I enjoyed this conversation, but I really struggled with Claudia’s strong, outright emphasis that it is still possible for a family of four to be able to exist reasonable on a single salary.
Certainly, there are high earning career paths that enable it, but when I was growing up, my stepdad could do it with a factory job.
When I look at the cost of housing alone, earning 3x housing costs on a space large enough for a family of four and having enough to feed, clothe, and meet the other basic needs of said family doesn’t happen for a single earner on a median pay job today.
