This is a GREAT way to present the set story. I'm surprised it hadn't been done like this before. Keep it going, and if you wanted to split it up into episodes that would be nice as well

Probably because this is so overly written into being a story more than ever (feels like clue), so it wouldn't really click/work if it wasn't as forced and over explained as it is. Still, I feel this setting and plot is rather uninteresting. Specially after the most recent events.. WotC being WotC, they'll ruin the reveal, and it will all be forgettable again OH WAIT! 🤣🤣🤣

I see some people complaining that they already reveal the culprit in the video. But it feels like this isn't quite the full story yet. What happened to Agrus Kos? And why was Aurelia targeted? Because as far as I know she did nothing wrong during the Phyrexian invasion.
Maybe the dryad isn't the true culprit. Or at least not the only one.
That I agree with. To me, she is colluding with rakdos in some fashion; there was a different set of plants that had an effect that seems to be of pacifism, but I think it's really to allow ol' jester horns to keep tabs on the going-ons at Vitu-Ghazi. I've a hunch that the case is not over yet.
Feels the same way to me. Why would they have this whole meta mystery and puzzle solving aspect in each part of the set if the mystery was already solved???

I love this video introduction. I haven't played MTG in 2 years, but I'm itching now to install Arena again. It's amazing to go back to Ravnica and this narrative brings something new to the plane and Magic at all.

I quite like this way of showing off the story for the set, especially by showing the story cards alongside it. I would've appreciated it more if this was released *after* the actual story that was being written was finished, but oh well.
Teysa is my commander so i'm kinda sad she died but considering she's Orzhov, its actually a good thing she's dead. looking forward to the new Teysa card

Not Teysa! Nooooo! I must now rebuild her and play her next game. Death triggers, and alot of protection and resurrection so she never dies. 😂❤️

This could also be a fantastic D&D adventure for the Ravnica setting. There are so many characters that could be the actual killer. With only a small tweak, the adventure could end with any of them as the final villain similar to Waterdeep: Dragon Heist. would not be surprised if this ended up being a D&D product.
Shameless plug, but our new actual play campaign (a murder mystery set in Ravnica) premieres in just over a week!
It's just sad that D&D is awful to adapt MTG's mechanics and spells (spell slots instead of mana being number one, class restrictions being another). I'm having much more success adapting them to the Storyteller (World of Darkness / Exalted) system in my homebrews

This is the most excited I've ever been for a magic set. I love this theme and I hope they experiment with the story like this again.
4:10 that's not how blocking works tho, is it? If a creature is declared to be blocking that creature, then it remains blocked even after it de-disguises and gains flying. It won't "fly over" anything; it remains blocked. It even has the same toughness, so if your opponent blocked with lethal power, it'll still die, because the block was legal to begin with, so the damage from the blocker is still dealt to your creature. It's good for killing an x/4 i guess, but this is a terrible example of when you'd wanna use this ability.
Please do something along these lines for every future set. All Vorthos players would be thankful ❤

Trostani wasn't behind the attempted murder of Aurelia. Aurelia herself organised the attack on her own guards. She needed her Pearl Harbour incident for a justified casus belli on Rakdos.

That being said, putting it in the first look kind of ruins it. It should be in the story articles first, then revealed in the cards themselves

I certainly wasn't expecting Zoetic Cavern to be power crept.
I've always liked Zoetic Cavern. I've been interested in making it work for some time now and have mostly failed. In the late game, it's a land you can cast as an underwhelming creature if you're already flooded. In the midgame, if you have nothing else to do with your mana, you can pay 5 mana to essentially ramp. That's all you can do with it.
I wonder if Branch of Vitu-Ghazi can actually do anything more interesting than that as an almost strictly better Zoetic Cavern.
If you are looking to use "face down" creatures try Ixidor. Older legendary wizard. If you are playing EDH or something

I've only been playing since 2022, and while I've gotten excited for a couple releases, I've never been this excited. So unique and so exciting.
Impact tremors with an anthem effect seems good. Judith is bonkers.

The only bad thing is that in order to keep things consistent, face-down cards are still 2/2s for 3, a really bad rate nowadays even with ward 2 since they can't participate in battle so disguise cards must me strong enough to be worth the investment, let's hope that is the case this time.

I will say that while its odd that they put out this video a full hour before posting the story for people to finish reading, they did offer a decently sized pause in the video before they revealed the killer.

Such a bizarre decision. Especially considering the story had almost gotten to that point. I'm sure the writer must be very disappointed, now the scene she wrote for the big reveal will have all the impact taken out of it as most everyone will already know....

I may have DnD brain rn but this set can make for a nice campaign premise imho and even tho they revealed the culprit, you could argue its like tge Clue(do) movie where it had more than one ending.

It's great that you tried to create a story and deliver it in an interesting way, but the delivery of the conclusion felt weak and to short. That trostani did it for a noble cause felt wrong and that she acted alone too. It would have been cool if the story wouldn't have been released at once and it would have been perfect for small video series. I still enjoyed it overall and hope to see more of the stories in the world of MTG. Also RIP Teysa, one of my favorite characters in the 13 years I have been playing (killing popular characters like her is the right choice, because it feels way more like there are high stakes in the story, don't just unphyrexianise them) .
The story has been released on their website one part a day for the last week. Episode 8 was this morning before the video, and there are 2 more installments left.

Lavinia becomes a mana expensive Sol Ring. It could have some ability as, when she attacks, tap all creatures with suspect (your and of your opponent). It lacked creativity.

I digged a good 90% of the story, I can’t get behind the twist though. Yeah one of the emissary’s of all living things on the plane killed or attempted to kill 4 people, three of them being innocent and one of them tinkering with some dubious stuff at best. That super makes sense, totally.

How does the cloak ability work on etrata work? I assume you get the card you cloak from your opponents deck but it doesnt explicitly say that on cloak reminder text or her text.
there will probably be a common/uncommon card with cloak reminder text, mythics don’t usually get reminder text cause of all the rules text they have
If she connects damage, you exile the top card of the oponent deck and put It face down under your Control as a creature 2/2, then you can pay bu+2, and If It ia a permanente, It stays under your Control, and If It is an instant or sorcery, you play the card without paying the cost
A cloaked card is also probably "disguised" so the 2/2 creature you get will likely have ward 2. (This is also a way to make face up morph creatures better when you pit them back down through cloak)

There it is again Selesnya again being the actual evil. Also this should have just been Jace and Vraska pulling the strings and ending on the cliffhanger leading to further expansions.
When they revealed the Weathered Wayfarer to be the culprit, it honestly blew my mind. Great work wizards!
This is how you do it. Really enjoying the story and I'm 10:23 in. A fine yellow residue in powder form and a suspect who is confused after visiting a flower shop.... sounds like the culprit will be golgari seeing as they dabble in life as well as death. My bet is on Dina, Baba Lysaga, Izoni, or Meren. Would be great to see Grismold and Willowdusk but they are more unlikely I suppose...
Edit: I really had ruled out a Selesnya culprit and the fur is not explained. Great fun though and I look forward to this set :)

The fact that one of the cards is called "Slice from the Shadows" is a neat lil nod to a completely unplayable common from Gategrash.

One thing doesn't add up here, and i'm struggling to find a line that works. Most of the people targeted were targeted for being involved with phyrexia in some way. Completely unexplained is why Aurelia was targeted. just a way to deflect from the case, knowing that would lead to a war? i'm also concerned that Teysa had phyrexian script in the first place, since phyrexia itself is still lost in time, as i understand it.
Some people think Judith just sent Massacre Girl after Aurelia and told her to fake the memory loss to try and further implicate Rakdos himself.
@@charcharmunr I'm not sure that theory works, if only because I don't see how war with the boros helps Judith. I also don't think Massacre Girl had a stake in this case, so her attacking the detective indicates to me that she was being used by trostani as well
@@edschramm6757 Could be Trostani had further motives beyond simply revenge, or wanted to bring down the guilds they saw as the most disruptive to a Selesnyan harmony, I dunno.
@@charcharmunr I'm not entirely sure that faking is a reasonable expectation here. Id assume that there is some level of telepath on hand who could prove or deny it. My best guess at this point is that Aurelia was targeted by an assassin that wouldn't be able to down her, specifically to get Aurelia to attack rakdos. Once that war starts, it's likely difficult for anyone to prove what happened.
@edschramm6757 Aurelia is the type to jump to conclusions based on Massacre Girl trying to murder her with memory of thier fight. When she attacked Proft, she was on a contract and was completely fine
Same people complaining the mechanics are too much are the same people that would be crying if there hasnt been a new mechanic in 25 years. Stop hating change people!! Change is healthy for a game so it doesnt become stale and can attract new players!

Why was Massacre Girl sent for Aurelia? I didn't see a motive there, unless Oba really wanted Rakdos dead / at war with Boros.
Massacre Girl could be lying and Judith used this opportunity to either kill Aurelia or let the Boros finally go to war with Rakdos

What does “cloak” mean?
Cloak is a new mechanic with roots in Manifest: If you're instructed to cloak a card, put that card onto the battlefield face down. It's a 2/2 colorless creature with no name and no creature types. It has ward {2} but no other abilities.

Yeah when I saw one of the suspects was Massacre Girl, i was kind of thinking this case was done and closed...
They really have to shove Kaya and Kellan into every corner and every plot of the Multiverse without any need. And how could they kill Teysa? One of the last good characters. There is no Ravnica without her.

I kinda wished they didn't ommit the boros and selesnya sigils in Zadana's murder art. Kind of made it obvious who the killer was from there.
