Old man here: I remember when I used to sell 500w RMS subs in the 1990's and they were "monsters" ! I liked how this sub handled itself and I bet it would be great for anyone who is only needing to handle 500-700 watts. On the flip side, I think Planet Audio and a few other brands out there are really cheap and you could get two woofers for $140 and throw 1000 watts at them. It's all up to the user.
I have 2 of these 10s, 2.5^3 32hz box and they actually sound absolutely incredible and get very low. I am feeding them with an APHD-30001-F2 3k amp and they take it all day. I personally recommend these subs to anyone.
What’s your Power supply. You make have a 3k amp but unless you have the electrical to allow the amp to make its rms power your probably only getting 1000 watts or so from the amp witch is why your subs are still going. You just saw him kill the sub in a day on a lil over 1000 watts. So it’s nice that you like these subs but talking about the size of your amp without telling what your power supply consists of is only telling half the story. And if your on stock alternator and battery your taxing the heck out of your electrical and something will give out eventuality. Personally I spent 2200$ on my 250 amp alternator and 2 XSpower D7500’s
@@workingclassperson2124 if you call 1700watt plus a Lil over 1000 go ahead. He reached a Lil over 1900 watts playing low hz when it finally started smoking. The sub is 1200 watt max, 600 rms. Playing 1200 rms at 40hz is okay for a few seconds rather than 1200 rms at 20hz on a sub. Not saying it won't play 20 hz but if I was gonna play 20hz I wouldn't be pushing damn near 2k at a 600 watt rms sub. That's just asking for it to blow🤦
We have subs here in South Africa 🇿🇦 for about 210 American dollars around 3500-4000 w RMS Edit: Thats only SA brands tho not the things like the pioneer or the scar or anything like that. Those are still very expensive for little RMS
Incriminator audio's budget sub is about the same price and similar rating. Would be interesting to see how it performs under the same conditions. Its definitely at the upper levels of quality in that price range.
You guys in the US need to be thankful... here in Australia the cost just to SHIP a Skar or American Bass sub over here is the same as the price of one of these off the shelf! But enough of my whinging - another great vid man, thank you.
It's aluminum former, with copper wire coil. And the black coating doesn't do anything for the thermal capability of the coil, is all a sales gimmick. Just being honest.
This is a perfect example of a company who doesn't know what the hell they want to do they release so many things and do such short runs of stuff if you happen to blow a sub or a speaker you can about be guaranteed by the time you try to replace it they've already changed that model to something different.

This guys criteria for great subs is just power handling and SPL. He never mentions low frequency dig or frequency range. I’d rather have a sub that plays 30Hz-80hz at 136-140db flat. Than a sub that hits 142 db at 45Hz with 3000 watts but the frequency response looks like a camel back across the spectrum.
I love my DS18 12" 2D. 2000RMS tho. And I can pound it frozen in -50C/-62F here in Northern Saskatchewan Canada with no issues. Your expensive stuff that you usually display would probably explode lol DS18 is really decent stuff for the buck. Thanks for the video!
Imma disagree with that statement. Thiers a reason why some of those high end subs are expensive. For example ill put a nsv4 against any of ds18's line up. In every category.
sub what handles it's rms power without problem + handles double of it's rms power with power peaks 4x the rms power for minutes + both tests in a relatively non-matching box + souubds like this = good sub in my opinion
I agree. I ran mine on a Smart 3 at 1 ohm for months no issues at all was giving the pair over raited daily no failures and i think this is just a bad representation of the woofer. Wrong box wrong tuning and port area. Think things would have been different in a correct box. Im not a ds18 guy by any means but i used them to show them off for a local shop in my civic and did a 148.8 with the pair.
@@cliffordmcgraw8740 yeah...the representation is divisive...i mean, how you look at it: if it sounds like this in a mismatching box + takes 2x it's rated rms power for minutes, then it is really good sub...but on the other hand a representation like this not showes what could do this sub in a box what is optimised for it...i did a similar thing with my gladen rs-x 6.5, just even in the most possible extreme way: i attached it to my logitech z623 sub's box with a flat cord - basket outside, the wire i pull out from the port - obivously the box and the amp is totally mismatching for that gladen sub - it sounded just average in my room with hearable port noise - worse like the original driver, but sounded suprisingly good in car without port noise (bass outperformed the port noise) - even somewhat better like the original driver...and then of course i made a proper box optimised for it (vids on my channel)
140s in that size cabin really isn't bad for lightweight lil sub like that. I've never been super impressed with DS18 though yrs ago I did like they're fuse blocks. They were Good looking but I've been using smd n illcustomz since happily. Ds18 def has their place in the world though

I've got 2 12 in Skar EVL's that I absolutely love. My RMS is 1250 and I push a lot of DJ Russticals music through both of them. I'm also using a Hifonics class D monoblock Zeus amp that is 2400 Watts with four gauge wiring. Going to upgrade to a big 3 setup and 0 gauge very soon.
I got two 15s that are evls and I’m pushing 3200watts to them with a audio legion 5k and they take a lot of abuse Waiting to blow them so I can upgrade to two 15 DS18 EXLs those thing are BEASTS
I will say that box is not specs but I had just got one and built a box to specs and it sound great especially when your not running 4x the rated power 😂😂 love your videos man always will 🤞🏼
I feel like it would've done much better if it was put in a bigger box and actually broken in properly, you can tell it was really stiff and as an owner of a DS18 sub i can tell you they tend to be a lot stiffer when new then most others from what I've seen 😂

I ran a pair of these on a smart 3 wired at 1 ohm daily for months and didn't have an issue. Tuning was 36htz and box was 3.5 for the pair with 50sq in of port and there still playing to this day. I was giving them double rated power at times and I did not have a problem.
What’s your power supply if your on stock power supply your not getting anywhere near 3k watts not even 1500. I love that people will talk about there “big” amps and never mention there power supply. Cause it’s only what makes your amp make power can’t make 3k on a 90 amp alternator with one Duralast battery for example and 0 gauge is only good for maybe 2200 watts so double them up ALONG with the ground wires. Free advice that will actually help.

I love to know what truly is the best 300-400 sub out here? Sundown Es? Comp Rs? Or even the infinity kappa’s it doesn’t matter if it’s 8 inch or 10 inch. I’d rather push more con area with two subs with a moderate RMS instead of one sub with a higher RMS.

American bass 15s are going for 150 nowadays... 1000w rms 2000w peak ive seen em take up to 3500 in bursts

I'm currently looking at getting back into audio and looking at ds18s but going with their budget subs DS18 DVC SLC-MD12.4D on a 1 ohm stable amp and this vid has given me some confidence in their equipment for a bang for buck, I'm enjoying you videos lad keep it up you have a nice set up and blowing sub for a living is a cool way to go 😎😎🤣🤣 hat's off to you bud, I am thinking of giving it ago at making a video but don't have a clue to start out 😅😅
Last week I picked up a used taramps md8k for 250$. Excited to get a real woofer and see what happens (currently running a single dual 4ohm XFL 12)

They are! Had mine for the past year and they still are stiff and slamming! Very good and cheap banging sub!
You should get a rockford fosgate t3 19 and see if you can blow it
Not worth it. That fosgate is pricey and an HCCA will out perform it well any honest 4inch 3k rms sub will.

For the price of that sub, I would rather go with an American Bass Titan. At least you'll have a 3" coil and a bigger motor.

You should run one of DS18s EXL-X8s through the paces. I have 2 of them wired at 2 ohm fed by a 1600 watt amp in a single cab ranger. I’m curious to see how much they can handle

I have like 5 of those voltmeters and stickers. Wish d4S would let us choose NO to them. This sub looks pretty amazing. I'm an avatar fan myself. Have the D1 12s currently, on a jp63. Waiting for another sale to buy the D2s. Hopefully I'll eventually reach their RMS. Lol

Copper coils are always better. Copper heats slower cools faster then aluminum. Of course this is why we use ofc power wires…
Thats why you pay good for your subs. Ill always run sundown subs but highs DS18 are a good budget speaker.
Brands are just brands most are made in China or made with China parts assembled in the USA. Go custom made save some money and get better performance

@@ParkerTheBasshead yes sir I agree %100. I am currently rocking 1 evl 15 pushing over 2k watts to it clean and it takes every bit of it. Honestly I feel like it could handle more. But my upgrades are in the mail so soon I will let another basshead have it.
This sub x2 in a 4 cubic ft box tuned to 31 hz and they move a decent amount of air. And it’s in a Nissan rogue 🤣 Love these things.

I love to know what truly is the best 300-400 sub out here? Sundown Es? Comp Rs? Or even the infinity kappa’s it doesn’t matter if it’s 8 inch or 10 inch. I’d rather push more con area with two subs with a moderate RMS instead of one sub with a higher RMS.
