I think there’s genuine concern that people brought to the music through novelty won’t stick around or genuinely “appreciate” it, but you can’t force someone to and it’s always great to shine light on underground excellence regardless of the medium.
I bought this album for a friend on his 13th birthday. It was one of those things I wanted for myself so bad, so it was hard to give it away as a gift lmao.
Tarkus Emerson I knew you were gonna say that after I posted haha, well yeah but I think it's pretty anal to point those out as there are an infinite number of notes between the notes we use, it's just convenient for people who live in western societies to just settle for what we hear.
"I don't understand the concept of chromatics or dissonance in music, this solo is terrible because it's not just all the notes and scales I'm used to hearing!"
I was doomed to play extended range guitars...first heard this on MTV2's Headbanger's Ball compilation album. I was ten years old when that came out and this was the best song on the mix - saved for last. The sound was so immense and it touched something deep in my being, like a memory from another existence. Crazysauce
Clicked on this after I misread it as 'Rational Glaze'. I thought I would be disappointed but the songs lit and the comments about liking juice and vitamin substances made my day! Thanks y'all.
From run to the hills to this whithin a beer cup time makea me think, wtf has metal got into. Before pantera, After, hardcore included, now meshuggah. .. rather complex. I like it. But still, some old metálica riffs and pantera killing sequences still take the best of me. Fuck yeah.
Meshuggah has been around since 1987 or 86, they have evolved nicely and that's why they have a underground following. What they also do in theory musically is very cool. I think Meshuggah is one of the best "Metal" groups among Pantera, Metallica...etc
I don't think complexity necessarily equals anything positive. For instance, queen is rather simple, compared to heavy metal (we will rock you?)and yet regarded as one of the most relevant rock bands ever. Awsome things are often those done simply. Complex can be.cool, but when it's complex for complexity's sake alone... not so much. Meshuggah has a good.measure of coolnes out of complexity. But I think sometimes it's rather overwhelming than cool.to.listen.
8 string guitars, polyrythymic timings and bending strings. There's a great guitar lesson video where the dudes talk about their insane guitars...and that they don't use any pedals. I also think they're heavily into music theory and it's never about playing a riff as a riff, each instrument is a groove machine. The more I listen the more I realise this is all trance music.
I like juice, in a shark suit, filtered vitamin substance, add sour iced water into it, too many limes, everything is salmon, separated one fin at a time.
One of the cool things about Meshuggah is that it sounds like industrial sounds. Like sounds machines make at a factory. It's awesome. It's so mechanical.
The always present 2 notes switching, you know like 1--0-1-00-11-0-00-0-0-11-0 gives it the mechanical thing.

4:13 till the end! Has a different vibe to it than the start, but sounds similar
No one but no one can withstand the power of Meshuggah!
This is the grooviest groove to ever groove
Just hearing this for the first time. Don't know how I didn't know about this band for so long.
3:08 this solo is starnge
because it uses the chromatic scale which includes notes that are out of key of the original sound.
+Tarkus Emerson The "chromatic scale" AKA, every note.
Technically there are still microtones in between those notes used in certain cultures.
Tarkus Emerson I knew you were gonna say that after I posted haha, well yeah but I think it's pretty anal to point those out as there are an infinite number of notes between the notes we use, it's just convenient for people who live in western societies to just settle for what we hear.
It sounds like you're finally losing your mind
this is my favorite cover of darude - sandstorm
its amazing how they can make a riff out of 2 notes and make it awesome
I'm a straight 90's metal kid and I'm here because Leo from Wolf of wall street sent me! lol LOVING THIS TRACK !!!
If you could listen to H.R. Gigers paintings, Meshuggah would be playing. So alien like and agressive. I love it
You mean mechanical AND organic, but split in two while somewhat going well together ?
where's the "i like juice finish your juice filtered vitamin substance" part?
1:27 there you go
@@jonlicht8313 Thankyouuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
1:42 "everything is salmon seperated one fin at a time" 😂
"I don't understand the concept of chromatics or dissonance in music, this solo is terrible because it's not just all the notes and scales I'm used to hearing!"
Metallica might have some classically arranged song structures, but that's where the complexity ends...
1:41 Everything is salmon, Separated one fin at a time.
This song name is the answer for everything
Well, it has been some time since I first to something that caught on my attention so much.
These guys are brutal as heck, and I love it-
Baddest Group yet! got hooked in a second.
How did they make like 2 or 3 notes sound so complex?
It's all in the picking hand.
syncopation
Travis Vickers what's that?
off-beats, i'm certain there are plenty of lesson videos on here that can explain better than I and how to implement them.
The song that created Djent (Well, technically, the album that created it).
got dj0nt?
Meshuggah concerts should just have trampolines for the crowd. You can bounce to most of their songs.
Trampoline mosh pits would sound like fun!
I misread Trampoline as Tampon
One gargantuan trampoline beneath everyone's feet and every time the beats sync up one lucky soul is centuple bounced into the next dimension
I like juice, in a shark suit, filtered vitamin substance, add sour iced water into it, too many limes, everything is salmon, separated one fin at a time.
been listening to meshuggah sine i was 17. they just keep getting better
Maybe not an Emmy. But maybe a Grammy if Leonardo DiCaprio covers this.
