Oh ill never forget the first time i listened to this album. I was in high school, at lunch my friend was listening to it and she gave me an earphone. i really enjoyed it. That night when i got home i had forgotten my keys and nobody was home so i decided to lay down on a chair in my backyard and listened to the whole thing while waiting for someone to come home. That same night my friend and i bought tickets for their show. I was 15 and it was the first concert i ever went to. I dont think anything is ever gonna top that experience. That album made me fall in love with music.
That sounds like an absolute vibe and a half! I think I found Tame Impala from TikTok comp (I know, I'm a heretic, just toss me into the fire already). The specific thing had a slowed version of the Bassline from Let It Happen and it about knocked my socks off. Found the song, put it on blast, and I'm fairly certain I spent 8 minutes outside my body that night. Such a good album, but Let It Happen will always hold a special place in my heart. Also, Tame Impala is honestly making me consider the idea of learning how to read music n such and learn to play the Bass Guitar (or a Guitar in general), so here's to hoping that goes well lmao Edit: Just realized how recent your comment was, glad to see new people finding this video! It's hilarious
This album was THE breakup album of my 20's. I used to drive around my hometown and listen to this for hours on end. Incredibly soothing and cathartic.
Facts. I first heard this album back in 2016. That was also the first year I got my Challenger. I'd drive around for hours bumping this album, specifically Eventually and New Person, Same Mistakes. At the same time, this was also the year I broke up with my GF. Curents just hit so much harder afterwards.
I was in a happy relationship all throughout the years of Currents, and then absolutely suffering through that traumatic breakup when The Slow Rush came out. It was honestly a yin and yang thing that worked out kind of beautifully, those albums together mean a ton to me.
omg same, broke up with my gf of 3 years, went home, put my headphones on, blasted currents all the way through lying down on my floor looking at the ceiling, cried quite a bit
Kevin Parker has said in interviews how important live recording, especially from drums, is to him. He said you can't get the same feel out of synthesized drums. Honestly, I think I understand him. I used to feel differently, especially knowing you can add swing and stuff to synth drums. But damn. The clear and crisp sound of those drums, and the personality in the playing, it's just unmatchable.
Same with me, but instead of lsd is was shrooms with some of my best buds. A windy day on a mountain with tall green grass. Literally felt like I found heaven.
I never hear anyone talk about Nangs and it’s such a cool little track! The name is based on the Aussie term for whippets and it’s designed to mimic the feeling of doing one. Even the length of track matches up with the short high you get from them. Such a cheeky Easter egg IMO
this makes total sense, never realised this before!! my man has definitely analyzed his past experiences with whippets lol, that droning at the beginning as you’re the highest on your hit and then the ebbing into more ethereal music as the high wears is peeeeerfect. not planning on doing whippets anytime soon but i gotta keep this song in mind for if i ever do find myself in that situation again lol
@@Slims222 Yeah I feel like when you have a "bad trip" it's because you are (unconsciously) struggling with stuff in your life. "Bad trips" takes those things to the forefront so you have to deal with it.
Disciples is a song I don't ever hear anyone talk about but it is just pure ear candy. I'm with y'all in wishing it was longer, but what's there is absolute bliss. I must've put that song on repeat and listened to it 20 times in a row when it first came out.
I've grown to prefer Lonerism a lot more but this is such a great intro to modern Psychedelic-Pop/Rock and other fuzed Psych genres with R&B and Hip-Hop. Definitely a hallmark album in the 2010s.
I think I like InnerSpeaker more than Lonerism. InnerSpeaker is way more 70's psychedelic rock inspired I feel like. My dad made me grow up on stuff like pink floyds Echoes, Animals, Ummagumma and more from other bands. It just fits me more.
Eventually is SO damn good, hard to believe your pops wasn't that impressed with it! We all connect differently to things, so it's understandable, but I'm def a little saddened by it lol

During Nangs your dad was saying how he could hear Frank on this. There is a a guy that mixed Blonde and Currents and its AMAZING. its on youtube. Franks vocals over Currents is flawless.
I saw him live in concert, and he is prob one of the most talented, amazing, hardworking artist I’ve ever listened to! He truly he is a living legend!!
I'm very grateful fot this channel. Great stuff guys, I love Currents, it gets me very inspired. I first listened 6 years ago and I can't get over it. Let it Happen can easily be nominated best Tame Impala song.
Nangs was made about the inhalant drug Nitrous Oxide (NOs, Nangs, Whippets, Cream Chargers) it's a short intense high around the same length as the song. The song was created to make the listener feel what the buildup of a person inhaling a 'nang' feels like and how the intense high sounds and feels. Kevin was spot on with this, and I found it hilarious how you wished it was longer, which is exactly the same idea of a nang addict
This is seriously such an amazing series. I'm close with my father and we both are in love with some of the same music but it is such a great feeling to experience loving music with another person, especially in that type of relationship. You both are awesome. Thanks for these
I really appreciate your thoughtful comments and genuine engagement with each track, it truly felt like I was listening to the album for the first time with good friends. Disciples is a masterpiece, for sure
During a very depressing point in my life I played this album daily for what seemed like 2 years. At some point it dawned on me that I had been listening to it for so long. I can't remember the last time an album grabbed ahold of me so fast and for so long. It took years to shake this album. Slow rush was the only thing that snapped me out of it. I have to believe that Parker did it intentionally. Perhaps he's just so tuned in to the human experience of my generation.
You guys should do an album ranking at the end of the year. It would be super cool to revisit some of the albums you’ve reviewed and see how your thoughts or feelings have evolved on them over time
'Nangs' is so short because it's written specifically to accompany a drug, called nangs in Australia (maybe has different name in US). Nangs is simply a gas that you inhale from a canister after transferring it to a balloon (often bike tyre gas) to replace the oxygen in your brain for about 90secs - 2mins. Clearly very unhealthy and I haven't done it myself, but it's supposedly intensely euphoric and 'spacey', usually making your eyes roll back and your body convulse (but in a nice way). The repeated lyrical phrase "but is there something more than that" represents the feeling you get as the high fades so quickly, and this could maybe be likened in some way to an orgasm (?). Overall you can hear how accurately the song reflects the drug's effects, and how perfectly it accompanies the high for someone using it. Hope this was interesting!
I wanted to listen to this album without the depression, so this seems like a god balance, before i ball out my eyes, i see two friends on the screen talking through it

I live in Victoria, Australia. Tame Impala did a national tour of our country and visited our small city of Geelong. They played in a small bar to no more than 100 people circa 2009 after the release of their first EP and the Sundown Syndrome EP. It’s so cool to see how far they’ve come throughout the last decade! Back then, everyone thought Tame Impala was more of a traditional band. But then after Currents came out, Kev was more open about how it was really primarily him doing the writing, recording and producing.
regarding what kevin said about the less i know the better being kevin parker’s “wow this is a big hit” moment, if i’m not mistaken he tried to give the song away to his friend Mark Ronson but he turned it away because he knew it would be a mistake
I first heard this album a few years ago and last relistened to it just the other day. I still think it's perfect or nearly perfect, one of my favorites of all time. Hey guys, I'm sure you probably won't see this among the swarm of comments you're getting now that you're blowing up, but I just want you to be prepared for when you REALLY blow up, because it's going to happen - and let me tell you why: The relationship you two have is heartwarming and is unlike anything I've seen on other reaction videos. As much as I love this album, and many of the previous albums you've reviewed, the reason I keep coming back is not the music but to revel in the open, natural, beautiful father-son relationship you two have. It's captivating and I'm sure that most people here agree. Keep doing what you're doing!

Same for me about 6 years ago. I’m so hooked on Kevin’s sound that I can tell when he collabs w/other artists
One of the best indie albums of our time. Your dad has great taste. I wish my dad was this open to music that I like 😅. Anyways great vid!

I love the little bat! I remember seeing your video where it came from haha!
Also, Tame Impala is honestly making me consider the idea of learning how to read music n such and learn to play the Bass Guitar (or a Guitar in general), so here's to hoping that goes well lmao
Edit: Just realized how recent your comment was, glad to see new people finding this video! It's hilarious
I love this story!❤

This album was THE breakup album of my 20's. I used to drive around my hometown and listen to this for hours on end. Incredibly soothing and cathartic.
Facts. I first heard this album back in 2016. That was also the first year I got my Challenger. I'd drive around for hours bumping this album, specifically Eventually and New Person, Same Mistakes.
At the same time, this was also the year I broke up with my GF. Curents just hit so much harder afterwards.
literally SAME
same bro a J and yes im changing got me through so much shit
He used a drum machine primarily on currents though. But yeah in other albums yes
the banter in this one was really something

Listened to this album for the very first time while off a tab of lsd. The experience it took me on is impossible to formulate into words.
The dreams of me, to just re-experience the album but with psychedelics

Same with me, but instead of lsd is was shrooms with some of my best buds. A windy day on a mountain with tall green grass. Literally felt like I found heaven.
I never hear anyone talk about Nangs and it’s such a cool little track! The name is based on the Aussie term for whippets and it’s designed to mimic the feeling of doing one. Even the length of track matches up with the short high you get from them. Such a cheeky Easter egg IMO
WOW I never new that 😮 I love that fun fact
this makes total sense, never realised this before!! my man has definitely analyzed his past experiences with whippets lol, that droning at the beginning as you’re the highest on your hit and then the ebbing into more ethereal music as the high wears is peeeeerfect. not planning on doing whippets anytime soon but i gotta keep this song in mind for if i ever do find myself in that situation again lol
Appreciate you guys 🙏

Disciples is a song I don't ever hear anyone talk about but it is just pure ear candy. I'm with y'all in wishing it was longer, but what's there is absolute bliss. I must've put that song on repeat and listened to it 20 times in a row when it first came out.
same tbh
Disciples is such a sweet short song, it's a perfect length imo
Yes yes yes
Super super underrated. And you’re right, it’s short length makes it very endearing and leaves you wanting more, but it still feels complete!
the part with the switch cutting the tape hiss is such a small detail but its so cool
Lonerism came out on my birthday 😈
Lonerism really does get to me

Eventually is SO damn good, hard to believe your pops wasn't that impressed with it! We all connect differently to things, so it's understandable, but I'm def a little saddened by it lol

I like that they brought up the fact that there's a lot of breakup dialogue in this album because it came out within a month of my first major breakup...it was something that was so key in putting my thoughts to words and bringing me peace, letting go of the other person and feeling like waiting for them would be a mistake... kudos to this album for helping all the heartbreaks like mine!

Hopefully some day you can do some LCD SOUNDSYSTEM - this is happening or sound of silver, I think your dad would love these albums

"Eventually" is one of Kevin's best tracks ever. I hope his opinion has changed.
This album healed me in so many occasions
Best music ever. Lifts you up and gets your day going. Kevin is a genius.
Can confirm - I have seen Tame Impala outside twice while the sun was setting. Everyone was totally grooving but sadly there was no neon paint!
Wonder if this is what whipits/ inhaling nitrous gas is in the US
In the US they just refer to it as nozzing. Like “yo, you nozzing it?” They use a NOS (nitrous oxide) Tank.
@@DroppingCents yep that's the one! I forgot what it was called in other places
@@f.l2142 yeh nangs are the same as whipits in the US. The song sounds like when you do a nang with the repetitiveness and wob wob wob noise.

7:45 “yea I get that feeling too” lol I love when you can connect on something so specific and weird like that over music

But then after Currents came out, Kev was more open about how it was really primarily him doing the writing, recording and producing.
regarding what kevin said about the less i know the better being kevin parker’s “wow this is a big hit” moment, if i’m not mistaken he tried to give the song away to his friend Mark Ronson but he turned it away because he knew it would be a mistake

wow respect to mark ronson
Two gigachads apparently
Actually I think he had already given it to Mark Ronson for his uptown funk special album but then he ended up asking for it back
actually, kevin's wife was the one who told him not to do it, kevin said it on a podcast or in an interview, I don't remember
I first heard this album a few years ago and last relistened to it just the other day. I still think it's perfect or nearly perfect, one of my favorites of all time. Hey guys, I'm sure you probably won't see this among the swarm of comments you're getting now that you're blowing up, but I just want you to be prepared for when you REALLY blow up, because it's going to happen - and let me tell you why:
The relationship you two have is heartwarming and is unlike anything I've seen on other reaction videos. As much as I love this album, and many of the previous albums you've reviewed, the reason I keep coming back is not the music but to revel in the open, natural, beautiful father-son relationship you two have. It's captivating and I'm sure that most people here agree. Keep doing what you're doing!
