Niko shot him 12 times , for his 12 dead friends...
thanks for the fact!!
Nice pick up
but the pistol had only 9 bullets WTF
+Martini Beibi Extended mags?
Maybe.
For such a comedic character, Roman really knew how to tone everything back and talk to Niko in this moment of stress and upset. Roman's more mature and understanding than he let's on. The acting in this game is immaculate
Ironically, Roman is based on a character, named Victor Bagrov from the Russian movie "Brat (brother)" and "Brat 2", who is as comedic and scaredy as him but less mature than both Niko and the character Niko is based on, Danila Bagrov from the same movie.
Yeah, Unlike Marvel or DC characters
And it shows that Roman for all his faults is actually the one decent person in the game. He may be an annoying gambling drunk. But he has a moral compass and is overall a good person. He works a legitimate job and avoids harming others.
I got chills of Roman's speech when I first play this mission

Gotta give credit to UL Paper man. A good man and a man of his word. Other government agents would’ve seen niko as a loose end. But he kept his end of the bargain till the end.
If only Haines was like that
Mike Toreno also did that, since he released Sweet from prison. He could've simply not do that
@@lenarratorsocietyofsuperio2731 tho compared to ul paper, mike literally sent cj to do beyond crazy stuff like invading an army base, stealing a jet, destroying enemy fleets, not to mention forcing cj to learn how to fly. And yet he wasnt even a soldier while niko fought in a war before.
San Andreas wasn't really as grim and serious as gta4
@@hexadecimal973 Toreno at least protected Sweet in prison. If any guards or inmates touched him he’d have them “Missing.”
Did anyone notice the symbolism during the phone call if Niko spared Darko? He started the phone call by calling him Florian and then ended it by calling him Bernie. That is a phone call I will never forget.
EL STINK it means he is letting go of the past and embracing the present
You should be an English teache-
Oh wait, this isn't Shakespeare
And in the call after killing Darko he calls him Florian and stays to that stating that the past is all he got before telling him to take care of himself.
I like the call after sparing Darko!
i feel like sparing darko is the right choice because the call is a lot better then the killed one and Niko moved on from his past if you kill darko Niko just won’t move on from his past
@@ACG895 true though i still killed darko in my playthrough to punish him for what he did
I loved it when the thunder strikes when Niko says: "I'm the one who survived"
The Serge Man me too
The Serge Man I agree too ^^
Gives it a more visual and dramatic punch imo
And you can see the lightning before you hear the thunder.
The most epic thing that it wasn't actually scripted.
Love the way he calls Florian "Bernie" in the "Spare Darko" outcome final phone call.
It means he's done with his past and that he's time to look at the future.
Best GTA game, even to this day...
Also how it's implied that after killing Darko, Niko has no reason to stay in touch with Florian/Bernie, with just a "So long, you take care of yourself."
It's cool how after sparing Darko, Niko is really on the path to being a better person and promises to talk to Bernie again soon.
The best storyline in the series.
@@Cizma77 Absolutely
@@Cizma77 Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Niko look for Florian to help find Darko?
@@TheChosenMoose01 I don't know
@@XCraft62 I just saw it. He was there originally to kill Florian because he assumed he set up his friends, not Darko. After realizing it wasn't him, he spared him.
The story line for this game is better than some films. And the voice actor of Niko, should have gotten more recognition for his performance. He did a very good job capturing the intensity of this character.
People get picky at the most insignificant things. For instance, most people never noticed the absence of the '' mission passed'' in GTA IV. That helped define this game as a more serious and mature instalment.
Fábio Aguiar I felt like I was watching a film more than playing just a video game. GTA V feels more like a video game.
Fábio Aguiar You are right about that.
Niko's voice acter spoke too slowly and forcefully and when it came to speaking Serbian it should have been spoken quickly and more accurately. Even the Russians weren't properly spoken or portrayed. Other than that, GTA IV is a great game.
Cheeky Kent I disagree. I think all the voice actors did a pretty good job. Voice acting is not easy, trust me I have done some of it in my career. I commend anyone who is a voice actor. It's tough work.
*"How much do you charge to kill someone?"*
That is such a powerful quote. It identifies Niko Bellic absolutely dead on as he betrays and kills almost every person he worked with in Liberty City. Mikhail Faustin, Kim-Young Guk, Ray Boccino, Francis/Derrick McReary, all because Niko gets his paycheck at the end of the day. This is why I let Darko Brevic live, not only that he must live with what he has become, but because it would be too hypocritical to kill someone because they have done the exact same thing that Niko has done.
Mr. Spy I know in wich way you wanna go, but it's still not the same one.
He lost is family and most of his friends in the war, because he got betrayed by darko. They fought in the same war (with Bernie) and on an ambush, they got betrayed by Darko and everyone got killed.
I don't really think it's the same one. Just because it's something different to be in the war and fight for your, and others live, than just "contract" killing.
That is not correct at all.
and if you look at darko a little closer he kinda looks like niko it must be his hair
Why done? Doing anything interesting?
Niko was more like a mercenary, a soldier of fortune, a hitman. Though it might seem, like Darko stated; a hypocritical thing coming from Niko: "How much do you charge for killing someone?", the major difference is that Niko never betrayed his friends like Darko. The people who he worked with, Faustin and others, were not his friends. But just employers of his.
“I’m the one… who survived.”
Best line in the game. You could always tell Niko boy waited too long to say that, which is seriously just so sad.
True
and you can say florian bernie crane cravic was the one who lived, leaving his past behind in favor of a potentially brighter future.
That line at 4:48 had a larger impact that most realize. While Darko was in the wrong, Niko was kind of like Darko in a way. Niko, like every GTA protagonist, has killed MANY people. While some of these people were assholes, they were still people. They all had friends, family, etc. The only apparent difference between the two was the price they charge. Darko killed 12 of his own friends for $1,000, while Niko will kill anybody for $5,000. This is what I loved about GTA IV's storyline, it was gritty and really made you think carefully about your choices. V was a great game, but I feel that it's story wasn't nearly as strong and compelling as IV's.
Oh, and I mean than* in the first line.
I agreed with you, but Niko do this "work" for survive not because he likes killing people. Niko is different than the others, is not a piece of sh*t that do this only for money.
It's like you find a new meaning in each sentences each time you listen them.Shit the game is deep.

@@snowpea7994 Killing him is too easy, Sparing him is a worser punishment than death
This whole mission, from start to finish, is a masterpiece. From the dialogues (Niko and Roman's convo in the car on their way to the airport, his conversation with Darko and Darko's confession) to the emotions felt through out especially the tremble in Niko's voice when he said: "you killed my friends for 1K dollars" and when Niko shot Darko 12 times, one bullet for each of his fallen friends.. And not to mention the "Mission Passed" track at the end, which differs from the usual track that is played when getting done with a mission. It just gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. This mission just proved why GTA IV has the best story mode in GTA games.
I enjoy the satire and jokes in GTA games but I appreciated how serious this mission was. No jokes, no levity just pure emotion
Michael Hollick is fantastic in this whole game but his voice acting in this mission is far above any other scene. In any other GTA game I could see "You ruined me, you fuck!" easily pass off as a dark comedic line or being totally over the top, imagine Tracey in GTA V screaming that line after T and M bust her Fame or Shame audition, but here? Hollick is just phenomenal even against the wonky facial animation he really manages to convey Niko's anger and despair realizing everything and everyone that were taken from him were only "worth" a measly thousand Dollars.
Best screenplay
When Niko executes Darko, he feels empty. When Niko spares Darko, he feels as if the past is finally behind him. Revenge and redemption are two totally different, yet very powerful things.
Yes but in the mission Uncle Vlad Niko seems real determined to find Darko and get Justice for his friends

"You killed my friends for one thousand dollars?"
Niko's voice actor deserves some appreciation for this line alone
He sound like he is crying..
Imagine that:Your friend kills 12 of your other friends for 1000$ to buy cocaine..
What's even better is the line that comes after: "How much do you charge to kill someone?"
Niko killed many people for the same amount of money or even less. Here, he's feeling the exact same thing that the families of those he killed probably felt.
It's not his voice actor. It's his actor. They did this with performance capture.
@@deathbyslipknotBack then motion capture and voice acting were done separately by different actors
@@DJ_Thanos No, they weren't. GTA4 used performance capture. Rod Edge directed all the cinematics, just like GTA 5, RDR1, and RDR2. Michael Hollick (Niko's actor) has talked about doing performance capture in the game.

3:06 - 5:35 This cutscene feels so realistic, Niko's voice actor did a really good performance here, you can clearly hear the sadness and emotion in Niko's voice
When I first played this mission I choose to kill him. The execution lasted almost 45 seconds, and it honestly didn’t feel that satisfying, and Niko seemed to agree. I played it again and I choose to spare him, and I felt like I made the right choice.
I think that experience kind of changed my view on revenge. Before that I was a very vengeful, vindictive, and angry person because people (including my own father.) wronged me in several ways when I was very young. If I could kill all of those people who committed those crimes It would probably change nothing.
As Roman said “Think about your future instead of the horrible things that have happened to you in the past.”
I will never forget the impact that this level in a video game on one of my world views.
Wow I just learned a good moral in a fucking Grand Theft Auto game.
Man, that's... really kind of amazing, yknow? Looking back at this from when I first played it, it's very evident this really is quite special, and exploring these intrinsically deep moral dilemmas through the criminal world is perfect.
But yeah, I'm glad it even managed to sort of assist you in your own situation. Kinda shows it has succeded huh?
This game impact my life too
It really is supposed to feel unsatisfying. It feels like it's the right choice in a way because it makes Niko realize that having his revenge wouldn't make him get closure or feel better about the loss he suffered

Choice A: Kill Darko, sparing him the guilt and depression of him killing him and Niko's friends?
Choice B: Spare Darko, leaving him to break down and succumb to his self-hatred, guilt and depression of the realization that he killed 12 of him and Niko's best friends for $1000, a temporary satisfaction?
It's like looking at a mirror, only that Darko is more depressed and Niko is more angered. Both of them killed a lot of people, only that Niko kills anyone for a large sum and Darko kills his war comrades for a small sum of money. A thousand dollars seems small in America, but in Eastern Europe, a small fortune in those conditions.
"Killing people that don't deserve it seems satisfying for a while, but sparing them and let them suffer is satisfying for a lifetime."
I can just imagine Darko breaking down, yelling at Niko to kill him but ignores him and keeps on walking. Breaking down, yelling profanities, bringing up of what he did, trying to provoke Niko but no avail. He finally cries and screams at himself for what he did and the question is in his mind: I killed my friends, our comrades in that hellish war....for a thousand? A small satisfaction?! Then he gets up and runs away, crying and screaming, trying to find some way to get rid of the shame and self-hatred for his actions.

The best choice is to spare Darko:
You kill Darko: nothing changes. Darko was litteraly a walking dead man, killing him is doing Darko a favor. That's why Niko feels empty if he kills him
You spare Darko: Darko will suffer a little more, a best punishment for his sins. Or maybe he will get a better life (or at least a less shitty one). Niko understands that he isn't better than Darko and by sparing him he forgives himself too.

I know the language/translation spoken by these actors isn't that good in the context of knowing the language they are speaking, and I know why they speak English for the sake of the player.
Obviously they want to give the information and emotion in English so that the target audience can understand, and the English acting in this cutscene is amazing and memorable. And as pointed out by most, they are really butchering the characters' native tongue, but when I wrote this comment I was in the mindset that Darko probably wouldn't know English well enough to converse with Niko on this level, and Niko's clouded rage would most likely have him speaking directly in his native tongue that he is comfortable with. I was also thinking that I, an English speaking player, wouldn't know they are butchering the language as I myself don't speak it, so it comes across fine to an uneducated person like me. Who knows, maybe they are really speaking Serbian and the narrative of the game is letting us hear the conversation but just in English, like a subtle perspective shift, but that's just a fun theory.
So that's what I was originally thinking, although it came across a bit ignorant. I do apologize, and I still love this whole scene with all of my heart.
That's true, it would've bin more realistic if they spoke Serbian.
@RadTheLad yeah I'm a Serb myself and I hate listening their serbian
@RadTheLad His Serbian even sounds more Croatian than Serbian also.
The Serbian that they spoke in the game was just terrible. I'm a Serb, and I could barely understand what they were saying.
If they spoke Serbian I would of been forced to restart the mission and turn on my damn subtitles to know what the hell they were saying.
I love how lightning and thunder strikes the moment Niko finishes saying "YES YOU DO, I'M THE ONE WHO SURVIVED!!!" To make the whole encounter a more dramatic scene like from out of a movie.
"You ruined me you fuck!!!" Boom
9:36 Man that theme.Who else felt goosebumps
Felt so too. But why do you think they played that theme instead of the normal theme.
I let him live, then as he became an npc, ran over him in my car. Doing that interrupted the kill spare darko dialogue and the kill darko dialogue started.
***** he was, but I meant he started to act as a regular one before I ran him over
Robin Rai I spared him then I shot him in the leg
@@Ridiona this seems to be the best choice
He then runs away, implying that he didn’t want to die by Niko’s hands, but by someone else or his own hands.
That part when Niko says : you killed my friends for one thousand dollars. That change in Michael Hollick's voice and tone deserves a reward. This one of my favorite missions in the whole franchise. Dialogs are just amazing
I think the thing I appreciate most about GTA 4 is that the characters feel like legitimate human beings. Niko isn't a good person no, but if you play him the right way, he tends to hold back more often than not. There's a good person in there, he's just hiding underneath a scummy criminal. And that's *good* writing. Nobody is perfect. Very few people are purely evil on that same note.
Man when i was watching this i was like."Don't kill him he has already suffered enough" than i get the game and get to this point. And then i see that the moment is much more powerful when you actually play the game.I almost fucking pulled the trigger.
Best game ever
0:05 "U.L Paper calls Niko about Darko"
U.L Paper: Bellic, I have your man. He's been flown in, we're going to drop him in the airport cargo area for you.
Niko: No more jobs? Is that it? Am I out?
U.L Paper: You're out. You've done good things for us and we are grateful, that said. I've given you a lot of protection.
From here in, you're alone. Goodbye.

I like how Roman does some convincing to Niko to let Darko live as he sees death as an escape from torment, and if Niko doesn't kill him, he'll be suffering until he dies to other causes and "He doesn't look like he enjoys life too much." that line by Roman is a good way to make the player reconsider killing him, as I can't help but feel sorry for him.
His mind is in a terrible state due to substance abuse, and if you execute him, he is desensitised to the pain and utters: "Thank you..." before being shot again. I don't know about you, but that was sort of heartbreaking to me to hear from him, I chose to spare him, as he's a war criminal turned addict, he doesn't look like he does well.
For some reason I just couldn't kill darko
it was like niko looking at a mirror
wolf147X "how much do you charge to kill someone?" a quote that shows you're exactly right...
I think this too
Niko was known for being a hypocrite. He’s betrayed the McReary family and screwed them over. So i would kill Darko, but I’m at The Holland Play right now
@@wanilimbe since when did niko betray the mcreary ?

3:19 Darko probably blew that $1K in the first month he had it. He’s so loaded he barley even recognizes Niko.
He betrayed for 1000 dollars for squads during in war
I think it's touching that Niko calls Roman both times he thinks he's finally found the traitor (first for Florian/Bernie, then finally for Darko). I think deep down, despite all their arguments, he knows he needs the emotional support. Roman knows this too and this is why he insists on being picked up.
you see neil fuckmann? this is how you make a "revenge is bad" story.
A revenge plot better executed than The last of us part 2. That's a lot saying when a game from 2008 is better written than a "masterpiece" from nowadays. Niko has an internal struggle about the weight of everything he has been gone trough, gaining SOMETHING as a person, contrary to the nothingness he feels. The same nothingness which that other game is filled with. Revenge is bad, but if you don't gain anything from it it's just that: NOTHING. Ain't that right Abby?
"Only those who die get closure, the living do not"
11:54 If only Abby heard this...
Its all about marketing and politics, the plans for media and games this last 2-3 years was to make it as the more political correct as possible so the minorities could be controlled easily, it sounds weird and kinda paranoic but its truth, it moves a lot of money and people.
I feel like Niko sometimes, feeling empty in a world of political lies of "everyone is equal, everyone is free" while ruining everything so we can be controlled easily.
This is a revenge story and gave u a choice not from Last of us 2
I actually still really liked last of us 2. But i couldnt not think of this story arc when playing it. The writers of this gta maybe could helped out or something idk lol
@@TheYoungMuTe nah, i mean rockstar can write a story like Last of Us, just look RDR or RDR2, but TLOU2 felt really rushed and written poorly, and yes, what they did to Joel was really bad at terms of story writting, and the "revenge is a fool's game" plot on TLOUS 2 didn't even gave the player enough reasons to abandon the revenge stuff and it didn't even them an option like in GTA IV, where you could choose 2 different endings, like one where Ellie Kills Abby and, idk... laugh like a maniac then notice that... it wasn't worth it, similar to niko, who will feel empty after killing darko, and the second one should be one where she for some reason forgives Abby for Joel's death and they like... part ways in a dramatic tone... but no, let's make the players play with the villain and not give them enough reasons to spare Abby.... what a letdown.
The first one is a revenge story. The other is a teen angst TWD episode.
Darkest missions:
GTA SA: The Green Sabre
GTA IV: That special someone
GTA V: Bury the hatchet
epic mission isn't it? there's a storm in the background and Niko is interrogating Darko..
"Everything that was good and innocent in me died along with them"
Damn
Im going to say this about GTA 4 :
When you really look back at some of the missions, and just the overall feel of Niko being in this situation, you realize one thing: There truly is no happy ending of sorts. When he first reveals why he came to Liberty City, you're already interested to know if the thrill of the kill will be worth it. But when given the penultimate decision and seeing how low Darko went, you realize that just by killing a man who, yes did sell out your friends for a mere grand, might've seen his own downfall and just wanted to remain ignorant but hiding it. He might not have WANTED to sell them out, but given where they were from, why wouldnt he? But then to look back and realize the fuck up you committed, that had to add to his junkie tendencies. Now for Niko, to come to America to seek revenge as well as the better life, you realize, they ARE on the same page. Both want something so minor, but in their own minds, its the greatest joy.
I can’t believe this masterpiece is older than most of fortnite players 😂

Darko: "How much do you charge to kill someone?"
Niko: *Leans back in random chair* "You know my price...5. Your call. I don't care."
Niko fires 12 pistol bullets to Darko, and thats because Darko killed his 12 friends, but its even more strange, because that pistol has a 9 bullet mag, and Niko never reloaded in the moment :o
Maybe he used the glock 17?
I watched another video where he uses the other pistol (the one with 9 bullets) and it happens that, thats why im saying this
who cares
Looking back, this mission was deep. When Darko says "How much do you charge to kill someone", meaning that Niko was no better than that, and throughout the course of the game, all we were doing was taking someone out for money, but the difference between Niko and Darko is that Niko would never betray or sell out his friends/family, crew for money, so thats what makes Niko 10x better than Darko.
The dialogue at the end if you spare Darko, when you talk to Florian, is also deep, how he talks to him, and at the end, he calls Florian, "Bernie".
I agree that killing Darko won't solve anything, and may not even make a hint of the pain go away, but what about breaking that bastard's arm or leg so severely that he will live the rest of his life with screws and/or plates in it? I feel that giving him that physical reminder whenever he tries to lift something heavy or tries to run, but grimaces in pain due to the permanence of the injury would simply make his life harder from then on, or at least it would spite him a bit. Idk...just walking away from someone that horrible just doesn't seem right, but then again maybe I have a strange sense of justice.
The Phantom Pain
Lol I actually beat him up and then let him live. Though I had to restart the mission because I hit him too much and killed him
Or put him in prison for 40 years and he would feel the pain...
ahhaah same Diego xDD
I'd put a bullet in his spine. If hes sad and depressed now, let him be even more sad and depressed in a fucking wheel chair. Then, he wont be able to hurt anyone else like he did before, living miserably for the rest of his days. Fuck Darko Brevic.
"Kill me then!" Poor guy just seems dead. Just think, you get one life, and some people make good of it, and some make bad of it. Once you do either, there's no real way of turning around or going back in time. And sometimes the pain is just too great and people become dead inside, lose their souls. They had one life, and it was ruined because of their choices and actions. I'd rather have my life ruined by someone else than by myself any day of the week. All I can do is feel bad for the poor bastards that fall into the abyss of life and can't get out, whether they know it or not.
so did you kill him?
"I'd rather have my life ruined by someone else than by myself" quite powerful. Kind of a rather overall decent thing to live and abide by; I can't say I'm not sometimes prone to somewhat self-destructive behavior - but I ensure it only affects me, because I couldn't live with the alternative, yknow.
(not to be too dark, I just like that observation)
I really hope they bring Niko and a lot of the other GTA 4 characters back. This game had the best story, meaning and characters.

a lot can be learnt from a game even if it has tonnes of controversial subjects
*Especially because of it's controversial subjects, I'd even go as far as to say
I like how Niko has Florian's contact saved as Bernie in his phone. It's nice to see that Niko completely respects Bernie's change. Neat detail from Rockstar.
No one gonna talk about the perfect timing of the sound of thr thunderstrikes during the cutscene at 3:00 ?
The fact that it's thunderstorming in the game makes it more sad. I feel sorry for Niko, and all the shit he had to go through.
As a kid, I always chose revenge because of the whole, "Yeah! Niko wanted this! Darko is a bad man!" Then over the years as I got older, I realized that letting him live is actually the better choice for Niko as a character.
As Arthur Morgan said, "Revenge is a fool's game."
8:08 Niko remained empty because Darko was glad to be dead
And I think that this part when he killed darko made him decide revenge isn't what he was looking for. So he did the deal but he won't forget what rascalov did. But he let go too much and it would turn to roman being dead. My theory is that if niko kills darko he would be doing the deal. But if niko spares him, you decided to get revenge on dimitri and niko won't feel empty from that. You can call me stupid if you like it's all good
5:06 The carton is a coffin shape.
I definitely understand what Niko feels in this mission. I was betrayed by someone as well (Not during any war, or crime) and I want to confront that "Special Someone" as well
Edit-I did it, and now I feel much better. I hadn't forgotten that betrayal, but i don't care about it no more. I'm trying to move on right now
@@skeletonentertainment4201 You know, you don't have to be 1:1 exactly like some character to understand or even relate to him or her. I was never in army and I never was a criminal, but I still understand what Niko feels, because I was betrayed as well

The real ending will always be sparing Darko even though we all don’t like him, Niko adapts through the game to be a better person and makes sense for him to put his past behind him when he spares Darko.
Stop the cap, Darko didn't want to die, if he really wanted to die he would've killed himself. The only reason he "begs" niko to kill him is because he knew his time was up and there was not getting out of that situation. Niko sparing Darko after spending all this time to look for him may be like a lesson where finally finds him and exchanges some words but still, a waste -its the same guy who butchered all his friends-... Killing him also closes the book completely.
Gotta use the weather cheat to make it rain on this part.
I remember the first time I did this mission years ago, I spared Darko but when I was driving away, Darko died. The dialogue immediately switched up and Roman was berating me.
I can only imagine that Darko got hit by some vehicle but I was so confused.
This scene always struck me as so sad. After all those years, the man Niko was hunting wasn't some criminal mastermind, just a washed up junkie. It really struck me the way his whole quest for vengeance was revealed, whether he spares Darko or not, to have been a waste of his life.
this mission taught me that revenge is wrong in so many ways. Just like Niko said, ''i feel empty, i feel empty''
