    I had a shoot yesterday, everything was going against us, time, lightning, sound, location. It is almost always like that for me. But then I pulled out a 1.4 23m lens, 4 audio (main, lower gain, wireless ) a couple of small tube Leds and I was set. No need for monopod. The FX30 is really a steal. A complete kit fits anywhere si you can carry everything with you

    I recently got an fx3 and researched the hell outta all these cameras before I chose. The given is this: ALL of these cameras look amazing and you can make top notch looking content from any of them. The deciding factors are in which features the cameras have to make your day easier, and the form factor. I do a lot of handheld and gimbal shots with fast movement, so I opted for a smaller camera with a good rolling shutter and auto focus. If you are cool with a hefty camera and only manual focus, the 6k pro is an absolute beast of a deal. Cant go wrong with either option though, both are baseline amazing

    I have a modded original 6K.
    It has the Tilta screen kit. So that iPhone sized rear mounted monitor is superb for low and overhead work. Added velcro so a cardboard hood fits onto the screen. A terabyte of on board SSD. Variable ND on the lens. Its a superb machine to shoot with hand held and nearly every shot is usable.
    You'll have to prize it out of my cold dead hand.

      On the other hand for social media I am not sure 180 rule is still as big a thing. Besides, since you have 120fps with audio. We are taking 1/240 shutters and 1/480 if you go with 1080 240fps.

    I have the fx3, miss the ND filters. But as for the menu, I program what I adjust normally in the fn menu. I’ve also found that auto focus is much better than my manual focus on the ronin gimbal.

    The black magic is miles ahead. Braw and ProRes are way nicer to work with. When you film in 4K ProRes there is no crop. Once you add an external monitor to the fx30 you’re already at the size of the black magic that doesn’t require a monitor. And for professional work, I find that auto focus fails more often than not at getting the shot I want.

    • @dcfanforlife533

      I understand this only if you’re constantly working in big professional projects cause i know what you mean about the auto focus potentially failing on a certain shot. Well when you work on bigger professional projects i understand that a bigger rig where you’re in control of absolutely everything is crucial, but when you’re working on other content that isn’t supposed to look like a high budget movie then a compact camera like the fx30 will work 100% just fine.

    Hi, thanks for sharing this with us, it's very qualitative! I'd like to know what do you think about the Panasonic cameras (S5/S1/S1H) as they're full frame cameras and can shoot up to 6K ProRes Raw or Braw, and are also cheaper (the S5 is around 2000$ with a monitor for shooting raw). Can an S5 be good enough for more professional projects or Sony and Blackmagic are more appropriate for this?

    The 6K Pro is honestly a way better cinema camera in my opinion. I think you are right, the biggest thing to factor in here, is the content you shoot and your shooting style.
    I have the 4K with the metabones 0.67x as my B-cam and gimbal cam, my OG 6K is rigged for handheld work. This system works for me perfectly.
    I’ve also noticed that a lot of people talk about how they don’t like how you have to rig the pocket cameras and then go on to buy an FX3 and rig it up.

      I am really not sure that that is the case right now anymore. FF has spoiled everyone because it almost always looks great. I feel like most UA-camrs making this kind of comparison videos only shoot "run and gun", which frankly is cinematography in the same way shooting with a phone can be. Most serious work in the field is not run and gun. The definition of the craft is not. I feel like a there's an entire up and coming generation that is taught by you people that the most amazing thing about filmmaking (and gear) is actually not having to do it yourself. Maybe try something you actually enjoy.
    Autofocus is nice. Stabilized sensor is as well. But wow, I feel like this people would rather take an FX30 to a film set rather than an Arri Alexa because it's "easier". It feels nice like scrolling through TikToks before bed. You see, there's this thing about mastering a craft or an art form which is delayed gratification, it happens to musicians, painters and well, filmmakers. It builds mental fortitude and will, which strengthens the sense of being an "author" or a Director. It lets you analyze yourself, self critique your work and most importantly, it builds the ability to conduct the orchestra of microvariables that present to you at all times while executing this field of work.
    The normalizing of "not having enough time" to work on a shot is like... what else should you be doing? The matcha is getting cold, I get it, but, maybe actually perform what you're there to do. I guess this is true if you just do weddings or quick events, but hell, that's not even 1/4 of what you can do as a filmmaker, so a comparison like this without proper context is just irresponsible.

If on top of that you are not even using native lenses that give you AF, there is absolutely no reason to go Sony if you already have the 6K Pro. Just my opinion though. Fx6 and FX9 give you DCI, so I really don’t get why the FX3 and FX30 don’t

    Talking about autofocus when comparing Cinema cameras is a little meh don't you think? Same for the battery life. You would rig any camera the minute you want to work on any 'cinema' level project. The FX30 would need rigging too, even that top handle counts as rigging, and we all know how inconvenient it is. And you conviniently left off the image quality, dynamic range comparison between the two. Same for the codecs, (12 bit RAW capabilities, ProRes,... ) which are way better on the BMPCC, I'm not even going to start with the exposure tools, the I/O, shutter angle, audio preamps. The FX30 is convenient, and that might be enough. Unfortunately autofocus is more important to most UA-camrs than real cinema grade image quality, which the FX30 (I own one) is NOT capable of producing compared to any BMPCC camera, not even the micro 4/3 4k one.

    • @somethingbigger
      @somethingbigger 8 днів тому

      Do you think BMPCC is better for Podcasting? I own FX30, and I am thinking of switching to BMPCC. Due to the possibility of recording to an SSD card (saving a lot of time), it is possible to use Atem Mini and control all the cameras. But my concern is with the size of the files, I think they are huge compared to FX30. What are your thoughts?

    I am honestly so sick of hearing all the whinning from the small-handed, I want everything to be easy and convenient type of photographers and videographers! Geeez is there any skill left in these crafts anymore? Is tech the new creativity? Are you seriously claiming that a T5 SSD is too bulky to keep up with? I would lose an SD card, way before I would ever misplace an SSD! I have the sony and the BMPCC lines and I completely understand that autofocus is not a cinema camera thing. Turn the fricking Dial/ring and obtain the proper fucus!
    Simply put if the cameras are doing all of the work what are you there for? What make you so unique? The way you point the camera? because it seems as if that's all some of you are doing.
    Lastly, no I am not the best cinematographer or photographer but I am willing to sharpen my craft through hard work with a decent-sized camera made for men with normal-sized hands that can lift heavy objects like a 7 lbs camera rig. Look at me complaining about the people that are complaining! LMAO

      @BenGleasonMedia  Рік тому

      I totally get what ur saying man! I did complain a lot about convenience, let’s be real 😂 I did not phrase the T5 comment the way I intended. I meant that its bigger than an SD card. My bad.
      I LOVE having big cinema rigs so much! I’ve used them for almost a decade and still use them on a daily basis. As I probably should have worded, because I do more social media stuff now, auto focus and a lightweight portable Sony camera is better for the fast paced environment of social media content creation. And some of my favorite cameras to use are old film cameras that make you do all the work, i do see all these fancy cameras making us lose sight of the art behind the camera.

You now have digi cards, and pretty much unlimited takes, where as before you had to really think and plan every shot as film stock was expensive and hard to use. So that person would say you are being 'lazy' and not a real filmmaker. These comparisons sound snobby. I filmed a doc for tv before, I aint the best, at all, I am ave at best, but the camera was hard to use. Did things being harder 'perfect my craft?" no. It just made things more stressful and took time from things like the story. Both are good cameras, I have a BM but people here acting like they some high end directors or cine guys is hilarious. BM takes time, and you need everything controlled. It is a very good cam. So is the sony fx30. Ultimately, starting out, and pretty sure 99% people here, you dont have the budget or you will never get to that level. So the camera, actually doesn't really matter that much, it does to a degree. Has to look good, but doesnt need to look amazing, since if anything else is lacking, guess what, it wont be good overall. Who cares if your image is good, but the whole thing sucks? Same thing, if amazing story, but image sucks, it is distracting. It's balance. But most ppl here acting all snobby and looking down at others, when in reality they probably have not done much.

You don't even mention the CFAST option which give you high speed internal storage without the need to rig up an SSD. Blackmagic gives you multiple storage options that Sony doesn't.
    Your size comparison is also off. Sony systems have a tiny body but their lenses are huge and too expensive. The operating system on Blackmagic is the best in the industry. The large tilt screen means you don't need to spend more for an external monitor. There's built-in ND. And you have an inexpensive EVF option. Plus full BRAW recording for the best footage possible.
    If continuous autofocus is your only priority then sure, don't use Blackmagic. But for everything else...

    Sony - Lighter, Auto focus, way better battery, smaller, ready out the box, image stabilized, adjustable monitor, 10bit codec, external pro res & pro res RAW w/ Atomos Ninja V/V+ BUT RAW CROPS 😭, very small screen (coming from bm cams), does not take SSDs, cfast cards are EXPENSIVE
    BMPCC4K/6K - Better image quality, better colour science, internal 12bit codec, internal RAW codec, anamorphic desqueeze monitoring AND BAKED IN, comes with da vinci studio (new), false colour, BMPCC4K is CHEAP used, mini xlr ports for audio, takes SSDs, bigger/heavier body, bigger screen, fixed screen 😭, battery sucks nuggets, needs a cage (imo)
    BMPCC work arounds - rig your camera out, more weight = less shakes, get an external monitor, buy more batteries (they're fairly "cheap"), learn manual focus (auto focus usually isn't used in professional cinematography)
    For me personally I want the best image quality justifiable. I don't mind working a tiny bit harder to get a better image that can't be replicated in post. Black Magic has something that can't be replicated in post, sorry not sorry lol! You can run and gun with BMPCC as well it just takes a little more effort and a little more time. Every camera brand is so good now, almost any other camera will get you 85% of the way there, but once you reach that 85% the last 15% becomes 100% of what your chasing. And if you want it you won't be able to get it in another camera. So if you do any kind of cinematography go BM but if you don't do any cinematography or aren't looking for the best image quality/most filmic look then Sony all the way. Your life will be easier fs! Hope this helped, congrats on reaching the end, cheers x

      Very good points here. My first camera was a GH5 and then moved on to the GH6. The limitations of these two cameras being almost unusable in low light and useless AF. But it's exactly these two limitations which made me into a better filmmaker. I had to learn a lot about lighting techniques and how to pull focus. Most of my filmmaker friends have been shooting on Sony's and Canon's since day one and lack knowledge in both these areas. No matter how good of a filmmaker you might be, if you get booked on a professional set and you tell them you don't use manual focus because running the camera on Auto is how you film stuff, you won't make it on the final roster.
