the part is drill a hole right where the power button spring goes so you can touch it directly. As long as the boards are ok, it always seems to work. You can even pull on the power button spring (lightly and carefully) to extend it so it makes better contact with the inside of the console. Although not aesthetically pleasing, just drilling a hole so you can touch the spring directly will do the trick and you don't have to buy the part. Yes, you're right, this is an engineering oversight, but if you want to despair LG, I'd focus more on their garbage linear fridge compressors. This is a minor issue with a cheap fix, and lots of options to remedy it if you don't want to spend $50 on the part. Samsung is a hundred times worse. I'm willing to bet that putting a small amount of dielectric grease where the spring touches the console could even solve the issue, but I haven't tried that yet. (The spring doesn't touch the circular part of the console where the power button is. It touches the small little square off to the side that's connected to it. Hope this helps someone.
I'd also like to add, you do not need to disconnect any of the wire connectors on the circuit boards to do this. Just disconnect the power cord from the wall and make sure you aren't putting a lot of stress on the wires. There's enough slack in the wires to do this with them all connected to the board. If you do decide to pull the connectors, make sure you are pressing the retaining clip on the connector down and pull it off with your fingers ON THE PLASTIC. If you pull it by the wires and you pull a wire out from the connector you have a whole other problem that is a much bigger pain in the ass. LG and Samsung love using super thin and cheap wires that damage and pull out of connectors very easily.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this! Very helpful to us. My wife couldn’t push hard enough to power the machine on. This saved me a service call $113 includes trip out and 15 minutes labor plus likely a new board the dispatcher told me. I’m guessing you saved me $400. Took a while to disassemble but went back together quickly. Thanks again!
Thank you for your kind words! I'm thrilled that my video was able to save you some cash and help you fix your machine. It's comments like yours that make creating content worthwhile. Wishing you all the best!
Thank you so much for posting this. The fix worked! With the helpful step by step instructions I was able to repair my two year old washing machine and saved hundreds of dollars 😊
My man. You just saved me some serious money. Same issue, my son and I followed your steps exactly, mission accomplished and we are back in business running a load in the wash. Much appreciated!! -Brent
Thank you for having such a detailed video. I was getting frustrated with my washer not wanting to power on. This trick worked right away and saved me a service charge. Thank you again.
Well, I put a piece of Reynolds on the power button and it works. We'll see how long it lasts. Your YT was the only one that made any sense to me. With the cover off, my wife tapped that little foam button and did 2 loads today. So I figured the repair had to do with finger capacitance, something like that.
Yes! Thank you to this man for saving us from having to get a new washer! Saved us big bucks and enabled this household of 5 adults to get the laundry train moving again!
Unfortunately, I had to change the display board. This is the second time for this machine. However, because of your video, I was able to change this one on my own.
Thank you so much for your post. I was ready to buy an new motherboard, and found this video from Reddit that suggested to search for the Reynolds Wrap fix! I did not need to unwire the harness, but did pull it out so I can get the tin foil wrapped around it.
This was great! No idea how much money you just saved me! Tip to others don’t think that putting the foil on the power button means you should also put it on the start button. I thought maybe that would help as well and it just got the whole machine all confused so I had to take it apart again and removed that extra tinfoil. But it seems to be working now and I’m very thankful. Also super curious why LG hasn’t fixed this known problem
@@onlineappliancetech for some reason, though, now I have to push extra hard on the start button and the different modes, but it seems to be working so that is all I wanted.
Great video. I have also found that using aluminum foil tape actually seems to work even better. You can stick 1-2 layers of the tape to the washer housing where the spring comes in contact with the housing without having to worry about it slipping out of place.
Worked perfectly. Can you explain the theory behind this? It appears the sensor fails over time and by adding the foil, it increases conductivity near the power button. Thanks for your help.
My model is less than 2 years old. I used the silver flex duct tape putting it over the power button then another piece on the little square box behind the washer where the power button is sort of flush with. It worked for about 2 months then stopped. I since then read where someone used aluminum foil. "It Works" take a piece of foil about one inch x 6 inches. and behind the washer where the power button is there is a hole. Slide the foil into the hole until it is touching the power button. Now take another piece of foil and place over the power button. The trick is to just move the foil in the hole a little bit around until it comes on. Sometimes I touch it just right and it comes on right away. Other times it may take me 30 seconds or so, but it truly works. With that being said I will ride it out until the unit stops working and will never ever buy an LG Product again. The person that gave this tip said the glass is thick and the mesh or spring on the button wears out. The tin foil acts as current to get the power button on. Please try it. Don't get frustrated, and you will here that awesome sound of it powering up.
Came across this video after putting a new control board in my machine and still would not power on. Thought. what do we have to lose and it WORKED! Thanks so much!
I have a kit for these buttons that I made. After working in the medical device field and space industry electronics, I was able to come up with this kit.
I have the LG WT7305CW and it had the same problem. I fixed mine in a similar way by scoth taping a small metal washer next to the power button similar to this video.
Thank you thank you! Worked perfectly! Best video on UA-cam. 👍 PS: somewhat impressed by their wire harness clips they come off really easily once u push in on the right spot.
Well, I'm glad my video didn't let you down! I guess I can now add "Best video on UA-cam" to my resume. Just kidding! But seriously, I'm thrilled that it worked perfectly for you.
Unbelievable is right!!!! The power button can't get enough "push" to activate it after less than 4 years. We tried the foil trick to no avail, but I didn't put enough. It just needs the power button to be pushed like the "old days". These soft buttons just don't do it for me. Give me the click buttons any day of the week. I'm drilling out the plastic power button cover to be able to push it manually (I have a rubber piece over the spring so it should work just as well). THANK YOU for figuring this out! You've saved many people thousands of dollars$$$$$$
I did this and it worked for a month or so. Saw a video where a guy cut a hole out to expose the buttons, which also works. However, when I snap the cover on, it doesn’t respond, when I pull the cover off, it works.
Mine did not have the metal spring but a foam switch. The foam switch is a piezo switch which does what the tin foil does but was worn down. I just pulled a foam switch off of one we did not use on the right side and switched them out and it worked. Also a dime worked really well to get the metal top cover piece off. Hope that helps someone else.
Thank you I had what looked like sponge that was compressed ,with a electric tape wrapped around that. I took and pulled some of the sponge material out and used a spring from a ink pen cut it to fit .I pushed the spring down inside the rest of the sponge material i did add the foil it wouldn't stay in place so i added a rubber band to the base. and that is working for now. I will to the test to see if anything shows up.
It should last for quite a bit. I've never had any callbacks, if that helps with your question. But I'm very happy it worked for you! Thanks for your feedback.
Do you have a fix for the control wheel on this LG that is not working. It will spin but sometimes does not advance to a different mode. For example if I'm a normal mode and want to go to delicate I have to push it in or pull it out and keep trying.
Given the issue you're encountering, it appears necessary to replace the display control board due to the symptoms you've described. This board is crucial, especially since it links to the non-functional knob. Unlike the main control board, which is located at the back, the display control board's connection to the knob in the front is where the focus should be for resolving this problem.
I guess mine is a different model because the capacitive on/off button only had a small piece of conductive foam on the top instead of a spring. Adding foil to that didn't fix it. Replacing the foam with a small spring and covering that in foil DID work though!
Score one more for the aluminum foil patch! Worked like a charm - it is really quite shameful, that LG manufactured such a bad design for something so critical to the functioning of the washer. Without this patch, I would need to replace the entire front panel for about $250.00 (plus labor)- and this replacement panel likely has the same defect. Gives me pause about purchasing LG products with these touch panels in the future.
I'm glad the aluminum foil patch worked for you! It's frustrating when manufacturers overlook such critical design flaws. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Holy cow!! Thank you so much for posting this incredible time/money saving DYI fix. Why doesn't LG just fix this problem? Maybe they can't afford tin foil...

Unfortunately, I had to change the display board. This is the second time for this machine. However, because of your video, I was able to change this one on my own.
Nice! Glad my video helped you out! Machines can be such drama queens sometimes, huh?
This worked awesome! Well, at least for now. Thank you for the fix!
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for your post. I was ready to buy an new motherboard, and found this video from Reddit that suggested to search for the Reynolds Wrap fix! I did not need to unwire the harness, but did pull it out so I can get the tin foil wrapped around it.
I'm glad to hear that the Reynolds Wrap fix worked for you! It's amazing how simple solutions can save us from big purchases.
I'm so glad I could help you save some money! It's always great to hear when my videos make a difference for someone.
@@onlineappliancetech for some reason, though, now I have to push extra hard on the start button and the different modes, but it seems to be working so that is all I wanted.
We did the foil on the start button and it WORKED! But now the start and other control buttons aren’t working 🤔. Going to try this again
Thank you so much. This video was very helpful. My washer is working again and I saved a bundle of money.
Excellent!
This fixed my issue. Thanks so much!!!
I'm so glad to hear that it helped! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
Great video. I have also found that using aluminum foil tape actually seems to work even better. You can stick 1-2 layers of the tape to the washer housing where the spring comes in contact with the housing without having to worry about it slipping out of place.
That's a great idea!
This was genius!! It worked like a charm! So grateful to save the money.
Glad it helped!
Worked perfectly. Can you explain the theory behind this? It appears the sensor fails over time and by adding the foil, it increases conductivity near the power button. Thanks for your help.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm happy to hear that the method worked for you. I appreciate your support and I'm always here to help.
THANK YOU!!!!!
You're very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the content!
@@masterlee4370 what model do you have. Would love some helpful pics. Thanks
This is awesome, I just did this and it works like a charm!
I'm glad to hear that it worked for you! It's always great to find something that makes a difference.
Worked like a charm! Thank you. (I only disconnected the top cable. I was able to access everything. Saved a little time.)
I'm glad it worked for you! Happy to help.
Thank you! This did the trick. You saved me!
Glad it helped!
Incredible tutorial. I was able to fix my washer at midnight to make sure my wife has scrubs for the morning! Thank you so much!
Glad it helped!
Wow it actually works. Thank you so much
You're welcome!
Worked for me! Thanks for the detailed help.
Glad it helped!
Came across this video after putting a new control board in my machine and still would not power on. Thought. what do we have to lose and it WORKED! Thanks so much!
Very happy everything worked out for you!
This worked for me, even my repairman was amazed.
I'm glad this method worked for you! It's always satisfying to surprise the professionals.
This is a very helpful video my dude. It fixed my washer. Thank you!
Thank you for watching and I'm really happy I could assist you with fixing your washer!
It's not just a trick, it's a solution!🤗
I have a kit for these buttons that I made. After working in the medical device field and space industry electronics, I was able to come up with this kit.
it worked! Thanks, wasn't sure it would, but it did! thanks!
Thank you for trying it out and sharing your feedback! I'm really glad it worked for you.
Thank you, Let me try it!
Hope you like it!
Fixed it! Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Thank you for saving us $$$ a few hundred dollars! The foil trick worked great. What a major design flaw going on with this washer machine.
Glad I could help!
Amazing 👏 thank you so much
Glad you liked it!
I can indeed confirm that this works! Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Thank you for this video! You saved me $400!
HAPPY TO HEAR
Unbelievable is right!!!! The power button can't get enough "push" to activate it after less than 4 years. We tried the foil trick to no avail, but I didn't put enough. It just needs the power button to be pushed like the "old days". These soft buttons just don't do it for me. Give me the click buttons any day of the week. I'm drilling out the plastic power button cover to be able to push it manually (I have a rubber piece over the spring so it should work just as well). THANK YOU for figuring this out! You've saved many people thousands of dollars$$$$$$
Thank you for sharing your experience and for the kind words!
I did this and it worked for a month or so. Saw a video where a guy cut a hole out to expose the buttons, which also works.
However, when I snap the cover on, it doesn’t respond, when I pull the cover off, it works.
Worked for my machine! 🎉
Well done!
Thank you. It worked for us. Saved us a lot of money.
Glad it helped
This worked amazingly, idk how long it will last but hey thats a future me problem 😂😂.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s always encouraging to know that others are finding success with the tips.
Yoo! You saved me $300 bro! ❤it works on my LG washer
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled that my video was able to save you some cash.
Awesome video! Made my coworkers think I was a genius at work lol.
Thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot to know the video had a positive impact on you.
This worked wonders! Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
This fix works.. Thank you for a brilliant video..LG should be ashamed of themselves....
Glad it helped
where your machine has a spring mine has a felt pad, what would you suggest?
When pressing the plastic “latch” at min 6:21 do you break the “locks” or just press ? , mine are not flexible at all and pressing in breaks them
Thank You!!!
You're welcome!
Mine did not have the metal spring but a foam switch. The foam switch is a piezo switch which does what the tin foil does but was worn down. I just pulled a foam switch off of one we did not use on the right side and switched them out and it worked. Also a dime worked really well to get the metal top cover piece off. Hope that helps someone else.
great work thanks.
Thanks for watching!
I will to the test to see if anything shows up.
worked like a champ!
I'm so glad it worked for you!
Fantastic fix. Take your time with the plastic clips and this guy can save you $400+ in repair bills
I used foil not Reynolds but it didn't work. So I just ended up switching the foam pad with another from the right side and it worked.
Thank you a fix my washer machine it does work 🎉🎉
Happy to help!🙂
Will this fix ( tin foil ) work on the start button as well as the power button?
This worked perfectly
Your video has great details how to do this.
Do you know how long the tin foil will last?
It should last for quite a bit. I've never had any callbacks, if that helps with your question. But I'm very happy it worked for you! Thanks for your feedback.
You win the internet
Thank You!
Appreciate you sharing your fix! It might just help someone else facing a similar issue with their device.
Thank you so very much 🙏
You are so welcome
I'm glad you found the DIY fix helpful!
You just don't know how much fun I'm about to have with the wife tonight because of this fix. 😂😂😂
That's awesome to hear! Have a great time with your wife!
