The Slow Rush is the fourth studio album by Australian musical project Tame Impala, released on 14 February 2020. It follows the 2015 album "Currents"and the 2019 singles "Patience" and "Borderline", with the latter serving as the first single from the album. Rooted in psychedelic disco music, the album was positively received by critics and reached the top 10 on many record charts around the world, debuting atop the charts in three countries and as well as on the US Alternative and Rock charts.
At the 2020 ARIA Music Awards, the album won five categories, ARIA Award for Album of the Year, Best Group, Best Rock Album, Engineer of the Year and Producer of the Year (the latter two for work by Parker). The album also received a nomination for Best Alternative Music Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, whilst "Lost In Yesterday" was nominated for Best Rock Song.
In October 2021, the band announced a deluxe box set edition would be released in February 2022, comprising B-sides and remixes of the album. This version features remixes from Four Tet and Blood Orange, among others, and a guest appearance from rapper Lil Yachty.
One More Hour is easily one of Tame Impala's best songs
Kevin is a master musician
Yes!
Eh not really
This is true, in my top 3
@@lookluke4063 Give me your best song by him
I've lost my dad last year and never got around to get over it. We had a sour relationship and I know that he tried his best. This album helped immensely, especially the track "Posthumous Forgiveness", which helped me sort out things in my head. Just watching you two get along well and making funny jokes here and there reminds me of the good times I had with my dad. Thank you so much for doing this. I am eternally grateful.
Truly amazing how music can do that man wow
That’s amazing man
loss is not something you get over it’s something you get through. keep going
Me and my dad have a sour relationship too, we dont even had a small talk since I was born. At least we try our best!
❤
The Slow Rush got me through the pandemic. Every time I hear it, I think of going on two hour-long walks everyday just blasting this album
Used to walk in the woods to this album when it came out and for a solid year. Perfect sunset nature vibes
It's weirdly prophetic. One More Year is like "how to get through the pandemic 101"
@@swans184 I thought the same thing hearing it!!
@@swans184 I had the same thought 😂
same!!
Breathe Deeper used to be one of the songs that would calm me down during an anxiety attack. It's seriously one of the most blissful songs I've ever heard
Same as me. I play it on repeat in the car after a big shift, helps me decompress massively
same! somethng about how i all comes together really helps me out:))
Yeah, wholeheartedly agree. The Lil Yachty version is a banger too.
@@aaminojha Foreshadowing on Yachty's part lol
@@aaminojha nahhh
Tame Impala is one of those bands (solo artist, whatever) that you just need time to understand. When you first listen to currents you are like, wtf am I lost in reverb for eternity ? And then, like Connor said, it just clicks.
The tastiest drums ever, the textures, the massive synths. Parker has such a good recipe and he's the only one that can make the best results with it.
What an artist.
first time listening to "let it happen" I didn't like it. I'm not gonna say that I hated it, but it was close to that (it was my first time hearing a Tame Impala song, even before "the less i know the better"). Now it's on my top 3 songs ever and I never got tired of it all this years.
for me currents hit right away the first time I listened to it, it's rare for me to love an album the first time I listen to it
Shrooms unlocked the magic in currents for me
@@goncaloduarte7188yea let it happen was his first song I ever listened to, I didn’t like it and could barely get through it, but now it’s been my #1 favorite song across all genres
Highly recommend you both listen to Lonerism, easily Tame Impala's most experimental album to date. Not to mention, kevins most personal dive into his lyricism & excellent use of synths/guitars & melodies with perfect drums, perfect psychedelic production. For me it's the best album Tame Impala have ever released and it's the 10 year anniversary right now so seems like the perfect time!
I love it but the production on currents is really next next level
Lonerism is my favourite album too and I totally agree with your description, except that I think he got more personal on Currents and TSR
Lonerism is my favorite album. I've gone back and forth, I was in the middle between the three albums for a while, but it's 100% my favorite, such a cool cohesive vibe.
I was fine with Currents first for modernity and popularity's sake, and I liked the video preface of how he didn't like Slow Rush for a long time, but I really think you should have shown him that last. It's just not nearly as good.
innerspeaker is my fav
Lonerism is so incredibly boring
I’ve probably listened to Posthumous Forgiveness 300 times. It’s an absolute journey Kevin takes you on with that track. The lyrics floor me every time.
listened to it after reading this comment. You were right.
Posthumous Forgiveness is such a strong track, always causes a lump in my throat. Had the chance to see Kevin in NY this year…incredible show
Saw his concert in Austin late last year. being my favorite artist, it was nothing short of unforgettable
i was in nyc too, that show was the best i’ve ever been to
will never forget seeing him at barclays
I saw KP in Nashville and i couldn’t help but get emotional the entire show. It was brilliant. Every single moment of it. What a freaking treasure of a human being ❤ can’t wait to see what he will do next 🤤
One of my favourite songs of all time
man, this album really is the soundtrack of my 21-22 jesus christ, i get shivers in every single song, i mean tame impala as gave us 4 classic, its crazy too me the music he made is insane
So true
same dude same
Haha same. Listened to it on repeat during lockdown and it'll always give me nostalgia for that time.
Ah same
"On Track" has made me cry a couple times because I associate it with certain situations, it's such a powerful and beautiful song.
Yep
Definitely a Covid song for me
so real
i constantly forget how much i love this album
Got to see this live and i cried my eyes out.
Me too bro Posthumous Forgiveness destroyed me hearing it live
Same bro same
Same here One More Hour live I was bawling
I'm a bit late but yeah, saw them live on that Rushium tour with my brother & exchange student and was blown the hell away. Best concert I've ever been to yet
i dont think i could survive on track live.
Dudes Lonerism is a necessity at this point, its the foundation of all his work. Love you guys, youre both on track if youre able to sit next to each other doing this. Peace
This album is painfully underrated compared to Currents. I felt like I’m the only one of my friends who genuinely loves this album
I like it better tbh
@@voidzminer1017fr, I listen to the songs on the slow rush so often
@@ShelsyT since this comment lonerism has become my favorite but slow rush is still second over currents for me it’s so good
I cant stress enough how much these videos mean to me. I live across the country from my dad and always loved listening to music with him. Watching these videos brings me happiness to see a father and son enjoying music with each other. Always look forward to your videos. Posthumous Forgiveness specifically hit me right in the feels since it always makes me think of my father. Seeing you both listen to it together made my night, thank you.
You should do Zooms together and listen to music 🙂
This album is Kevin's most emotional piece in my opinion, and I feel like it is super special to the world of music.
Which Kevin you talking about

@@KarlDelaney99 couldn’t of said it better myself, when I first heard of tame Impala I was hooked instantly
@@doccyb Likewise, I still can't believe he does everything himself. He's so talented
@@KarlDelaney99 I think the original comment was talking about the Dad? Not Kevin Parker. Funny mix up though
@@freybentos2602 I just assumed the dad's name is Kevin. My apologies lol
It’s always surprised me how sooooo many people didn’t enjoy this album on launch.
i was one of them, but i still went back to it a lot funny enough. it’s kinda like a warm blanket and it’s really nice to go back to.
hells yeah
i had a similar experience w/ tsr. it didn’t click the first couple listens. but it hit for me a few weeks after release and was the soundtrack to my quarantine. every time i listen i have this flashback to late february 2020 where i was walking in the park, at sunset, and playing this album in my headphones. it transports me everytime. i love it.
also, you’ve gotta play the single version of borderline to see what he thinks.
I love Tame Impala's Tiny Desk version of Breathe Deeper. Kevin managed to elevate an already awesome song to ungodly level
1000% agree. The tiny desk made all those songs better aside from Patience
That was my first Tame Impala moment!
Recently got into Tame, and this is the only album I haven't listened to yet. LOVE Lonerism. That's been on repeat for a while.
Don’t you DARE watch this video before listening in its entirety. You’ll never forgive yourself.
Lonerism goated
@@tim.noonan I'm not going to! Gonna smoke up and listen with headphones. I always do with Tame.
Oh boy you're in for a treat
For me, Currents is better😍
I ain't afraid to say it, The Slow Rush is Kevin Parker's best work thus far. It's just so much more raw and personal and in the context of the pandemic just hits so much harder and more meaningful. Also it's just so varied, I don't think any other album of his experiments quite as much. He brings in the perfect amount of synthy goodness from Currents but brings back more organic instruments from the earlier albums, but also brings in other cool new sounds. Incredible album from start to finish
Agreed.
i agree 100% with that
that’s a weird way to spell InnerSpeaker but go off
Glad someone said this
@@masonhoover165true but slow rush has songs with deeper meaning in my opinion
Just a boy and a father, what I'd give for another. I would've loved to have had a dad to do this with. Good experience to watch this
You dont know what id give for my dad to sit there and listen and jam and just react to music with me. Shout out to Kevin for being the internet father figure that we all want. And again another great reaction and video, my favourite youtube channel by far !
Thank you RUZI ❤
Same dude! I’m 30 and my dad still never gives my music a chance. Just straight to country radio… 😅
Tomorrow's Dust is so slept on. It was the best song on the album to me.
this!! At first it was probably my least favorite, but it grew on me so much and now it’s my favorite
Agreed!
My fav off the album defff
listen to the time warp version if you get the chance
Please review tame impala’s “InnerSpeaker” album. Would love to see your dads reaction. The albums feel definitely has that 60’s rock vibe to it
My personal favorite 😊
my fav ❤
Crying because it feels amazing to see the emotion of someone listening to this album for the first time; this is one of my comfort albums, the lyrics and production in this is just surreal and magical. 🥹
As someone who sings posthumous forgiveness damn near every day, THANK YOU 😭Been waiting on this since Currents
binged 5 episodes in a row and then yall post out of the blue for an album i love im hooked on these videos
The Slow Rush was a particularly special album for me during 2020/2021. Such a great record to listen back on
This album reflects so well with what everyone was feeling during quarantine and handling the craziness of the world pandemic ❤
absolutely love this album. my favorite from 2020 for sure. Its also a deceptively deep album. First you listen to the fat grooves and basslines and synths and then once you pay attention to the lyrics, it really hits you. The songwriting is just so airtight. One of those albums where you simply cannot appreciate it all on the 1st listen alone, it takes a solid 10-15 before you really get the masterpiece that kevin created.
Hey Kevin and Connor, I've loved your stuff for ages and I've started showing my mum my music in the car and it feels like your connection, and it's really bonding, love from England!
This album also grew on me immensely this year. Glad you all reacted to it.
This got me through the pandemic especially “One More Year” it was an instant hit the first time I listened to it.
I love these videos so much. To see your dad hear tracks that are so dear to my heart for the first time really feels me with a feeling I can’t describe. I love watching you both jam out and hearing your opinions on the tracks
This album really grew on me. It really got me through the toughest time of my life and means so much me to. can’t wait to see’s Kevin’s reaction ❤ keep up the good work !
Same! One More Hour was a deeply personal and meaningful song for me that got me throgh the hardest season of my life
Lost in Yesterday is my favorite from this album, such a banger
I went to his concert on Saturday and it was amazing, it sounded the exact same live and it was a crazy experience. Man is truely incredible
Dude its crazy that you upload this now. I recently listened to this album and I can't get enough!
SOOO happy to see another tame Impala reaction!!! Would love for you guys to do more of the strokes as well 🥺
the SLOW rush definitely requires a long time to slowly understand and process each song as it seems like a lot of people needed that time to enjoy it ti the fullest
I feel like Lost in Yesterday is extremely underrated!! it’s my favorite on the whole album and it has such a great meaning :) it really changed the way I look at life
Dude that's my favorite track on the album. The lyrics hit so good
It’s my favorite tame impala song
I hope y'all know that you're having the conversations we all wish we could have with our fathers. Your videos hit me so hard sometimes in the best possible way. Especially when you talk about the nuances of life and the complexities of relationships. Its the kind of stuff I wish I could have worked out with my father back in the day.
Thank you for always being so authentic and open with your thoughts and feelings. You two are a delight to listen to and it's a blessing that you choose to share these moments with us.
Please never change.
What you described in the beginning was exactly how I felt. It took me 2-3 times listening to it in the background before it suddenly clicked.
Now it's like a drug for me, I can't get enough of it.
Love the album but I can't get over the old version of Borderline, such a perfect track
Tame Impala is just like that: It gets better and better every time you listen. You don’t love it at first, but after you are addicted and I don’t know why!
i’ve been waiting for this. one of my all time favorite albums
ahh love these vids, feels like you cut the deep convos short, totally up for more of that!!
my favorite "tv show" at this time. please do more daft punk & psychedelic rocks
Still the best intro to a concert I've ever seen in person. Having One More Year start playing as the audience is feeling the "effects" of Rushium is so dope.
I’ve been waiting for this since the currents video man thank you guys
Greetings from Brazil! "The Slow Rush" by Tame Impala is one of the best things that came out in 2020. So happy for your impressions!
I just discovered the channel and have watched almost all the videos. Keep doing this great work!
I completely agree with what you said at the beginning of the video. Upon first listen, TSR is definitely not as impactful or hard-hitting as Currents. However, the more and more you listen to it, the more and more you learn about how unbelievably good this album is. I have no idea why this album grew on me as much as it did, but it's just simply amazing.
Super pumped for the reaction to Lonerism, whenever that comes around.
This was my favourite one so far. It's interesting to see the way it resonated with your Dad as a more experienced man. Over time I also came to enjoy TSR more than Currents as the impact of time on your life has more meaning and allows you to resonate with it more.
By far one of my favorite records I’ve ever listened too. Just every track amazes me on Kevin’s creativity.
I’ve commented a few times before on other of your guys video but I’ll say it again…I love seeing your guys’ relationship and I love seeing you guys react to albums that I love myself. Keep doing what you do, and review some more tame impala!
I absolutely love the way this album makes me feel. It’s tied for my favorite tame album with lonerism. Hoping to see a video covering lonerism in the future! Keep up the great videos guys! :)
This album is so fucking good. It got me hooked on Tame Impala and I personally enjoy it more than Currents. I think the whole album flows together so well from front-to-back. All my personal opinion of course.
To this day I still listen to their music. One of my personal favorite artist
I’ve been waiting for this for so long now !!!
Saw Tame Impala live in Amsterdam in August this year. Best performance and show I’ve seen in my life, Kevin is a genius and I’ve been waiting for you guys to react to this for a while. My favourite artist with one of my favourite UA-cam channels, perfect as always from you guys👏🏼❤️
Honestly can’t separate Currents & The Slow Rush, I think they are both as brilliant as each other! Lost in Yesterday definitely my favourite track from this album
When I saw Tame Impala live last year I wasn’t expecting to full on bawl during posthumous forgiveness but boy oh boy, I did.
I love you two - you just make experiencing this album even better
Thanks for this guys! Listening to this album during the peak of covid days was very good to make me go through it in a nice and calm way. Glad you guys enjoyed it
The Slow Rush is really a fantastic album. Never gets old, still bump it to this day.
This album is amazing. Seeing this in concert was Top 3 moments of my 2021
The outro of breathe deeper is one of the most orgasmic i’ve ever heard. Especially hearing it live with the laser show, unforgettable memory.
Finally you listened to this masterpiece :) i’m so excited to see your reactions, i saw him on live this summer and it’s probably the best concert i ever had/will have.
I felt exactly the same about this album! First couple of listens didn't like it, didn't hear it again for a year and then it clicked! Now I can't get enough of it.
Love this album so much.
I haven’t watched yet but I’m SO glad you’ve done this album - really looking forward to it❤️
I’ve been waiting for this for so long!!!
your dad referencing the logical song made me so happy. people dont talk about supertramp enough.
when does he do that exactly?
Kevin has mentioned that Supertramp is an influence, a lot of people don't see it but for me is obvious!
I always thought supertramp was underrated
FR
@@marchingclocks i put 'it might be time' on in the car with my dad and he instantly heard the Supertramp influence, so good
Loved seeing y’all connect with this album it certainly resonates with me trying to take advantage of that present moment. Would love to see you guys react to “Innerspeaker” at some point to get Dad’s opinion of how Kevin’s albums have contrasted over the years!!!
I enjoyed hearing your takes on the songs and the relationships with fathers. I had a fantastic relationship with my dad before he passed away when I was a freshman in high school, and I think your comment about no longer being able to get things out (communicate things to them) once a person is gone is one of the hardest realities to confront as you move past that loss. Well said.
Genuinely happy things have been going well for you Kevin! Keep pushing on! Love the channel
this album and after hours single-handedly got me through quarantine. on track gets me every time man
On Track is so underrated. A go to song for when you feel like your life is falling apart
IVE BEEN WAITING SO EAGERLY FOR THIS YES
posthumous forgiveness is has become my favorite tame impala track. the break in the first half really transcends me to another place. such a beautiful track.
what a spectacular album, really got me through life this past year
PLEASE LISTEN TO THE FIRST TWO ALBUMS KEVIN WOULD LOVE THEM
Omfg u have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this. The first Tame Impala song I heard was borderline and since then I’ve listened to all his albums. Hope u guys enjoy Kevin’s music as much as I do.
Finally the two of you listen to this album! I was waiting for this video to come out since forever guys! Thanks
Posthumous Forgiveness gave me a reflection about my relationship with my dad. He is not passed, we just don't have the best relationship even with him and my brothers. The song just makes me wish I would have that relationship with my dad. I'm in love with the concept that we can have the relationship with our parents. Sharing music, the things you love and sharing just joy with each other. Really love what you guys are doing here. I hope this keeps going on. It'll be a dream of mine to just smoke up with my dad and listen to Tame Impala.
Then I married my wife, I have that feeling fulfilled 😁
Like most of Kevin’s music the lyrics are mostly very deep and he covers it with these upbeat funky bass lines and killer drums. Love it
Great album. Thank you for reviewing it. I was hoping you would do it for a very long time. And it was awesome.
I got to see him in Montreal this year - Kevin said it was the first time they were ever performing On Track it live. The feeling of borderline euphoria while hearing this song brings me back every time I listen to it. It’s tattooed on me now as well - means so much to me! ❤️
Wow what a beautiful album! Tame Impala sometimes reminds me of Empire Of The Sun, another Australian band. You should definitely react to their first album.
On Track and Posthumous forgiveness have become really special tracks for me and I'm sure for many others, but this album overall aside from maybe one or two tracks to me is still very good from Kevin. Love how his sound has changed and hasn't stayed the same and he's evolved over time.
absolutely love this channel man
YESSS IVE BEEN SO ready for this one. This album is so freaking good.
Definitely my favorite tame Impala album!!!!! Make sure to check out Kali Uchis’ Isolation sometime soon!! Damon Albarn and Kevin Parker have both written a couple of songs in the album with her and I’m pretty sure you’ll love it!!
