Hi Mr. Washy, I validated that my washer's lights lit when I spun the drum. Opened the computer controller box and located the power resistor. It showed as a BROWN-BROWN-BROWN-GOLD resistor, which I believe means 110 ohms, measured the resistor, while in circuit, it read 108 ohms. Cut one lead and remeasured and read same resistance of 108. Thus I don't think it is the resistor. Is it possible the board has a cold solder joint that just went bad? (Unit is about 12 years old). Any other thoughts?? Also, checked the noise filter and it reads almost a short, so it is good. My washer's symptoms are slightly different: I push the power button, the unit briefly powers up for a second or two and then powers off. Might be something entirely different.
Great video, and very informative. I have an LG Washer WM2701HV with no power, and there isn't a "motherboard" in the base. Have tried the power down, two button reset with no luck. Now trying other steps to resolve the issue. Any thoughts/feedback relative to this particular model to get it back to life is appreciated. Thanks!
We own two of these washer dryers. The spin the drum test doesn’t make LCD display light up on both. No power up on pressing the on button. Noise filter is ok, as I’m getting 240 volts in and out. Resistor and fuse on main power control board checked out ok for continuity using a fluke meter. Any ideas?
Hey Mr Washy Washy I have an LG WM2301HR model that won’t turn on. The power filter board fuse was blown so I replaced it but it still won’t turn on. A repair guy said the interface control board was bad so I replaced that. Washer still won’t turn on. Do you have an idea what it could be?
Any fixes that might work for the washer portion of an LG WashTower (new)? Or maybe someone else reading this can help? The dryer seems fine, only having trouble with the washer. First load I did, the washer quit mid cycle. I turned off the power, then back on & it started up. 2nd load went fine. Just did 3rd load and the washer quit with water still in the drum. Doesn’t help to turn off (& back on) the power. This unit was purchased at HD back in May and we didn’t install them until August……which I think voids HD’s warranty so we’re on our own.😢
Interesting. Have you been able to determine what is wrong with the resistor? I can count on one hand in my 50 years of electronics that a resistor has actually failed. And normally when they do it is very obvious because of the charred remains. I didn't see anything wrong with the one you clipped out so I am just curious if you were able to diagnose it any further. Was it open? Did it change value? Just curious what the failure actually is. Good video, it will help a lot of people save some money. I have the same problem with a Kenmore and while it is a different control board, it has an elevated and sheathed resistor just like yours. I will pull it out and see what I can find but I am sure hoping this fix applies to my situation as well. Thanks for the video.

I'm living in Brazil and in our region there are no trustful mechanics available,, However we had one who said that the hall sensor is ok (even while the error appears). The wire looks neat no visible defects as I can see,, now the mechanic said it's the pcb board and 2 pumps need to be replaced. Wonder if the machine has 2 pumps, but even if true one of them is working. Do you have a suggestion where to go from here ?? In any case thanks a lot John
@kevinjoyce5076 I have the same problem but when I replaced the resistor it blew again. I have established the resistor is a path for mains ac when the switich at the front of the machine is pressed. When I pressed the button the resistor got very hot very quickly so there is a short somewhere. The service manual is pretty sparse but it would seem the current path is from the resistor through to the switch mode power supply and the heating elements. I suspect I have a heating element with a leakage path but still trying to work it out. I don't have a megger tester. The fault is not on the main pcb board as I have changed that. How did this fix work out for you long term?
Thanks - It was indeed the heating element that caused the resistor to fail. I didn't need a Megger insulation tester the breakdown in the insulation was evident by a multimeter across the heater +ve and the earth. I got reading of around 1.5Mohm. Sure enough I replaced the heating element and now the resistor stays cool and the machine is back to normal. Thank you so much for helping me piece the puzzle together.

Hello I do have a LG F1496AD3 washdryer with mainboard EBR760485 and the Resistor R72 is burnt. This is in the same place as in your video. But I can’t read the colors anymore an my machine looks different though the mainboard looks quite similar to yours. But while reading the comments I notice that there are various values that have been used by LG for this resistor e.g. 220ohms, 110ohms, 4.7 Ohms as you recommend. So what to chose in my case? Is there anyone have the same mainboard EBR760485 with a good OEM resistor to verify the value? Best wishes and thank you for this video. For now I will replace it with 220 ohms 5W.
My power button, wash selections, and pause button do not work when pressed. However every selection on the control panel to the right is lit up. Including child lock and wash delay. Any advice.
Having the same problem… spun the tube and there was a chime but the panel didn’t light up. Will check the resistor with my multimeter but would the door switch actually prevent the whole machine from powering on? Why would they design it that way if so? or why could there be a power bypass that could power the machine onto a diagnostic mode? 🤦🏻♂️.
@@askmrwashywashy …. Yea just confirmed, took a closer look at the board and and there are multiple resistors fried. Ordered a new board. Thanks for the tips
Great vid. Turned mine on last night, heard a slight crack, then no power. The spin test didn't show any lights on the panel. Does that mean a new board is required? The resistor appeared fine on mine, and I couldn’t find a new board anywhere.
Did you find out the problem. In the same boat. Was hoping to find out if the resistor would still be the issue if it didn't turn on when cycling the drum. Thanks
@@Simple_Simian doing some research it might be the noise filter which is before the circuit mother board which explains why none of the options in videos worked for us. It filters electro magnetic interference. I will bypass the filter to determine if that is the issue and reply here for anyone in the future who reads this. The part is $40.
Hi, I got an LG wm2301hs front load washer and have diagnosed that the resistor and fuse burnt out. And upon replacing them both the washer started up for a cycle then turned off and now it won't turn back on. What do you think could be the likely problem as I can only think of checking and replacing the resistor again and checking the noise filter
Hi there. You might wanna check if they are blown again. Something is blowing it out. Might be the drain pump or recirculating pump, door switch , or heating element. Easiest way to check is which part of the cycle it blows up the board. If it starts ok, locks the door and only blows the fuse once it starts heating up water it’s the heater or if its after it starts to recirculate the water it’s the recirculating pump
ok, I checked out the washer again and it seems that the fuse on the noise filter blew, and upon bridging the connection with jumper cables the washer turned on. Do you think it would be fine to repair the noise filter with a wire or solder on a new fuse would be fine?
WM3550HVCA with PF error, spinning the drum would not light up anything. Took the board out anyways and tested the resistor and it was open circuit. Replaced with 4.7 ohm 5w and it blew right away when i plugged in and pressed power. Unfortunately the board is potted so component diagnosis is difficult. Is there another thing i might be missing? Seems a wasteful shame to throw away an entire unit because some small component might be faulty.
Hi not much you can do but buy a new board. Usually if its blowing the resistor straight away it has blown a transistor too . Haven't had much luck replacing those. Sad, your washer is a great big size.
Hey there Mr. Washy! When I plug my dead LG washer in and spin the drum I do not get it to turn on momentarily, but did manage to produce a whiff of smoke from the circuit marked "1252 TOP243YN 0R2*SA" (the asterisk is a number that appears to have a burn mark on it). This is a circuit/transistor that is in what looks like a heatsink. Any idea if this is replaceable and where one can get it? Am I out of luck because of the silicone that LG encases the circuit board in? Thanks!
hi mate. yeah that silicone makes it really hard to fix the Board. That part might be a power management chip. Bosch has them on their washers and they usually blow out.
Mr Washy, I got a blown Power IC/Transistor on a heat sink as he explained......any advice if to proceed with repair as this would require taking out the whole gel from the board to get it out and replace "1348 TOP 246YN"

Hi it should be the same principle. The direct drive motor is what will power the board when you turn it by hand. If still under warranty contact Lg for repair. If not check the power board. Yours should be at the back at the top. Usually if it does not light up when you rotate by hand you might need a new board

My washing machine (LG direct drive) suddenly stopped coming on about a week ago without giving any prior signs. It has been working perfectly for about 5 years now. I have tried spinning the drum like you stated earlier, but it didn’t come on. Is it worth trying to replace the resistor?

Before disassembly it try this: Unplug the power cord from the outlet. Then press and hold for 5 seconds the power button then press and hold for 5 seconds the "Play" button. This will reset your mother board. I had no power at all (no lights) in my LG washer I did this procedure and my washer was working again. Absolute legend mate. Your videos are brilliant
Hi mate good to see ya again
Did you figure yours out? I’m having the same issue. I replace the mother board and it’s still doing the same thing. Can you help?
Every figure this out?
Great video, and very informative. I have an LG Washer WM2701HV with no power, and there isn't a "motherboard" in the base. Have tried the power down, two button reset with no luck. Now trying other steps to resolve the issue. Any thoughts/feedback relative to this particular model to get it back to life is appreciated. Thanks!
Hi there I think yours is at the back on top
We own two of these washer dryers. The spin the drum test doesn’t make LCD display light up on both. No power up on pressing the on button. Noise filter is ok, as I’m getting 240 volts in and out. Resistor and fuse on main power control board checked out ok for continuity using a fluke meter. Any ideas?
Great video! 68c for a washing machine fix 🙏 Appreciate the help mate.
Glad it helped
This video is SO helpful! Now we know what to check out--and how to do it.
I did that years ago, no fix needed it just started working again and still good
You didn’t need to do the soldering ?
Unplug, hold down power button for 10 seconds, hold down start button for 10 seconds. Plug back in.
😊
You're the best, mate. It worked. Thanks for everything.
You're welcome! Glad it worked
This unit was purchased at HD back in May and we didn’t install them until August……which I think voids HD’s warranty so we’re on our own.😢
Thank you for posting this! It solved my issue!
Glad it helped!
Just wondering if this fixed worked for you or if you were able to test the resistor, to get some of your questions answered.
@@Glenn_123 No it dod not. I took it out and measured it and it was not open. I couldn’t determine anything to be defective with it. Due the price of the board and age of the washer I bought a new set.

Question,,
Our machine is like the model on the right side..
Things lite up and sometimes appears the code lack of power and sometimes hall sensor defect..
Machine allows water coming in and also pumps it out,, apart from that it's gone bananas.
I'm living in Brazil and in our region there are no trustful mechanics available,,
However we had one who said that the hall sensor is ok (even while the error appears). The wire looks neat no visible defects as I can see,, now the mechanic said it's the pcb board and 2 pumps need to be replaced.
Wonder if the machine has 2 pumps, but even if true one of them is working.
Do you have a suggestion where to go from here ??
In any case thanks a lot
John

I have the same problem but when I replaced the resistor it blew again.
Hi long term it still works. I’d start by disconnecting things like door lock, water pump, water valve , motor , and heating element

Hello
I do have a LG F1496AD3 washdryer with mainboard EBR760485 and the Resistor R72 is burnt.

@@askmrwashywashy ok thanks I'll check it out
ok, I checked out the washer again and it seems that the fuse on the noise filter blew, and upon bridging the connection with jumper cables the washer turned on. Do you think it would be fine to repair the noise filter with a wire or solder on a new fuse would be fine?

is the fuse replaceable? wondering if that is easy enough to take out and replace.
yes I have replaced it before
WM3550HVCA with PF error, spinning the drum would not light up anything.
Hey Mr Washy, I have a WM3997HWA Front Load Washer/Dryer Combo, Mine failed right at the start of a Wash cycle, so the Drum has water in it, I did Drain it, but Im unable to spin the Drum fast enough to get any leds flash. Have you repaired any of these 2in1s before? Should I try the Same thing seen in this Video?
Hi it should be the same principle. The direct drive motor is what will power the board when you turn it by hand. If still under warranty contact Lg for repair. If not check the power board. Yours should be at the back at the top. Usually if it does not light up when you rotate by hand you might need a new board
