Oh my gosh. There was an all metal eyeliner pencil sharpener that I used to buy back in the day. Never broke, never went dull, was very small for travel size. Hands down the best sharpner ever made.

Every time I use a normal sharpener I end up with a stub of an eyeliner before it stops snapping 😅 idk why but a normal one makes the eyeliner snap and go all raggedy and awkward and by the time I get any decent nib on the liner it's like a tiny little stubby thing and I've used new sharpeners, old sharpeners, expensive eyeliners, cheap eyeliners it makes no difference lol but using a "makeup" sharpener, no issues at all!

They are exactly the same you just need to use one specifically for lip liners/ eyeliner and don’t sharpen regular pencils with the same one. To be fair I got the same elf one like 8 years ago and it’s still going strong for $1 so it was a win lol

So it depends on how soft / malleable the product is but, if it’s a fairly solid, pigmented pencil liner those average pencil sharpeners may work better. The ones you find made specifically for makeup are helpful to gently shape your products without breaking or wasting them, but they’re often also more breakable sharpeners bc of that. It’s usually not worth the up pricing 🤷♀️
advice: make the time to run to an art supply store to grab a pencil sharpener! always go for the ones with blades made in germany (it will say it on the blade). i don’t know why they’re the best, but they are! they’re not more expensive but they are better quality. source: am an artist who also wears eyeliner

ALWAYS use separate sharpeners for pencils, eye/lipliners, and colored pencils! The wax from colored pencils isn't recommended to be used for cosmetics, so you don't want to mix the waxes between eyeliner and colored pencils. You don't want to use colored pencils sharpener or eyeliner sharpener for pencils, because the blade will be too waxy and slippery to really sharpen it properly.
They're with all of the basic makeup/ grooming supplies (nail clippers, eye lash curlers, tweezers, etc ) usually super close to the front entrance (at CVS) on the makeup wall - maybe the 1st to 3rd panel of stuff... I don't even wear makeup & I know that much 😂

On your lip liner or eyeliner if you can adjust the height of it then the end without product comes off and it’s a built in sharpener . If you wash it you can use it on all you products that don’t have a sharpener built in
also put the pencil in the fridge for a little to let the product not be as soft, it‘ll sharpen a lot better, esp if u live in warmer areas personally when i sharpen then without cooling them off they break quickly and they don’t rlly get as sharp

Yeah, I worked at a similar store for a long time and one of the fun pieces of information I left with that probably replaced a core memory in the trauma of achieving recognition was that you have to know what brand your sharpener is. All cosmetics are sorted by brand and eye level is going to be what the brand wants to promote. Since a sharpener is maintenance and actually makes the already outrageous price tag drug store makeup brands decide to charge actually a little more worth it, you're gonna want to look near the very bottom and toward the back. Like on your hands and knees bottom, because those shelves are designed to hold as many large but empty packages as humanly possible, much to the sacrifice of some worker's arms following a piece of paper telling them precisely how many cardboard cuts to feed the wall.
The main difference is the angle of the blade. You CAN sharpen your makeup pens with a regular sharpener but because the tip is so soft, you'll most likely just have it fall off in the regular sharpener. You need that wider angle.

If you are an art major tho, a pencil sharpener for like art grade colored pencils/ charcole pencils is v close to the same angle and will also work

Omg! I have a hack if your lip liner has a little colour in the bottom you can actually pull it and it is a pencil sharpener idk if this is in all lip liners but it is in mine.
The difference is the size of sharpened tip. Regular pencils have a longer portion sharpened with a long tip because the carbon can handle it. But makeup pencils are creamier or softer and they just dont hold on. Makeup pencil sharpeners have a much smaller tip. It is still sharp but this is the difference. You can try comparing if you want to.
I'm speechless. I didn't know I could sharpen my color pop lip liner. I thought the casing was plastic 😓. I think I tossed the one I broke during the first use. Thank you for saving my black lip pencil!
Even some of the plastic ones are able to be sharpened but I would check with the manufacturer about that. The only way I found out was Nars and another company does this and I accidentally sharpened a lipstick pencil because it had no way of twisting it. I looked online and come to find out they are able to be sharpened.
I normally go to the "kids makeup" section Ya know the entry level makeup They normally have a few sharpener options Or get a pencil with a lid sharpener But this is why i prefer the twisty pencils
If you want a good pencil sharpener go to an art supply store, and by yourself a small one made of all metal, they stay sharp and unless your using cheap products will rarely break off anything inside
A knife is better. Because lip liners are softer, so they tend to break easily. So when you knife it out, do only 2 sides of a triangle. Imagine there are three points, and you only shave off mostly 2 points. This makes the liner more stable and last you longer. 😊

Yes. The angle is different. The exposed tip is much shorter with a makeup sharpener, and your pencil lasts much longer.

If you want a good pencil sharpener go to an art supply store, and by yourself a small one made of all metal, they stay sharp and unless your using cheap products will rarely break off anything inside
A knife is better. Because lip liners are softer, so they tend to break easily. So when you knife it out, do only 2 sides of a triangle. Imagine there are three points, and you only shave off mostly 2 points. This makes the liner more stable and last you longer. 😊

Btw i have a cosmetic pencil sharpener and a normal one. Ive used them both 4 my lip luner but the cosmetic one works way better. The blade is way higher quality. Btw i live ur vids tysm 4 making them!!!❤❤❤
I think the ones for makeup make the pencil not as pointy bc the material is softer and will break easier of the tip is longer.
Also the make up ones usually have a tiny hidden stick to clean the gunk off the blade
In india we used to get lip liners with a sharpener IN THE CAP.. my mom had tons of these.. but I can't find even one like that anymore... it was perfect!
For some lip liners on the bottom where it shows the color take that out and theres a sharpener
