I just started to learn slap and pop its really fun. Not there yet but Def cool to add to your arsenal. Are you using your index finger to pop or your ring finger? Or whatever you feel comfortable with. Thank you
This guy really tought a class with in 10min , produced great success , no showing off at all , a heart to pass his gift on , great clip , great playing , great guy ,, keep up the good work .
I'll be 50 next year and wanted to play bass my whole life. Thank you for the great lessons! You're gonna help me get up to speed. Just bought a Yamaha TRBX17 and am thrilled to be able to learn from you!
I’m a beginner bassist, coming from playing guitar my whole life, and i gotta say this lesson was so freaking helpful and fun! Most videos out there aren’t as good as this and this helped me out so much! Thank you!
Dude.... you’re exactly where I am. Having played guitar so long I feel like I understand the “musical” aspect of this stuff but I have no technique for bass. I can play with a pick but I sound like a guitar player playing bass. Great video
Same here, I got my 1st six string on my 10th b-day in 1977 LMFAO, I was always a blues, jazz, metal player, classical for 1 year at The Southwest School of Music when I was 20, now at 54 I am finally working on the bass and I loooove the 70's Soul & Funk. Daric is the best teacher that I have found on the web...Hands down!
Mr. Bennett. I really appreciate all of these lessons. I wish I could meet you to shake your hand and say thank you personally. These lessons have really helped me develop my skills.
This video is a couple years old so I may've commented already hahaha Anyway, I'm 43 and I've been playing since I was a teenager and I gotta say: your videos really help sharpen up and solidify tons of rusty things and theyve shown how to break down seemingly impossible basslines into workable chunks. Good stuff man. Thank you, I sincerely appreciate your efforts. 🤘 P.S. I have been clinically diagnosed with OCD and one of the ways it manifests is with meter and timing. So, from a medically neurotic person: your timing is *SUPER* clean hahaha 🖖
Getting a new bass after years of being without one. So glad I found your channel, you've helped me reawaken an old passion of mine. Thank you so much!
Thank you Daric, I’ve got the techniques, now I’m needing to apply them to drum loops. Or a metronome. This seems to be the best video for where I’m at. Love your teaching style. And of course your playing is stellar .
Greetings from Spain. I think this lesson is very useful. It gets to the point and there is not ego involved. The slap is my weak point and this video has proved to be fantastic in order to strengthen my playing . Thanks.
I've been playing for 33 years. Never bothered to slow down to learn the basics of slap. " Night Court" was my intro. I got fingerstyle down my thumb leaves me out to dry. Can't wait to learn more. It's why we're hear. Here.
I like that you aren’t showing off, Billy Sheehan had a vid out that his slow was still way to fast for the average players, maybe he didn’t mean to do that but it was off putting, yours is right to the heart of the matter..thank you!
Subscribed! Your teaching is very clear and easy to understand. Thank you very much for taking the time to make videos like this. This really helps developing slapping muscle memory that much easier!
So, so happy I found your channel. I love that you get to the point and don't take forever to give a lesson. Great teaching style and so helpful Have played off and on for years, primarily by ear. Now that Im retired, I have time to actually learn what I'm doing. Lol Thanks again
When I opened this video I was shocked. Never seen a black bass with pearl cover. Mine is a Squier Precision Bass (Korea). Came with a white cover but I changed it because it broke (previous owner). I thought it was such a random combo but I ended up liking very much the end result. Still thought I was the only nutso with one like that.
I' m a guitarist/trombonist but subscribed because i used to play electric bass in Jazz ensembles in Army bands and bands on the side at times. I patterned myself after Chuck Rainey and Verdine White (who rarely popped during those times) at that time. Surely I could have made lots more money sticking with bass but my Dad playing BB , Albert King records did it! I dig your teaching style
Thank you so much man, you are an actual life-saver. Even though I'd been playing for just on two years and I could barely slap. I finally got it down and thumb pluck technique sky-rocketed after using these exercises. THANK YOU!
I’ve been playing the bass for a few years now. But I’m quite surprised at how difficult the techniques really are!! But these exercises seem like a pretty good way to get started. Simple and straight forward. I’ll definitely give them a try. THANKS FOR SHARING! 👍😎👍
Great video. Thanks for the tips. my main issues arise from popping going from the bottom to the top, and also going from plucking to popping. I'll have to try the exercises
Really great lesson! I like that you really stayed with the technique..I'm trying to learn slap, watched a bunch of videos and it seems like you're the first one to really stick with the technique consistently. Super job and thank you!
I noticed that when you do the downstroke that you anchor your thumb on the string below it. Most of the videos I've watched the players let their thumb bounce. This is probably one of those there is no right way situations, what do you find anchoring your thumb vs. Bouncing it to have some advantage with control or muting.
Just as a teaching help... when you break it down to 16th notes, slow it way down, so your students can grasp the rhythm. Then advise them to speed it up as they feel comfortable. Thanks for your post. You seem fired up to spread the funk!
Another thing, as soon as you get octaves figured out and can move them around a little go mess around with some rhcp bass lines. Most of them are just this but fancied up and you can still have some fun with them. A good way to practice if you cant stand to do practice drills.

What's the metronome app you used?
I love how effortlessly you are hitting the bass , I look like a jockey whipping a horse nearing the finishing line .

Good lesson. I appreciate your bare bones approach and not showboating like a lot of other cats. 👍🏽
The exercices will be very helpful. I never find how to learn slowly to slap. Thank you!

I subscribed 50 seconds into this video. Thank you so much my brother.

Thank you Sir. That's great
I feel good vibe hearing you teaching! Well done!
Thank you these exercises are a great help
thats really helpful broh ... Thanks so so much...👍👍👍
Great Lesson!! Learned a lot of great stuff quickly. you nailed it thanks!!
this has been the best slap course I've seen on UA-cam for beginners. is there another lesson?
Really great lesson! I like that you really stayed with the technique..I'm trying to learn slap, watched a bunch of videos and it seems like you're the first one to really stick with the technique consistently. Super job and thank you!
Amazing video man! 🫶🏻
This vid is invaluable thank you so much, beautiful tone on your bass also

This is probably one of those there is no right way situations, what do you find anchoring your thumb vs. Bouncing it to have some advantage with control or muting.
The technique where the thumb on sits the string below is called a rest stroke, the technique where the thumb bounces is called a bounce stroke.
The rest stroke has more future. U can learn double thumb later and add that to ur arsenal and u can mute with ur fretting hand
I really like this. I feel like a lot of tutorials/ lessons skip these basics.
Can’t forget about the basics!
Super good explained

I need to practice the 5th exercise. Also, a good book to play bass slap is Stuart Clayton’s Ultimate Slapbook, very fun!!!
