    One of the cool things about Meshuggah is that it sounds like industrial sounds. Like sounds machines make at a factory. It's awesome. It's so mechanical.

    • @tfos993

      The always present 2 notes switching, you know like 1--0-1-00-11-0-00-0-0-11-0 gives it the mechanical thing.

      That's how I tried explaining what I hear to friends. It's like an AI you give all the musical knowledge and theory to, then ask it to make music. But it doesn't understand melody or feeling and the like, so the songs are entirely technical and mechanical as you say.

    Just bought Nothing today and in the booklet it says:
    Meshuggah are made up of 5 different frequency/energy clusters, (see. physical entities)
    To make things easy, those entities were given typical earth-names and they are as follows:
    Fredrik Thordendal, Marten Hagstrom, Tomas Haake, Jens Kidman, Dick Lovgren.

      Patrick Sampaio Confusing timeline lol? Maybe if you lack brain cells...and if you don't care, then why did you bother to make that initial comment in the first place? The one falsely correcting me about who band members are? Knowing who band members are makes you creepy right? What a stupid fuckin thing to say smh...These guys have been around nearly 30 years. They deserve some notoriety. It's not like you even need to research them, if you knew anything about metal, you would already know who Tomas Haake is, seeing how he is regarded as one of the top drummers in the history of metal, and top drummers alive period.

  • @locksh
    @locksh 8 років тому +562

    "On "Rational Gaze" (from Nothing), Haake plays simple 4/4 time, hitting the snare on each third beat, for 16 bars. At the same time, the guitars and bass are playing same quarter notes, albeit in a different time signature; eventually both sides meet up again at the 64th beat."

      The rhythmic aspects of meshuggah come from the arabic/indian traditions for sure. I don't know anything about their involvement with indian culture, but the similarities bewtween konnakol principles and meshuggah's music are a lot to be just coincidence

      Meshuggah usually goes this way: the drummer's hands keep a straight 4/4 groove whie the legs of the drummer, the guitars and the bass are in a different (usually odd) time signature.

    Say what you want, Meshuggah revolutionized the way people play, and have bands much more popular then they imitating their style. From Whitechapel (Saw is the Law) to Deftones (I've Seen the Butcher) the influence to me is pretty clear. Meshuggah did to metal what Tool did to rock. Disagree about their talent all you want, they were unique and changed the face of music. Great band.

    Save your money for the day
    Blur reality to make a tree
    Let go of hate, it's the season
    Of Christmas harmony
    We've all been blinded
    By postmodern individualism
    A systematic denial of the family
    Choosing the fine meats
    Turkey and a lamb roast
    A fine dress of cranberry sauce
    Meats sprinkled with herbs and spices
    All reduced, simmered, cooked through
    Left in for the afternoon
    Caramelised, while it heats get your pudding just right
    Everything examined, separated one thing at a time
    A final dress and then, come Christmas
    De-li-cious
    PUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNN

    I love how this has become a sort of karaoke song for us Meshuggah fans.
    The "everyone sing along" song.
    It's got the perfect kind of tempo and rythym for it. Not too slow and not too fast.
    Ir's simple (for a meshuggah song) and it's catchy.
    It seems to focus a little bit more on the vocals and lyrics than most of their other songs.
    And eeeeveryone knows the lyrics to this one.
    I kind of had that epiphany when I saw them in Boston during December. Literally everyone was growling those lyrics along with Jens. Including me
    It was magnificent.

    From run to the hills to this whithin a beer cup time makea me think, wtf has metal got into. Before pantera, After, hardcore included, now meshuggah. .. rather complex. I like it. But still, some old metálica riffs and pantera killing sequences still take the best of me. Fuck yeah.

    • @scroggdogg28

      Meshuggah has been around since 1987 or 86, they have evolved nicely and that's why they have a underground following. What they also do in theory musically is very cool. I think Meshuggah is one of the best "Metal" groups among Pantera, Metallica...etc

    • @PreciseGameplay
      @PreciseGameplay 9 років тому +1

      Metallica might have some classically arranged song structures, but that's where the complexity ends...

    • @MaxHohenstaufen
      @MaxHohenstaufen 9 років тому

      I don't think complexity necessarily equals anything positive. For instance, queen is rather simple, compared to heavy metal (we will rock you?)and yet regarded as one of the most relevant rock bands ever. Awsome things are often those done simply. Complex can be.cool, but when it's complex for complexity's sake alone... not so much. Meshuggah has a good.measure of coolnes out of complexity. But I think sometimes it's rather overwhelming than cool.to.listen.

      8 string guitars, polyrythymic timings and bending strings. There's a great guitar lesson video where the dudes talk about their insane guitars...and that they don't use any pedals. I also think they're heavily into music theory and it's never about playing a riff as a riff, each instrument is a groove machine. The more I listen the more I realise this is all trance music.
