CONGRATS TO THE BBC TOO, THIS SHOW IS SO OFF LINE WITH CURRENT, HIT 'EM OVER THE HEAD' FOR A LAUGH'S, HUMOUR. IT WAS LIKE BEING OUT IN THE QUIET COUNTRYSIDE WITH THEM. SUBTLE MICKEY-TAKE HUMOUR ,AND BELIEVABLE CHARACTER'S. THE KIND YOU WOULD EXPECT TO SEE INVOLVED WITH THIS GROWING HOBBY.
I just loved The Detectorists, and have resorted to watching it repeated times, since there is nothing quite like it on TV, that is so sweet and uplifting.
It’s so underrated. I’m always telling people to watch it but most of them look at me like I’m crazy. I guess I don’t sell it very well. It’s like a warm jumper on a Sunday afternoon, and the way the whole thing ends is perfect.
I can't believe I've only just come across this show. Binge watched the whole series over Christmas. I've never been so sad for a series to end, utter perfection, brilliant cast, writing, everything ❤
I love how nervous he is during his speech, clearly shaking. Mackenzie is a nice, down to earth bloke who wrote a series which, let's be honest, features a character (Andy) that has a large chunk of him in his DNA - a bloke who is most at ease when he's in the middle of a field with an XP Deus in his hand, or in a man cave at the bottom of the garden, making things. A man who cares about animals and nature. Mackenzie has a special kind of brilliance about him that means only he could have written that show and made it a classic.
Don't know why I love this show. Probably the dry humor with the great punchline jokes. Was just skimming Netflix and click on this just to see what it was. Glad I did!
@@dannyboywhaa3146 netflix is just a streaming service to make it more accessible to everyone. what kind of nonsense are you spouting? netflix also has some great originals, check out the hill house haunting. really well written, acted and masterfully shot.
ya I saw how shaky he is. am like wow! even someone as accomplished as him where he has to put himself out there 24/7 still gets hella nervous when all eyes on him outside of work. hes awesome I hope he does more shows or movies where he writes and directs. about to give britannia a try since hes also in it :D
What a beautiful, gentle, perfectly written series. My household don't get any of the jokes..."hear about old Bob Cromer? Dead!"...has me in stitches every time.
My favorite Series ever....A lovely English lady introduced this American guy to this and other English shows. American TV could learn something here. Such witty and rich dialogue. Every line and scene is something to be savored. I catch something subtle and new each time I watch this series. It is full of funny, yet sobering moments, and is alive with the reality of human frailties, enduring hope and overcoming love. "Canned laughter" Is refreshingly absent from this comedy and thus, the viewer can enjoy the cleverness of Mackenzie's wit, freely. The cast was also perfect for this lovely story. This tale is a "treasure"..."waiting for you". Congratulations, and thank you, Mackenzie....Cheers!
Can I add that this is one of my very favorite shows, EVER. I absolutely love everything about it, I think it is perfection personification, an expression of the foibles of humanity, a work of genius that isn't being screamed at you. I've always wanted to go detecting, but never have. When I first saw there was a show called The Detectorists, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine how absolutely lovely it could be. I'm an American woman by the way. Congrats Mackenzie, you deserve this recognition and PLEASE bestow upon us mere humans a fourth season!
Bit late I know, but I've just watched the last episode of season 3 and can say that Detectorists was far more than my favourite comedy in a long while. Anyway, great speech
Bob Dunn I only finished series 3 a few weeks ago, just such a classically British and warm concept - dull on the outside, intrinsically brilliant once you let it in.
I’m late to the party and just found this show on Prime Video. Honestly, I can’t stop watching it. I love everything from writing, to the acting to the camera work and I’ve fallen in love with the English countryside. I even like those two…yes, you know…The rogues. Thank you McKenzie Crook.
particularly poignant that Jessica Stirling was able to act with her real mother Dianna Rigg. have watched this show several times, just ran across it on Amazon and will probably watch again.
OMG. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show. Its a slow burn - the more i watch it the more i love it. MacKenzie is brilliant. It might seem odd but i feel such joy and delight when i watch it. It is perfect.
@@johnbailey8012 😄 I'm an old guy and these wonderful, deeply felt TV series are very rare. My last? 'Northern Exposure' 😃 Mind you, we don't watch much TV 🤣 KTF🙏
Am currently binging this series now, I can’t believe this gem has been hidden unearthed all this time from me. My partner mentioned it years ago and I think I had my head in a book/books at the time so didn’t pay attention. Glad to have discovered it during Covid. It is a perfect foil of rural Britain, our heritage, our rural culture and our eccentricities. Well done 🥇
He’s right. It’s that characters that make the show and the acting was excellent. Especially the amazing Toby Jones. The friendship and back stories between those two was amazing.
Beautiful cinematography, lovable characters and very entertaining. It was very soothing to watch. I could binge watch this show over and over and never tire of it. Simply, Brilliant!
In a benign, boring and predictable world this man lifted my spirits immeasurably with that little gem of a show. So soothing, relaxing, contemplative, reassuring... I could just go on and on...
From what I can make out he’s such a down to earth and normal guy, nothing fake or put on by him whatsoever. Detectorists was an absolutely brilliant series, thanks to his excellent writing, acting and not to mention of course all the other actors and actress’ who made the series what it was. Well done to all involved.
Such a wonderful series! I was dreading the final episode knowing I’d miss all the characters SO much! That’s good writing when the characters feel like friends and family and you don’t want them to go away ! Watched the final episode last night. Now I’ll miss Lance, Andy, Becky, Shiela, Maggie, Kate, Tony, Hugh, Russ, the Dirt Sharks ……etc….. !!
Don’t know much about Mackenzie Crook but he seems like a genuine down to earth guy and well deserving all the respect and awards that would come his way… that show is one of the best things on tv not to mention he’s in other shows that are good also.
I've watched three seasons..Christmas special and now onto the 2022 long length special 🎉 absolutely fantastic. Also cameo from Johnny Flynn singing the theme song was lovely. Toby and Mckenzie are superb 👌
the guy is pure genius. from Gareth in the office to Pirates of the Caribbean and now this is a true show of his natural talent. Please do another series Mr Crook !!!!!!
My Favourite comedy series...no favourite series.....sorry, favourite program of all time. Just perfect. Thank you Mackenzie Crook and the simply superb cast.
I binge watched this show yesterday, loved it. mackenzie is the best, I tried it out cause he was heavily involved and I ended liking it WAY more than expected. not the type a show I typically watch but it kept me glued, I wish there was more. hope he writes and directs more stuff!

I'm grateful that my local public broadcasting service aired Detectorists. I looked forward to Saturday nights and wish there were more seasons. I think that we Americans are used to, at times, double the number of episodes per season and much less lag time between seasons. But, when there is a quality British show, it's worth the wait. I do hope there won't be a poorly written knock-off. For every "The Office" or "All in the Family," there are countless very bad versions that simply don't translate well.
Detectorists is that perfect jewel . I found it during Covid and have watched all three series , 3 times now :)
Me too!

A very understated subtle, gentle and warm comedy, of the type the Brits do best. Well done Mackenzie Crook , you've created a classic gem...:)
