7 Fun Ways to FILL your Sketchbook with Watercolor

Let's enjoy some restful art ideas that you can easily apply to fill your own sketchbook! I'm using watercolor paints for all of these ideas, but you don't necessarily need to use watercolor yourself! I made sure all of these ideas are easy and approachable enough that you can tackle them with any medium you desire. My biggest hope is this video just gives you a sense of inspiration, and inspires you to rest. :)

Also bonus excitement for the watercolor palette setup! The pieces today were very inspirational and I can't wait to try them!
I do the swatch page (or pages if inspiration doesn't come quickly), and I've found those pages very helpful. I like the pages for reference and of course that they take up those first few (sometimes dreaded) pages.
BTW, I love these videos! I'm planning on sketching tomorrow because my bestie bought me new, fancy mechanical pencils. Seems kind of simple, but it's oh so special since it's from someone I love. Thinking of sketching some moths now!

My New Years resolutions were just to try to be happier with what I have, as well as getting more exercise and Bible studying 😊💕
You sound just like me! My sister and I made a goal to "shop our stash" because we need to use our Blessings! I definitely need to add more time with my Bible, and so we went to a used book store and found used Bible Study workbooks that had no writing in them and we are studying the book of Daniel together. Exercise is something I need and don't do...so I'm starting with walking! You have great goals...you can do it!!!

I just started opening up to my creativity with water colors and you inspired me to get started! I cant explain how absolutly relaxing it was!! All the ideas are awesome and it inspired me so much!! Honestly i struggle with watercolours and i endup adding too many layers and potentially ruining it....and you taught me to be patient and enjoy the process💜 Thank you very much!!
This was a well timed video; I've had one of those days where absolutely nothing went right in the studio and I got myself all worked up because I "wasn't being productive enough" and felt guilty over it etc...that old story! Your tiger painting was a great reminder that some days it is better to rest and relax rather than stressing out over everything. Thank you. 😊

When I started watercolour painting I watched many videos on youtube and everyone's always like "You have to paint/draw every day to get better"... and you really don't. Art is a hobby for me, I only make art when I feel like it and that's mostly because I have a tonne of other hobbies that makes my priorities for them rotate.
And... I didn't paint every day and I still got better at watercolour painting :)

Love everything you do! I too cannot do the hustle culture....as I am a disabled nurse... it was really difficult to learn that all the loving care I gave to others, I deserved too!

I love how you are so kind to yourself and encourage the rest of us to do the same. I am totally with you on the resting thing. I don't like hustle culture either. My husband struggles constantly, feeling like he has to do something. I know he is frustrated by that, but isn't sure how to break that mindset. I love your tiger page!

I love the tiger illustration 😍
My new years resolution this year is to draw as many tigers as I can so that I can compare the first and last one at the end of the year. The reasons is that drawing tigers terrify me and intimate me, and it's the year of the tiger (lunar new year is coming up so I am gathering my courage until then) and I'm born in the year of the tiger so I truly want to be good at drawing tigers. It feels like a celebration goal where all year I just celebrate me being me and grow in the process. I also want to learn watercolor this year so I am double excited to the idea that I can try to create tigers in all kinds of mediums and various ways of creativity. 😍 congrats on the pregnancy!

Love love love the tiger and the meaning ❤ I had emergency gallbladder surgery right before New Years, and it's been hard to be okay with the idea I still need to rest and not push myself. Keep up the great work, and congrats again on the twins!

Hey Mira, I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy watching your videos. I love how peaceful, yet bright and cheerful they are! I also 100% agree with what you were saying about resting and I need to remember more often that I don't have to be "productive" 24 7 because sometimes the most productive thing is to rest.

I love this. I need to make a goals page. A huge goal this year is to allow myself to be happy and to rest. The last few years have made me afraid of being happy and optimistic but I’m ready to push past it. I also want to relax more and play video games again!
Loved these ideas and I like your guidance. A lot of videos out there about filling sketchbooks/ideas are either unattainable for newer people, or too complicated.

Congratulations! And thank you for this video. This is *exactly* what I've been needing! I'm a relative beginner to watercolor and as someone with motor control issues, it has taken me years to learn to create basic shapes, etc, so that sketchbook paintings help me relieve stress. Now I'm learning gouache, and its relative heaviness has set me back to square one. The sketchbook was becoming a *source* of stress. Here. however, you lay out some ideas that are achievable and enjoyable! And they teach brush control. So thank you for helping me get back to enjoying this beautiful palette of jelly cup gouache!

I also agree with you! As a beginner, all of the info is overwhelming. There are colors that I lean towards in almost all of my practice and paintings. It has started to matter less and less which brand, and more about how I like the flow, richness, and quality for what I AM trying to accomplish. Hopefully, that's not too confusing!? Basically, it does come down to our own unique, personal style. Thank you, Emma for putting this out!!
