The real reason Wolfie replaced Mike is EVH addiction(s). Val said at the time Wolf was allowed to go on the road because everyone knew EVH wouldn't be doing drugs in front of his 16 year old kid. In essence. The kid was there to babysit the parent. Sad...No clue how Wolf turned out so grounded.
How many ways did they do Mike dirty? Can they be counted? Great musicians but the brothers are the hateful ones and the fans of this band aren’t having it. Kid can play but damn
The one thing that wasn’t mentioned, … By the time Sammy left/was fired, Mikey was caught in the lurch. The band was waiting for Ed to get his health straightened out AND get clean. (Didn’t last) With ED having the studio at his home, he could do as he pleases. One of those things was playing the bass parts to any new songs he would write. On VH3, Mikey said he only played on 3 songs. Ed played all the rest. Shortly after that tour, Mikey started touring with Sammy. By the time the 2004 tour came about, Ed decided to cut Mikey off from any royalties and pay him a salary instead of a 1/4 cut of the profits. That was a kick in the groin! Mikey said he took the deal only for the fans. After that, Sammy & Mikey formed another group. Some say Ed didn’t like Mikey using the VH name to help promote his brand of hot sauce. Same with Sammy’s tequila brand. But I tend to believe that Ed & Alex took the band name personally and possessively. When it comes down to it, Alex & Ed are/were common men with average intelligence that gave them a rudimentary but idiotic business sense. Ed was far more talented than most musicians and had he not been hooked on cocaine and booze, he would probably have had a better experience in his band social skills.
Only a moron would believe lying Captain Candyass . The lying hypocrite never told you how much Konami paid him for using his Can't Drive 55 song while he crucified the Halen Bros for selling songs for commercials
I guess no one remembers when Mike’s picture on the cover of the first album was replaced (briefly) with one of Wolfgang. Yeah, no bad blood there at all.
I don't believe that I've ever read or heard anyone say that they hate Wolfgang - and I hope that I never do - but it's been pretty well established that EVH had been forcing MA to the sidelines for quite some time. Billy Sheehan eventually revealed that EVH tried to recruit him to take MA's place, and it's well known how little EVH let him contribute to VHIII. If EVH wanted an all-Van Halen lineup, so be it; it was his name on the poster. For whatever my opinion is worth, they'd have been better off giving MA a chance on lead vocals; Roth's abilities had deteriorated far too much by then.
Wolfgang is a talented guy and he’s made some great music. But it was a pretty dick move by Eddie to crap on Michael repeatedly. I never accepted Wolfgang’s place in the band. It would’ve been different had they not treated Michael so badly prior. That being said, Wolfgang is a great musician and he’s definitely cut his own path. I wish him the best.
This vague explanation must be a cover-up of how Eddie V H simply employed nepotism, and screwed over an important member of this band, to everyone else's detriment.
It is the biggest heartbreak for me on two fronts… I love Wolfie….. but the way they went after Michael Anthony will never ever sit well with me. The most standup thing Wolfie could do is give back royalty rights and some back pay to Michael Anthony despite Alex….. it is the same other thing to do to preserve a legacy member for all his years serving EVH well. Michaels vocals alone make me listen to that era with great pride. I have all but said “F” EVH over this act toward Michael
@richardeyler Eddie Van Halen wanted his son in the band, so that was that. Wolfgang Van Halen did not earn his prominence in the rock world: he inherited it.
Wow! I've never heard it phrased that way. Eddie's "struggles with SOBRIETY" huh? I've heard "struggle with alcohol" or "battling alcoholism" etc but never like that. Must be damn bad when sobriety itself is the enemy.
Nobody should blame Wolfgang for taking the spot. It was all Eddie. The Van Halens and Roth may not have told Mike to jump off, but they did absolutely screw him out of royalties.
Why would Wolfgang want to be around Ed when he was in that condition? Most people don’t want a front row seat to watch a loved one self destruct! Hell...maybe wolf could have used leverage and told his old man that he wouldn’t join him until he got sober! Something doesn’t make sense, but then again a kid is involved and they shouldn’t be subjected to emotional and adult type situations, they aren’t equipped to handle!
Bullshit. Eddie changed the album cover artwork replacing Micheal Anthony with Wolfie. There was a huge backlash from fans until they changed it back. Trying to re-write history was such a low down dick move by Eddie. The most believable answer I've heard is that the Van Halen brothers were upset Michael Anthony toured with Sammy Hagar after they parted ways. Eddie thought it was disloyal to the point that Sammy had to refuse the 2004 reunion tour if they didn't allow Michael Anthony to participate.
Cus he wanted to play with his son. Just like any father would.not hard to figure out plus they were always looking to drop Mike all the way back in 80s offered job to Billy Shehen
@@Wargasm54 For every talented band or musician that made it big there are 10 that just never got the right break or emerged at the wrong time. Wolfgang is very talented, but he also sells a lot of records because of his last name, and may bever have gotten the opportunity without it.
It’s my understanding that Ed’s poor health was the reason wolf played with him, had he not played Van Halen was done with, so because of wolf we got a few years of classic Eddie otherwise we wouldn’t have had a few last tours

It seemed Wolfgang needed to be w/his father to keep him out of trouble+lookout for Eddie. VH never the same w/out Mike!!
Eddie screwed Michael!! End of story!!! Wolfie in VH was pretty dam low. I just can't believe Eddie didn't realize how bad that looked!!!!!

If the answer is anything but because he's Eddie's son it's not true.
