  • Olympus OM-D EM-5 Review
Olympus is known to stay true to its heritage, and the new OM-D EM-5 is a sparkling example. Much like the revival of the PEN family in 2009, Olympus plans on continuing the OM tradition with the OM-D EM-5 serving as the first model to kickoff the family's digital lineage. tchno.be/NC5zBd

No, all dslr lenses are either manual zoom (Turn the zoom ring on the lens by hand) or fixed focal lengths (35mm, 50mm, 85mm prime lens). this electronic zoom feature you see here has only been featured on the mirrorless system cameras.

Yes, using the SEMA-1 adapter. ... it includes a stereo mice as well that fits into the 3.5mm jack on the adapter.

    Two comments:
    1) If you want to plug in an external microphone on the E-M5, you can do it, but you need to buy an accessory from Olympus. It's the SEMA-1 microphone adapter. But you are correct, it doesn't have a headset port.
    2) I think the reason the buttons feel a bit rubbery is because the camera is weather sealed.

No, digital zoom is when the camera crops the image to give you the effect of zooming, which in return kills image quality. This has an electronic zoom, which just means instead of turning a zoom ring, the electronic motor built inside the lens does it for you.

super review - I wish display images button was larger - else hard to find faults with the OMD-5 - Dramatic tone is really nice - but other filters not so exciting - Sony has watercolor etc. which I wish OMD-5 had - not sure if anyone has this issue, but sometimes when pushing shutter button nothing happens but I can use use touch fine so not a focus issue - very annoying - has anyone experienced this? Yes Panasonic and Sony do video better

I do not like the D800 because is not stabilized but a SLT-55 is an option for me. The body is almost half the price and weight is comparable. It is not so rugged but, as I wrote, you are paying for the metal frame and weather seal which I don't need.

can you get good bokeh with the kit lens 10-50? as it has a smaller then a APS-C sensor - or will I need a 1.4 lens - I would really like to skip the kit and go with the 14-150mm lens - but am afraid that it will not produce any bokeh - I know I am not expecting a 1.4 bokeh but at least some

If you're looking for a compact that will give you the best in terms of image quality, then you should look into a mirrorless system camera such as the Sony NEX-5 or panasonic GX-1. these cameras have large sensors and interchangeable lenses that will give you both the image quality and flexibility as well as the portability you're looking for. Mirrorless system cameras blow any compact point and shoot out the of water in every way.

I don't know, for me it doesn't do it. Does not has a built-in flash, video capabilities are crippled and is very expensive. Is not that small nor light weight either. Its sensor can't compete entirely against an APS-C sensor. The only thing is that it is built sturdy, is weather proof and you have access to some pancake lenses. Other than that there are cheaper options out there.

But being that this an Olympus OM-D, the most powerful micro 4/3rd camera in the world and would blow your head clean off you've got to ask yourself one question : Do I feel lucky with the focus ? Well do you punk ? ;-)

Spackled??? I sidegraded from the Lumix G5 to this because of the IBIS for my adapted tele lenses. I love the really quiet mechanical shutter. Unfortunately it does not have a silent e-shutter like the G5. The tilting monitor is not quite as versatile as a fully articulating but almost as good even for verticals. I cannot believe the klunky design of the "pentaprism" and add on flash. There are fully 3 plastic covers to keep track of (and lose). How difficult would it have been to integrate the flash like the Lumix???
