- Mackenzie Crook chats with Gold Derby editor Paul Sheehan about bringing his BAFTA-winning show 'Detectorists' to the Emmys. Besides writing and directing each of the 19 episodes, he stars as Andy, a would-be archaeologist, who spends his free time with his pal Lance (Toby Jones) in search of buried treasure.

We so very much love the detectorists! We hope and pray McKenzie might consider a season 4. Please, please, please!
Mackenzie Crook’s Detectorists is the sweetest, warmest, funniest tv series. He masquerades as a regular guy but Mackenzie is a creative genius in many art forms (even illustration).
best series ever, loved, loved, loved it and would love to see one more season! Mackenzie - you're a genius and gifted story teller. pretty please???
This aired in the NYC market via PBS with the final episode airing last weekend. I loved the show - the writing, the acting, the relationships between the characters. The ensemble is terrific and the theme song made me tear up the first time I heard it. I do wish there would be more; I'll miss it very much.
Superb interview..answered my many questions about what seems to me , a phenomenon of successful writing magic, casting, story, delivery/directing and "feel" of the production. It restored my faith in acceptable watching experience, as I'd grown weary of TV, especially here in the US.
I’m in Washington DC and I adore Detectorists. It’s the best show I’ve seen. My grown son in Austin TX loves it, too. Check out the Detectorists fan page on Facebook. Mackenzie Crook is the BEST.
Love Detectorists, and Britannia, this guy is an amazing actor in everything he's been in, be it comedy or drama. I still fall asleep every night watching my Detectorists DVDs, I practically know every scene/episode word for word and yet it still doesn't get old, and I don't think it ever will. It's a masterpiece in every since! I really wish the show would've continued on.. But yet im excited to see what Mr. Crook will have in stored for us in the future!
I rediscovered Mackenzie Crook watching him as the Veran in Britannia. That led me to Detectorists. I am blown away by his genius.
Brilliant series.
I talk Detectorists to all my viewers and many have grown to love it. I would absolutely love to have him come to America to detect with us. Please let him know if possible. Thanks for sharing this
Wow! What a wonderful idea! I’d imagine he’d love that.
Love the show Detectorists, I've re-watched it numerous times. I really wish there was a forth season maybe with the focus being on the other cast members. The sound could have been much better for this video btw
I very much doubt there'll be a fourth series, as they call them in the UK. Even if there is, the focus would not be on the supporting players, because then it wouldn't be Detectorists. If you created a spin-off anchored by Russell, say, what could it be? If it's Russell, he'd have to move away and lose the detector for it to be a significant deviation from its 'parent' show. And where's the enjoyment in that?
@@NxDoyle ya I wouldnt watch it probably, I watched it FOR mackenzie. he is the whole reason, and I quite like toby jones as well. I think without them, it just wouldn't be the same. they are the glue that makes this series special, and especially mackenzie considering everything hes done and it was his idea
@@0bstinacy what is the Christmas series Detectorist Called ??
@@georginabartlett8778 huh its not a christmas series, detectorists is about metal detector hobbyists
All ( smart ) Americans should watch and enjoy this show
Can anyone tell me why the Acorn released DVD is far inferior in picture quality to the version seen on Netflix? A large part of the joy in watching Detectorists is seeing the English countryside and towns in digital cinema quality ie SHARP! The Acorn DVDs look like the show was filmed on 16mm film. I'm sure MC would not be happy with this! We certainly are not.
I’m sad there will be no more episodes! This was the best show! I’ve told all my friends about it. Maybe he’ll do a Christmas show, showing them enjoying their riches from the coins.
He's said he wants to "get the band back together" www.google.com/search?q=mackenzie+crook+detectorists&client=ms-android-verizon&biw=360&bih=560&tbm=nws&sxsrf=ALeKk02Wfi2I9lRxz7mQpukoscVOJMCwXQ%3A1622240207499&ei=z2uxYMDyHdTS-wTupqL4Ag&oq=MacKenzie+crook+det&gs_lcp=Cg9tb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXNlcnAQARgAMgIIADICCAAyAggAMgIIADIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB4yBggAEBYQHjIGCAAQFhAeOgUIABCxAzoGCAAQBxAeOgQIABBDUKogWLwpYNgvaABwAHgAgAHmA4gB3QqSAQkwLjEuMi4xLjGYAQCgAQGqARltb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1zZXJwLW1vZGVzwAEB&sclient=mobile-gws-serp
A Christmas show with Andy, Becky and their little son in that storybook cottage would be so lovely.
Deeply enjoyed Detectorists, respect the decision to leave it alone and move on. Looking forward to whatever M. Crook comes up with next.
Seen every episode multiple times
Love the show ,wish it was still goin
Word is he wants to "get the band back together,.
Sad just three. But will be keeping eye on his work. He is fantastic.
I agree, and I'm from Spain so worldwide influence ;)
Favourite show, a future classic
American: Perhaps my favorite show ever! My (American) friends like me better for having introduced it. :)
Love this show, just wish he made another season or 2
Dude, your audio. Blown out to fuckery.
Absolutely adore this show however I’m glad there’s only 3 series. How many shows have we seen destroyed by stretching it out. Also the office only had 2 seasons. Beautiful show, glad we can leave lance and Andy to potter around the fields of essex
I see where McKenzie found a killer gold coin in real life after the show ended. I wonder what ever happened to it & has he been digging since.
What is the Xmas episode called?
2015 Christmas Special - but if you buy the series, including it, it's actually episode 7 of Season 2 and needs to be watched in that order.
why is he bald sitting in half of an egg?
I thought the egghead in an egg chair was an interesting seating choice, too!
A russian egg
Aww that stinks, really wish made another series, go on then...lol
