  • In our newest koi discussions series, we introduce a beautiful Yamabuki Ogon on a brand new set, next to Shawn McHenry's showcase pond at Mystic Koi and Water Gardens in Upland, Ca. We learn new Japanese words used to describe color, texture, markings, flowers, size and age of these beautiful fish. Strength, perseverance, money, and the chrysanthemum flower are all highly regarded in Japanese culture and all displayed in this wonderful fish. Learn why the Yamabuki Ogon represents so much more than just a fish in this koi discussion tutorial video.

    wait, i was sold a Ogon for about 4 pounds. it was only like 2 and a half inches at the time but now it's almost 11 inches long. the seller had them listed as a morph of carp and not a Koi.

    if i cleaned out my pond thoroughly last year do i have to this year? My fish hate it.

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  9 років тому

      +david durbin Not necessarily. It really depends on your filtration system, weekly maintenance routine, water treatments, fish population and so much more. Is the pond overstocked with fish? Does the water quality test okay? Are you experiencing unusually aggressive algae blooms, etc?

    • @ThePondDigger

      +MegaLucarioGaming That is a specialty koi tub. It's great right? Google Mystic Koi in Upland, call them and ask for Shawn. I'm sure he can give you the information you are looking for.

    Beautiful fish. But I notice there is a slight bulge in the lower half of the fish's body. Is there a problem with the fish? If you look careful from the top, the fish has a bulge on its side.

    • @ThePondDigger

      +Michael Lou Yes, Shawn mentioned it in the video. He is unsure if the koi was taking on eggs or what. I should give him a call for an update.
