Ha you're telling me I've worked on car's for a long time never had the urge to get on another mechanics video and tell them how to do the job. They must be bored and have no life 💁♂️
Very helpful my man, thank you! The triple square bit is indeed 14mm I picked up a socket bit by itself for 12$ from NAPA near me and had to wrench on those thing quite a bit with a hammer.
This video was very helpful. I will like to add that it’s not mandatory To remove the 12point spline bolts that secure the bracket. Those two bolts aren’t securing the actual rotor in any way and you can clearly see it if you stick your head behind the rotor. Those spline bolts are torqued tight as ffck and were a headache to get off. Remove the caliper, unscrew the the T30 and tap the rotor off. I’m assuming he removed in the video to avoid damaging the bracket maybe. Nonetheless thank you!
Excellent video ..but very helpful hint for anyone taking off rear rotors...YOU DO NOT NEED TO remove REAR CALIPER BRACKET to remove rotor=) just take off screw and hit it with hammer and once lose....u can slide it off WITHOUT removing caliper bracket.
One of the best I've seen and how I work - many years, lots of machinery with no manuals :) I have a 2016 Tiguan with the electric part brake "EPB" they call it (I see both ways to back off, 12v and scanner if have it). I'm hoping mine only takes 20 mins too :) lol!! It's interesting the same year different model and the whole EPB thing (would have passed on that if had a choice when purchased). That whole bracket on/off thing at the bottom :) 1st comments - not if you have to wack it with a hammer :) (if they are that expert, why watching videos on YT? - I'm not, but saw the hammer wack and know why you removed the bracket). Anyway, thank you and all the folks that do these - they don't make "Haynes" manuals like they used to. *I was somewhat concerned with Torque specs (could use a general bolt chart I know, no specs online - super secret I guess?) but how you gonna put one on (torque wrench anyway) - and see your mechanics "feel", or snug +1/4 turn and feel less anxious - thanks for that. Best regards to you (a year later too)!
Good video, definitely helpful. Just a side note: be careful with applying that much force on a ratching wrench. Use the box end to brake it free then use ratched side. Great video tho 👌
Please make edit to video so people avoid removing caliper bracket as it is not necessary. Thank you for video, really needed help for using tool to push back caliper piston
After doing this, my Emergency brake seems to pull up infinitely with no resistance and I suspect the pads are not engaging at all. Any insight in to where to start in finding a solution for this?
Great video--- I think I can tackle this myself with your help from this video -- do you have a recommendation on which brake pad/rotor to purchase please?

I did the brakes on our car today and I noticed this comment after I removed the splines on one side. That led me to look further and I noticed that you in fact DONT have to remove them so your comment saved me shit load of time when I went to do the other side. I think he only took the bracket off to have more room to put the rotor on. I did have to wiggle and jiggle it just a little bit with the bracket on but nothing too crazy

My wind back caliper has stopped winding back mid-brake job. I’m only using half the tool (socket adapter) because the back pressure plate of the tool wouldn’t fit into the caliper. Now the piston only turns but it is NOT going in further. I called a shop, they told me I should have put the car in service mode before starting the job. He was fairly sure but not 100%. Is anyone familiar with this issue. The piston rotating but not going back in in order to put the new pads on?
2016 jettas don't have electronic parking brakes to my knowledge. You need to get the backing plate in there to apply pressure while spinning other wise it will just keep spinning like you described
The bit you used to remove the caliper bracket you referred to as a 14 mm - 12 point. That is a Torx bit if I am correct? maybe not called the same in all countries. usually a Torx bit is numbered T50, or T55 etc. to denote the size. Does anyone know what the equivalent of 14mm is in a Torx Tsize? Or please explain to me if I have really confused something. The largest Torx bit in my socket set is a T55 and I will need to go buy something larger if someone could please tell me what size I need to do this. Thank you.
It can also lead to improper seating premature wear... why not just clean them. I'm guessing you prefill oil filters but dry off the seal on the filter....

NEVER let your caliper hang by the hose. Support it with a bunge cord or set it on something that relieves the weight.
doesnt matter as much if they are aluminum
rear calipers dont stress the brake line, its the parking brake cable with the strain on these.
I didn't know Bill Belichick was a mechanic! 😂

Fixing to do my daughters 2014 over the Christmas holidays. Bought a sunex stubby M14 triple square for like 12 bucks. Hopefully it will work

XZN100 for the caliper bracket bolts with a long socket wrench, preferably a flex head. From UNDER the car.

To just change break pads do you have to take the caliber and rotors off first ?
No just caliper.

Hey my caliper is pushed too far out to fit the tool in there. Any ideas?
You maybe able to get a pair of Chanel locks on it and spin it in enough to get the tool in or maybe look for a lower profile tool
I was so sad when I seen a round shaft in the back. Off to the store I go for some 12 points😂
Also don’t even need to take the bracket off, you can sneak the rotor off with a hammer for future reference
What is that spinning tool you used on the caliper. Circle shaped with two teeth on it to spin it. I’m stuck on that part
Just Google brake caliper tool

Mine is doing the same. Same issue with the tool as well. 16’ Jetta.
Spins but won’t reset all the way to put new pass on. What did you find
I never got it exactly the way I wanted it to be. But I ended up totaling my Jetta in September lol
What size is 12 point bit used to remove the bolts that hold the caliper bracket? Is that 12 point bit also known as a triple square bit?
Yes its a triple square I believe it's a 14
Once you use at T30 bit located on the front of the old rotor, the rotor slides right off without messing with the complete caliper removal
Thank you!

Don't you also need to remove brake fluid fill cap when applying pressure to caliper piston so it does not build pressure up
