    I'm pretty sure everything on a German car is Metric NOT standard. You should always use the box end of the wrench not the open end unless you want to strip the bolts. Use a brass hammer and strike the wrench to brake the tight bolts loose. No offense but soon as I saw you using standard wrenches I knew it was amateur hour.

    Fellow Canadian here! I wish I had grabbed a double-double from Tim's & watched your video before attempting my (2013 Jetta) rear brake job as well. I actually DID overnight the triple-square and found the it wouldn't fit. Came in, beaten, told my wife I needed help- found your video and boy, I was embarrassed...until I read the comments, lol. I looked into replacing all four of my brakes and rotors. A dealership quoted me nearly a grand before tax. I immediately hung up discovered a brake company called Powerstop. All American made, 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, high ratings, cost around $350 for all four brake pads and rotors. The rest saving up for the kit. And everything else needed. I am getting help from a mechanic.

      Thanks, Scott! Word of advice from my own experience: unless you are tracking your car or experience severe lack of confident braking, do not go with drilled rotors: they are noisier and they will have shortened lifespan. Just get good quality flat rotors, you won’t be disappointed!

There's a few videos where the job is done and explained half ass, metric tools are a better fit on the fasteners, but sometimes you've gotta work with what you have, the only thing I would've done different and that's just me , I use anti seize on the hub and face of the rotor, Good video!

    Thanks for the video! Saved a bunch of time not having to pull the caliper bracket. One thing to note on my 2014 TDI (with TRW Calipers) a 15mm wrench fit the best on that inside caliper slide. 15MM is just a tiny bit smaller then 5/8" - also my Gear Wrenches had too thick of a head to slide in the gap, I had to use a standard 15mm. *sigh* yeah man I did it yesterday and removed the carrier because on some cars you have to. I just assumed this was like that without even TRYING to get the rotor out without removing it. I had bought replacement bolts no big deal, but getting them properly torqued working off the ground is no fun. It's like 66 ft/lbs plus 90 degrees which is on the order of maybe 140 ft/lbs of total force. Live and learn...I also painstakingly removed the Zimmerman Z-Coat from the friction surfaces (it clogged the shit out of a stainless friendly scotch bright) but apparently you don't have to do that. I'm still suspicious on that one, given how much that crap clogged up a simple scrub pad I really wonder if it wouldn't create issues with brake pads...then again who am I to question Zimmerman.

    Hey, Thanks for the clear video this makes it easy to change the brakes. I have a question though. I have changed my brakes on my older cars numerous times and never opened the brake fluid cap in the engine bay. I would always just use an old brake pad and C clamp to push the piston back in to create room. You mentioned to unscrew the cap before pushing the piston back in. At what point do you put the brake fluid reservoir cap back on? Is there any way for air to get into the system from opening this cap? Thanks

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  Рік тому

      Yes, you should always observe the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir. If it's full, you might damage the system by keeping pushing the fluid with the pistons. When I check the fluid level, I just put the cap back on loosely, so it can be easily removed and observed again. Once all of the pistons are pushed back, and level is ok (or if you have to remove some fluid), put the cap back on securely. Once you install all the brakes and pump the pedal to make sure fluid is pushing pistons securely against pads, remove the cap again and add the fluid back to the proper level.

      As you can see in the video, OEM pads don't come with any extra hardware. Perhaps you used low quality pads for your brake job? Try accessing the caliper and moving the pads with your fingers, see if they are loose. If they are, looks like they are not up to spec. Rattling can also be unrelated to the brake job.

      Hi Eric. Thanks! No, the car should stand still even on Drive (without you pressing on accelerator). We had the same issue with this car. You can adjust the parking cable through a tiny window covered by a plastic piece in the centre console box. But you also need to make sure the cables are not messed up on the rear brakes. We ended up having to adjust both.

      It only did it when I was driving at 40-50km/h. If the car is on the handbrake, without touching the gas, it’s not moving. So I’ m not to worried
      Also forgot to mention that it’s a brilliant idea to change the rotor without taking off the carrier. I think its even easier to clean when it’s in place.
      Again, thanks for the video.

    You didn't list the special caliper wind-back tool you used. Also, it's not just a screwdriver, but a T30 Torx for the set screw. I would add spraying it with penetrating fluid since it is notorious for getting stuck. Nice work otherwise!

    Grease on the rotor ? Wow
    I’ve heard of anti seize but not grease because it liquifies when it gets hot and can leak on to the rotor itself and cause either a fire or ruin your pads

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  21 день тому

      Yes, it was anti-seize grease on the rotor hat. It did not liquify and provided excellent anti-seize protection. It also did not cause any fire or fire hazard whatsoever, as well as it did not ruin the pads, and has been reapplied again at the next brake change last year. But thanks for your input!

    Do i need to retract the pistons all the way? I mean, inte you break you push Them out again

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  3 роки тому

      When you install ned brake rotors and pads, they will be thicker than the old ones, so you need to make more space in between the piston and other caliper side to accommodate for expanded rotors and pads. If you want, you can measure the exact thickness of the new rotor and pads and retract the piston just enough to fit the exact increased thickness. But why would you waste your time doing that if you can just retract the piston all the way back right away?

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  4 роки тому +1

      If you are using a tool similar to the one I use in the video, there is no way for the piston to spin and not back into the cylinder. Because the tool works by twisting the threaded pin so it's both twisting and pushing. There is no one action without the other when using this tool. If it spins, it pushes. If it cannot push anymore, it won't spin.
