Like most of Pink Floyd you always have to remind yourself how long ago this was made and it is still listened to today. It's how you know a band is Legendary.
When a 50+ year old album is still considered one of, if not thee, greatest albums still of all time. Look up how many weeks it stayed on the charts. Prepare to be shocked! hint, hint....nearly 19 years straight.
Money was the first (recorded) use of sax by Pink Floyd. Came as a huge surprise to those of us who had already been following them for a few years. Fitted just perfectly.
Everybody on the absolute top of their game in this one - David on guitar and lead vocal, Roger on bass, Nick on drums, Richard on Keyboard, Dick Parry on sax. The 7/8 beat gives it a unique extra kick, then switches to an upbeat 4/4 interlude with one of David's all-time best guitar solos, then back again. Just an absolute banger. One of the few times PF recorded a song meant to gain wide radio airplay, which it certainly did and still does. The next song is Us and Them. Love all your PF reactions, please keep it up!
I'll explain David Gilmour's style. Guitar Magazine back in the mid - late 90s wrote: David Gilmour is The Undisputed Dean Of The Compound Bend and has practically Perfect Note Placement. His solos are not technically difficult Note wise, but to be able to bend and release is difficult to mirror. David Gilmour said, not verbatim as I'll try to explain, that he plays his solos, mainly, as if like an Opera Singer. Play a note and bend it in certain ways and shake it like an Opera Singer. Dave Mustaine of Megadeth said, David Gilmour can take one note and bend it in so many ways where many other guitarists have to use the entire fretboard to do so. Something along those lines. About David Gilmour's mouth movement as he plays is because he is actually singing in his mind and actually moves his mouth muscles as if he were singing it and then relays it to his fingers in order to achieve the sound and or sounds he is wanting to make and or perform. For example, studies have shown that when a person is annunciating a word or words in their mind their trachea and larynx, maybe just larynx, moves as if talking. A great example of David Gilmour singing the notes that he is playing is in the song, (Best Acoustic Song Ever) Wish You Were Here short solos. I was 15 years old when the Pulse Tour was happening and I heard a commercial for it. When I heard the voice of David Gilmour sing, in the advertisement, "Ticking Away The Moments That Make Up A Dull Day...." I thought, WHAT THE HELL? I went out and bought The Dark Side of The Moon Album. I just went straight to the song Time. "Money", Should never have become something we needed to survive! It was intended to be for things that we couldn't trade or barter for, so we could still get something that we wanted...not needed. Our daily needs should be shared, traded , bartered, even given outright to all! Skills, trades, knowledge, we all have things that others can't do to be useful and helpful to others that can do things we cannot. This is the track that got me hooked to Pink Floyd in 1973. I was staying at my sister's house in London while undergoing procedure to join the British army - I was 17. A radio station played it - I think it was Radio London, a fantastic station in those days - and I immediately went to the local record shop and bought the album. I have been a great fan of the band ever since ❤❤❤😂
It's the LOVE OF MONEY that is the root of all evil, so use it to bless people and do good with it. Also, the way the sax solo goes into a guitar solo is insane, the creativity was off the charts with this song and this whole album.
As a paid recording engineer, this is one of the most underrated engineers/producers of all time !!! Alan Parson is 1 of the # 1 of the greats! The clash register sequence was recorded in a clock store, setting each individually. The entire album was recorded in surround sound or 4D before its time , some may refer to it as "Quadraphonic
Can tell you're a true convert. Head bob, dancing in your chair... Feel it all the way down to your toes! Welcome to the world I've experienced for over 50 years!
The switch from the 7 to 4 for the guitar solo is something that "just happened" according to Rick Wright in the documentary they did for the DSOTM episode of Classic Albums. Magical. The bass line was originally going to be much slower and more 'bluesy', but it morphed in to this brilliant piece of music.
I was just putting some miles on the treadmill while watching your former Pink Floyd reaction and this song came like a gift. I enjoy your reactions immensely! You are the perfect match for Pink Floyd IMO! Hope you're having a great day!!!

You can listen over and over and hear an instrument you missed the last 100 times! Every instrument is on either the right or left side and then the middle as well so it sounds like instruments all over the place in your head! Keyboards are very underrated, Rick was ON HIS GAME!
Please don't apologize, Stacey. It's wonderful watching you experience this work of art piecemeal. Yes, when you're ready to do a full album listen, you're appreciation of it will increase. But any reaction you post is a treat! 😃
My friend John came by my house one day early in 1973 with this album. We had by then already heard Money on the radio (FM, of course), and so he bought it the first day Scotti's record shop got it. My mom was out so we sparked up, dropped the record on my turntable, and proceeded to listen to it end to end over and over. Love that you're loving it Stacey, your bona fide reactions are a treat so thank you for sharing!
This is Pink Floyd's best and they are great musicians. Always overlooked is the outstanding recording engineer who gave this album it's iconic sound. Alan Parsons and he went on to create his own outstanding music to this day. Check him out.
According to IFPI Global Album sales, Taylor Swift had the top 3, Travis Scott was 4th and 5th was Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" with sales of 402K. Think about that, we're talking about a record produced over a HALF CENTURY ago.
Roger Waters recorded all the sound effects and took the tape and ran it around the recording studio on stands to make a loop. And this was 50 years ago. Nobody makes music this good anymore. Pink Floyd rocks
Wasn't it Alan Parson who was heavily involved in creating the special effects? Especially for the quadraphonic effects of the money moving around the room!
1984. Michigan international speedway. My brother and i flew to Detroit and drove to the track. Arriving in the area around 2 am we were lost. While pulled over looking at a map we heard the opening notes to Money. We followed the sound until suddenly we found the campground outside the track. It was a group of Canadians drunk as hell blasting Pink Floyd from a huge amplifier and a crowd of at least 80 people hanging out partying. What a great time all weekend with those guys
Just got tickets for Gilmours Brighton show here in the UK this Saturday. Driving 6 hours down the country and 6 back home just to see him play his guitar. The GOAT!
Also props to Nick Mason, terrific drumming on this one! They toured the music from this album almost a year before it was released.......it was originally called Eclipse.
The background voices on this album came from a series of questions that Roger Waters ( bass, vocals ) asked the crew involved in the recording. Questions like “ when was the last time you were violent? “ and “ were you in the right? “I dunno I was drunk at the time …
The answer “I was drunk at the time” came from Wings guitarist Henry McCullough. Unfortunately, a supposed response from Paul McCartney didn't make it onto the album.
Pink Floyd is an experience you won’t get from any other singer/band. David Gilmour is a genius, one of the best in the history of all music. I really enjoy your reactions by the way 👍🏻
Hi Stacey. You said you wish that Money would keep going (longer). Check out the PULSE live version of Money: your wish will be granted in a beautiful way.
Hi Stacey. Definitely enjoying your reactions as you journey through this amazing band. Even after all their albums if you are feeling the need for more, each band member has multiple solo albums as well, and I highly recommend them as well if you ever wish to. Sending best wishes to you, and I look forward to your next video. 🌸😊
I like your disclaimer that you will get around eventually to listening to their works from beginning to end as their intended "concept album". It makes me appreciate the dilemma of not really being able to do that, until you have done the first time reaction to select songs. I really enjoy the format you have come up with in your reaction videos with just a few short interruptions and then most of your commentary at the end. I think it is a perfect balance.
I bought this album back when it came out, my freshman year of high school. I've owned multiple copies of it on different formats over the past 51 years. My favorite, aside from the original vinyl. Is my Super Audio Compact Disc of the Original Master Recording, as I can listen to it with no interruptions from beginning to end. The live version from the Pulse concert is amazing.
Great example of how the entire album of Dark Side of the Moon is a concept album by the way of using the sound of effects of the coins and cash registers in the intro, which were real sounds. It's a song about having money and all the benefits of it, but along with the warning of the trappings and evils that can come with it. And yes, that bass-line just adds to the hook and puts it on another level. You are definitely getting what Pink Floyd is all about and can't wait for you to do more of their other songs and albums.
Ya know when I first heard this album 50 + years ago I think I was with some friends smoking pot and we had no idea what the songs were about. We just loved the music. Happy I got sober later and realized how great the lyrics are. I own this album today. Pink floyd is my favorite band from the 60's and 70's. They are unique and unmistakable in their sound
"The Dark Side of the Moon" album has now been on the Billboard magazine charts for over 1,000 (yes, you read that right - one THOUSAND) weeks! That is a record that NO other album could ever HOPE to break! Just yet another reason to listen to the album in its entirety! 😊
Great reaction. One thing not too many people notice about this song is that the main parts are in the time signature of 7/4. The guitar solo is in 4/4, then the song goes back to 7/4, and the odd time signature is hidden masterfully with the bass and drum pulse underneath everything. Another masterpiece from Pink Floyd. :)
Great reaction, great song and all time classic album, seen them twice back in the day and going to see Nick Mason (Floyd's drummer) in 2 weeks playing pre DSOTM stuff such as Echoes and Set the controls for the heart of the sun, It goes into Them and Us and you have reacted to it, this is why you need to listen to the albums but don't worry to much about that, just enjoy how good they were😁 This album is now over 51 years old.
One of the few songs of Pink Floyd that always comes to mind when I think of them. I first thought he sung "Money, it's aghast" but it sounded more like "Money, it's a guess." Nice reaction to this timeless classic Stacey. Please don't forget to do their hit "Welcome To The Machine." It's one of my favorites. I suggest a new band for you called Saga (from Canada) and the first song I'd like for you to react to is "On The Loose" then please do "The Flyer" I think you'll really enjoy these ones. Thanks! For a female vocalist from Australia, I suggest Sharon O' Neill with her song "Maxine."
Always lived the funky groove of Money. Congrats Stacey you entered another level of Pink Floyd. Hmmm I don't know I was really drunk at the time...😊😂❤
I can remember sitting in my friends car in 1973, drinking beer and smoking a little weed and spacing out to Dark Side of the moon. Today the song Time really hits home now that I am in my 70's.
In this day where everyone uses 'samplers', sometimes even too much, it is easy to overlook how absurdly revolutionary it was to build a beat (in 7/4 time signature, no less) using recordings of 'cash sounds'. PF pioneered this kind of stuff, and they had to work magic in recording studios that simply weren't equipped to mix more than 8 tracks. I gave you a preemptive like, and as you always do, you immediately got the song. Great reaction again 😉
This was the very first Pink Floyd song I ever heard. That’s it was in the Top 40 on the radio when I was in junior high school aka middle school back in 1973-74. They had top selling albums, but rarely had a song in the Top 40. That was a young David Gilmour singing, and that was his guitar solo of course. Roger Waters was jamming on the bass, Richard Wright was creating beautiful keyboard and synthesizer sounds, and Nick Mason was playing a great rhythm on the drums. Roger Waters made the cash register sounds.
When you finally listen to the whole Dark side of the Moon album, you can break it into two parts; side one starts with "Speak to Me" and ends with "The Great Gig in the Sky" and side two that begins with ""Money" and ends with "Eclipse."
The great thing about the bass line is that it fully spans the 7/4 measures. It is not a measure of 4 and then a measure of 3. I once heard Bert Bacharach on the radio talking about his song "I Say a Little Prayer for You." He was personally involved in the production of Dionne Warwick's version. Later Aretha Franklin did a version that Bert said was better but he did not know why. The song was in 5/4 time but Bert said it was really a measure of 3 and then a measure of 2. Both versions were played and I instantly knew why Aretha's version was better. Bert's version had measures of 3 followed by measures of 2 while Aretha's had measure of 5. That made Aretha,s version really catchy rather than choppy. The Floyd played that song with solid measures of 7 and even though I suspect most people don't realize that it is 7/4 time, the feel of the song is greatly influenced by the time signature. The change to 4/4 really propels the instrumental part, too.
DSOTM was the very first CD I ever bought, after laying down about $300 for a CD player in 1984! I have no idea how many times I've listened to it, and all the songs on it - it must be in the thousands of repetitions by now 40 years later... love your reactions to all PF songs (and Rush, and...) Keep it up!
I completely understand that you need to react to each song individually before reacting to the whole album. If you were to react to the whole album first, you would have to do pauses for copyright and then do the after-listen breakdowns after each song and it would get way too long to put into one video. It seems many commentators don't understand this, but I get it. Keep doing what you're doing Stacey, you're doing just fine. Love your reactions and the fact that you're a huge Pink Floyd fan already shows you have great taste in music.
IM GONNA YELL AT YOU TO LIATEN TO THE WHOLE ALBUM ANYWAYS! But in all honesty, Pink Floyd's music really shines when you do a whole album listen. Not many bands can pull off such perfect transitions like them. Also, in case you didn't notice, this song was entirely in 7/4 time signature, except for the guitar solo section in the middle. Being able to make such a groovy song in such a unique time signature is something else
This album is one of the greatest albums of all time. Every note every lyric every aspect... In the beauty of it the more age and the more life experience you have, the more meaning the album will have to you.
OKAY, if you're into Pink Floyd, don't miss their first two tracks from the album "The Wall." 'In The flesh" and "The Thin Ice," will give you chill bumps. I liked these songs for years until I listened to the lyrics for the first time, then I loved them. They are very short but very powerful, and classic Pink Floyd.
This was recorded over 50 years ago for goodness sake! It's amazing to think how long Pink Floyd have been part of the fabric of popular music. Truly one of the all time great bands.
HELLO FELLOW FLOYDIAN!!!! I HEARD THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY MOMS CAR WAY WAY BACK IN THE DAY I HAD NO IDEA THIS WAS FLOYD BUT I AM 60 NOW SO THE FIRST SONG I KNEW WAS FLOYD WAS ONE OF THESE DAYS WOW!!!
Did you notice the time signature change before the solo? The 7/8 time that's present at the start and throughout most of the song changes to 4/4 for David. He just couldn't solo over 7/8. A little fun fact. Cheers!

We thought Meddle was as good as it got, then Dark Side showed up.
There lots of great bands just as good today.
@@wito609 You're absolutely correct! Alan mixed this entire album!!!
@@paulcollins5586lmao no , there’s not.
Groovy! Outasight! That was the 70's musically. I knew you'd enjoy this one. Yep, it runs into "Us and Them".
Another great song!!!
Wow what a beautiful reaction. Lunch time in Jakarta and I can listen to Pink Floyd with a beautiful lady.
This song is expanded and improved in the Pulse concert version. I highly recommend it.
The live Pulse concert version of Money is awesome and you can see the bass player and group interacting.
This crazy world lately almost gets me down then I watch you react to a song I first heard many decades ago...
Pink Floyd makes everything better.
This was the big hit "single" on the dark side of the Moon album. Probably Pink Floyd's biggest hit single ever.
Actually Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 was their biggest single reaching #1 on the billboard charts.
Very good song!!! AND very good reaction!!!!🎸Pink Floyd 1 de las bandas más influyentes alll. Time !!! SDS desde Chile 🇨🇱 preciosa 🎸🤩
Imagine I was 17 when this came out ! 68 now and I still love this entire album .
Hi Stacey. Definitely enjoying your reactions as you journey through this amazing band. Even after all their albums if you are feeling the need for more, each band member has multiple solo albums as well, and I highly recommend them as well if you ever wish to.
Sending best wishes to you, and I look forward to your next video. 🌸😊
Saw Pink Floyd, back in '87 ! They did this entire album !
The live version, at the PULSE concert is EPIC!
Great reaction - dig that bass! For the record, the song transition at the end was “Us and Them.”
Pink Floyd isn't just music, it's an experience. ✌🏽🤘🏼
Anytime I see you have another reaction to PF, I jump all over as fast as you can say Go. Love that you love PF too.
As usual a brilliant summing-up of Money one of my favourites
🤣😂😅 It has been such a pleasure watching you become a Floyd fan, Stace 😊
Another awesome reaction from you. Thank you 😊🤗🙏🤘
Always lived the funky groove of Money. Congrats Stacey you entered another level of Pink Floyd. Hmmm I don't know I was really drunk at the time...😊😂❤
Nice one, Stacey! Pink Floyd just keeps on giving. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
Ooh Stacy, don’t forget to react to Shine on you crazy diamond parts 6-9. You’ll love it !!
Saw PF in 1967 London "Roundhouse"...we went for the liquid light show....we left blitzed by the music!
Check out Atom heart mother album too.
The lifts from the bass are as important as the press ons. Truly a classic, as are all Floyd songs..
My favorite song at 15 years old
1974 was the peak of rock music
A good choice for today. One of their best songs. Maybe Welcome to the machine next time.
Stacey, keep up the good work. Us Floyd fanatics are a different breed. Really enjoy your other content. Gilmour does an awesome live version. Cheers!
This is my favorite Pink Floyd song.
You have heard the sentence “New car, caviar, four star daydream. Think i’ll buy me a football l team” before. It’s read by the teacher in The Wall.
Pinkfloyd's Make life an art rather than Art from life
This was recorded over 50 years ago for goodness sake!
Apparently my oldest brother used to play Meddle to me while i was still in utero.
It worked, Floyd is my favourite band. 😆
WHY ARE YOU YELLING?!?!?
@@module79l28 CUZ THATS WHY
One of the few times an old cash register was used as an instrument...if not the only time.
Real musicians creating legendary music that moves deep in your being. It’s not like that crap they call music today.
My all time favorite floyd tune .😊rock on!
This is a bass line that Roger actually wrote! One of the first bass lines i learned when i first started playing bass
Yes but the take on the record was played by dave.
@@paulcollins5586 That’s true
@paulcollins5586 no it's not its Roger playing.
Did you notice the time signature change before the solo? The 7/8 time that's present at the start and throughout most of the song changes to 4/4 for David. He just couldn't solo over 7/8. A little fun fact. Cheers!
