Derik is a beast and can stand up with the greats, he actually plays realistic chops. So many people teaching Marcus & Victor licks that you will never use ( unless you have a bass solo show) but Derik keeps it 100 and teaches real chops that are necessary in real day to day gigs. As a professional working bassist I often stop by and check out Derek and steal a few licks. I feel like I should send him some money. Great job brah
I agree, but I don´t see how important are these complex gospel licks in today´s music. The gospel is turning into "any kind of music played in a church". Any style of music can be played as a pray, in modern churchs!
@@acprado67 I'm GLAD someone else is saying "ANY kind of music in church". Might as well be a club nowadays!!! No difference between the church and the world. If a church isn't holding to and preaching THE WORD OF GOD, but instead is adopting the worldly aspects of the WORLD, why bother going to church? That's why I STOPPED going to "church".
Dude, this is so awesome that you teach in this way. I’ve been a drummer my whole life since 9 years old. I’m about to pick up a bass at age 44 because of people like you and Thaddeus Tribbett.
Dude, I've been drumming since I was 5 and started playing the bass seriously at 55 and now almost 60, I can tell you honestly I wish I had done this WAY, WAY sooner! I love playing bass as much as the drums and in some ways more! Unfortunately, it took a serious back injury for me to really consider the bass. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Best of luck to you!
This has made it possible for me to incorporate that mad scale into our traditional songs and made me sound beastly......appreciations sir darric.....your big fan from nigeria
GospelMusic4Life have you ever been in a church with no bass player like this? Lol omg When the Bass show up the piano player can take a break Lol that will be me 🤣🤣🤣🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
Your teaching is so good, especially since I'm getting back in to playing bass except with more theory and not just winging it. I really appreciate it.
I appreciate your knowledge and ability to communicate. Your right hand thumb/index finger technique is mind blowing. I’ve been working on that technique since last Monday. Any tips on how to get it fluid and natural feeling?
Brilliant. I Remember one time when I hadn't learned a rippin' lick. Not this song. Came up with my own. Only the (better) bass players called me on it. Glad I found your channel.
Thank you Daric. I love your method. You first show the student what to look forward to achieving then get into the lesson. I love your style. Not these other youtube lessons where the teacher just gets into the lesson however without really showing you what you are actually working towards.
I always get a kick out of watching the bass players in church. The facial expressions alone bring me in! The groove yes, but knowing they enjoy the music as well is uplifting.
that it's great teacher I would like to know how you move on the bass after playing a line the movements then to return to the line help me thank you very much
Good man.. I hardly comment on video, but this one is straightforward and your talking correlates with your teaching. I will try and add this master piece to my collection :) :)
woooooooooooow in my church we hardly ever play such gospel here in Africa, thank you for exposing us to such grooooooves ... any chance you still have that backing track pleeeeese
interesting in the minute 5.30-5.38 ascending descending lick, please make a slow version for this lick darick. it's so hard to learn in fast tempo.thanks for inspiring us
Hello Mr Bennett great great video Practicing that diminished lick/run But can you able to break down instantaneous awesome amazing lick at 5.30 please sir Would greatly appreciate it
Cool. 😁 While playing my bass, I constantly think and feel rudiments, just like drummers. Playing the snare really helps in many ways. 😎 I need more people like that in my life. Nothing matters besides music. ...and GOD, of course. 🙌
That was so good!!! I'm new to this and haven't heard much but I love the bass in Gospel music. Can somebody please give me a few examples of Gospel songs / standards to start with?? (Both listening and playing)

@@nathaniellollis3868 I’m not sure why you just didn’t find somewhere to attend that didn’t play club music…
Love the authentic faces he makes when producing a sound. So good.

You gonna quit drumming?
Age 44 is young. Keep going.
Quite right. Never forget. Confucius say, it dont matter how slow you go as long as you keep moving.
C. Spann Good idea, you’ll have experience with rythem

@@firstimpression9399 I probably would take my shout break. 😃 I love when you can feel the music because the groove is there.
The arpeggio run is very Neo-Classical style. Very cool! Seems like a fun tune to learn. Thanks for the video!
Your teaching is so good, especially since I'm getting back in to playing bass except with more theory and not just winging it.
I really appreciate it.
I just love watching you play, you are gifted man, a natural, up there with the best.

Before I watch Daric's videos I just go ahead with the thumbs up cuz I know It's gonna be good. Thanks Daric for your generosity and insights.
I like how you teach, because you teach slowly...as much slow teachers teach, much better for the students

Yes we need more gospel
the 4 string position fits perfectly on a 6 string. i just tried it. thank you very much.
I appreciate your knowledge and ability to communicate. Your right hand thumb/index finger technique is mind blowing. I’ve been working on that technique since last Monday. Any tips on how to get it fluid and natural feeling?

Man this is so inspiring
You make me want to pick up a 5 string bass again. Thanks
What does the 5 string do the 4 can't? I'm not a guitarist but play piano. You are so great. Sub/Thumbup/darkbellsmash!
Nothing really.. It expand your range that's all... From a piano stand point.. it's like comparing 64 keys vs 88 keys..
Ima get to the point. U hella raw bro.
Awesome sir 🔥🔥🔥🙏
Hallelujah
That bass looks so damn good
You're a beast D! Appreciate your tutorials! You've also got one dedicated Dog, he doesn't take his eyes off you! :)
