I know this is a late comment but maybe it helps someone as late to the party as I was. 1. Selling prices are not affected by faction standing and system. You get the same amount of C-Bills everywhere. 2. Pad your Mechs against taking crits as much as possible, you do that by spreading the heat sinks around. Always put some in those areas of your MEchs that carry the most valuable weapons. Short explanation: when you loose all armour in one area, further hits to that area will damage the structure, every hit has a chance to destroy a component = that is a crit. To mitigate the risk, put heat sinks in there so that in case you take a crit it hopefully destroies the heatsink and not the weapon. 3. Put the ammo in your legs, they have more armour and normally don't get shot that much. NEVER, but it in the center or side torso. 4. Try to avoind pissing of the Great Houses too much. They are the once selling you stuff so keep them happy. If you have to fight a House continuously, fight Liao (the green folks), as they are the smallest house and have the least useful Industrial Hubs. 5. Heat management is far easier if you build Mechs with 2 or more heat dissipation per second. That also bumps your heat banking potential (the amount of heat that will dissipate instantly with no build-up) significantly. 6. Consider firing lasers in smaller groups with brief pauses in between instead of all at once. Most smaler targets don't need that much damage to take them out and the less heat per second you build up, the faster it will be dissipated. 7. Especially the Gasshopper 5H benefits greatly from swapping the PPC for a Large Laser, the LRM5 for a SRM4 and use the tonnage for heatsinks. That way, the 5H is focused on mid-close range and the damage output is higher while heat is lower. 1 PPC and 1 LRM5 is not enough to put damage down range. The stock build tries to be an allrounder while not having the hardpoints and tonnage for it.
29:09 I discovered you can change the mechs from one mission to another in a multi-mission operation. That's why I try to keep 2 lances worth of mechs. If there are 3 or more missions in the op, you can even repair (minor problems, like replace armor and minor structural damage) in between the missions. Just check the mission duration on the contract screen and do not exceed it when ordering a refit. After you return from mission 2, mechs damaged in mission 1 should be ready and waiting for mission 3. Just don't take multi-mission ops in systems with +300% refit prices or similar insulting conditions.
Yeah and he still has yet to figure this out. Especially since he has other mechs that could have been better for one mission over the others. But he will claim "I'm still learning all the stuff I can do..." All cause he will not slow down and try to do things. I mean, come on, what if he lost a mech he'd probably try to run the second mission with only 3 mechs. LOL
@@Cenot4ph they give boosted salvage, c-bills etc though. And you get a payout for each mission. So if you have mechs you can swap in for the damaged ones then there's really no reason not to do them.
You can also abandon them with relatively little penalty, just a small hit to your standing with the faction and not getting the end-of-chain bonus reward. You get to keep everything you earned from the missions you did complete.
My biggest difficulty spike in the game (so far) was when I started getting into the 50-60 difficulty rating missions for the first time. It actually got a bit easier again after that, as the mechs and pilots are getting better and better, and also, my play style keeps changing to keep up with the threats. Learning to use the "hold position" command properly and making sure your lancemates don't run straight into 20 tanks supported by flyers and turrets and a full heavy lance at once. Finding chokepoints on the map and using them really works. I think this game is challenging, but not in a bad way.
Also calling targets effectively, I usually take out tanks copters ect while my lance focus on 1 mech otherwise you can literally see them being overwhelmed in a target rich environment/ all shooting at 1 tank etc
The AI is just awful and loves to act as a meat shield for you, it just happens to be the Cent most of the time as I believe it's the 4th bay that tends to go that position.
you really should start paying attention to refit prices in warzones, they go 300% markup and you are losing 300k on refitting lowly shadowhawk. That price can skyrocket to millions later on when you tinker with something like Atlas
Yah. I don't think he has noticed that he can travel to a industrial and back in less time and money then repairing in system. *EDIT and selling mechs that he needed the parts off of keeps making me cringe.
My question is: how are you getting consistent long range combat when the enemies spawn on your back? I feel like autocannons are the only weapons that can keep up with this crazy game.
The Awesome has been a complete game-changer for me. The 3 PPCs are devastating and give excellent pinpoint damage. It takes time to get used to the velocity but the learning curve is worth it.
See what I mean about offscreen spawning? The amount of time i've taking full salvo's to the back from something that just poped out of the ground is insane.
So I picked up a Hunchback-4P quite early, the AI is a bit terrible with it. For some reason I was having to replace lasers and heat sinks after every mission. But when I ran it myself, oh my god the damage you can do with that many medium lasers. I actually fit the torso pod with the M lasers, two S lasers in the arms and a flamer in the head and it was enough. Decked out with a lot of heat management and the rest into armour it's a formidable beast.
27:20 Baradul never forgot that VTOL from the tutorial. If you noticed, standing affects purchases. Assassin would sell for 1.526 million in Liao space with a 5% markup on purchases, sold for 1.526 million in Davion space with 25% discount on purchases. Since you aren't "purchasing" but rather selling... Also, should have bought the JAV-HT. It has endo-steel(invisible), an XL engine(also invisible), and 3 DHS(can be stripped). They're the stock builds from MWO, and the HT isn't bad when most mechs are std armor, std structure, SHS, std engine. It's like the hammer of god for lights(TDK isn't bad either, but TDK trades the 2 SRM6s for about 20 KPH)
if you have a full lance of mechs with only long range weapons (PPC, LRM, Gauss, AC/5, etc) you can be really effective at keeping the enemy at far range and allow you to take minimal damage on raid and assassination contracts
I think the slower more careful playstyle will serve you better in the long run. Take your time and have fun. I'll be watching the whole time no matter what.
I kinda like the PPCs but you certainly pay in DPS when you miss. Sitting back and picking off targets at range is how I prefer to use them, send my brawlers in to engage and slap them with a PPC or two. Then again, Catapult K2 is still one of my favourite mechs :)
Had a windfall when a high value mission gave me 4 fully upgraded PPC and I found an cockpitted awesome 8q for sale for cheap. The awesome proceeded to delete mechs left and right. Currently the 4th ppc in the CT of the grasshopper escorting the awesome and I hope to find a kaiju soon to run all 4 ppcs
PPCs in Mech 4 and 3 were nice. In 5 (not played but watched) they seem to have a disruption effect don't remember ever having prior. Tabletop they are devastating as well. As others have said, it's a huge hit to your damage if you miss cause it's an "all in" type of weapon unlike the ballistics it's being compared to.
If you have two full lances of 'mechs, you can bring one lance to mission 1, do it, swap to your 2nd lance, do that mission, then repair 'em all as you fly to the next system.
I wasn't sold on PPCs till I played a Banshee 3S. after that I had lots of fun, and eventually picked up a Marauder II and loaded it with 3x ER PPCs. The endurance in extended missions combined with range more than makes up for the reduced dps from relying on energy for primary weapons.
Baradul, that LRM Trebuchet is NOT doing you any favours man. Swap it out for a ballistic support or another brawler (hardly any fights in this game are at range, and the AI doesn't seem smart enough to fight at range).
I had some luck in my campaign and got the Grasshopper 5P. 2x PPC, 4x MPL and DHS....quite a beast. I'm having fun with my dual PPC mechs like the Grasshopper, K2 or Warhammer. But you really need backup weapons to deal with the tanks and turrets.
Hunchback 4P would have been soo awesome, so far we didnt get to see a pure energy mech =( but its ok, u are a Dakka Boy, not a Pep Boy, and we enjoy see u dakka away ^^
Loving your content Baradul. Just got into Battletech and will be playing MW5 at some point too. I think game developers in this Mech universe need to start adding pilot portraits with your beard style.
i like when you play the grasshopper! mess with the build a bit more. :) (helpful hint*) try to keep your back to your wall. :) keep up the great content!
You'll want that HBK-4P. It's a vehicle and turret killing machine. Run 3, 3, 2 (arms) weapon groups and you won't have to worry about heat that often.
So been enjoying watching your playthrough, personally I like PPC's though I tend to like them on Vindicators or Panthers, light fast mechs that can harass enemies.
Switching from Jaegermechs to Grasshoppers was the best thing I could have done in my game. The 4 medium 1 large alpha strike one shots a lot of lights and just gets them off the board. I was doing 1 Grasshopper 2 jaeger, but am doing 2 grasshopper 1 dragon now, and it is a much better composition and I am not constantly replacing ballistics. Also, being able to jump and burn when an ally decided that directly in front of you is the best place to stop and fire is very useful.
You talking about when you use it? Because my lancemates always come back with just a shell of their mechs (with meh kills) and I have a pilot that has 7 laser skill and 6 skill on both avoidance skills. It seems certain type mechs are damage magnets and all of my Hunchbacks seem to be those magnets.
@@sorcyclone ok good to know. I'm getting past the point of the 50 ton class but next play through I will keep it as an option for my own mech. Surprisingly the Rifleman is kicking it for me with max armor, duel ac/5-BF, one large laser, 3med lasers. it runs a little hot but I use my large laser as a back up to the fast firing ac/5-BF's and not the primary and it runs cool.
love your vids , its nice to see how you take a completely different mech choice as i picked, Guess that also makes your vids a bit more appealing. little tip if you get close to the planet Terra drop by and have a look. managed to find a 40+ skill pilot there.
I have salvaged 3 different hunchbacks. I don't remember designations, but I set up 1 with tier 3 AC20, 2 meds, 1small laser. Another with AC10 tier 3, 4 med lasers, and a small laser. And the one you saw I. The shop, with all my tier 2 medium lasers in it. Going to need to get some double heat sinks for it. Also got a kintaro-19. I have found that the srm4s have much betterAnd more consistent spreads vs srm6's
I love ppc's but not in a single shot build. the LL/ML combo makes more sense to me. I liked your play in the Jaeger better, you seemed more natural in it. Look forward to the video dude!
Yes i do love ppc its my favorite energy weapon and combo it with pulse lasers i can run right in and crit everything in my way with nearly no damage unless I'm feeling like a ppc sniper
PPC is for a longer range sniper build some like that some don't they do the job they are designed to do. The advantage over auto cannons is ammo for lights or missions where you don't get a good chance to get more ammo.
That HT Javelin is awesome. On 200-220 ton missions it lets me take three bigger mechs and the Javelin. Those srm 6's get more damage for the javelin then any other mech but mine.
God i love the grasshopper. Used to just run med and large lasers and just beam EVERYTHING. Heat was a bitch but god damn it was fun to litterally melt mechs. I would recommend no pcc. It keeps you too far to use your meds. Brawl lasers is the way to go. Also, FIND A FREAKING CATAPULT ♡ another mech favorite of mine ♡♡♡
Baradul, I just played a raid mission with a max drop tonnage of 230 using a single locust. Highly recommended you giving it a try for something different, super fun.
Yay! I won the final story mission (difficulty 100)! I won't spoil anything, but I can say it was difficult towards the end. Now, I am in free play and am taking random contracts, while looking for the mechs I am missing in my collection. And ofcourse, always collecting better lazors!
You need a kintaro. They are great SRM boats. I’ve got mine outfitted with 2 ASRM6, 1 ASRM4, and 2 medium lasers. It runs hot, but if you lay off the mediums it is manageable. It is murder on legs in a brawl!
You can change out the mechs between missions on the multimissions. If there are more than two, you can actually repair some mechs during the second mission.
You get critical explosions by destroying the center torso. Get a thunderbolt with high mounted medium lasers and aim for cockpits for fast kills and good salvage chances.
Grasshopper is a good Mech for commander: Long range weapons - check, jumpjets and normal speed - check, medium lasers - check, lot of armor and structure - check
I like ER L lasers, your issue is that you lead with your face, and the grasshopper is a sit back mech, with enough m lasers to murder light mechs. So PPC until the target is red, then look for crits with the LRMs
The hero javelin HT was my first hero mech, i sold everything to get it, and it carried me to the high 30s missions. Don't under estimate srms especially if you get t3 or t4 versions
I think some great missions could be testing out new Mechs that were coming out around when this game takes place, new ones fresh from the factory and getting either a chance to buy them or steal them.
Sitting in my all medium lance unable to afford heavies at reputation 8 yet seeing difficulty 55 in my missions caused me some moments of humor in this video.
I LOVE PPC's a lot, more so in the battletech lore than in the games. I think they always look super cool in the games, but usually the velocity and the cooldown is too slow for me. However, I do love that long range punch it delivers, and the satisfaction when you hit something from max range with it.
Wonder if the will put any Mechs from the other Mech Warrior game in soon. Bushwacker, Uller, or Shadow Cat might be cool to see, and a good many others too.
PPCs - Yes. Sleepy Awesome-8Q anyone? maybe a sleepy Stalker? the ability to strip and slough 2-3 maybe 4 tons of armor off in a single strike..whats better than that? SRMs are great but the short range means if you can rip his face..he can do that same to you.
Yep but he goes through the menus so quick he doesnt even give himself time to think about it... Could drop an entirely fresh lance for the second mission if you have the mechs
Should have went large laser instead of ppc on the grasshopper. Slightly less up front damage but you get to fire more because less heat build up. On top of not having to lead lasers when aiming. Grasshopper are made for going after smaller mechs than it and the ppc really killed it imo. I'd like to see you try again with the large laser. I also feel like one of the ai pilots would be good for it.
machine guns are really good for demo mission if You get a mech that can have 4 of them at once they just tear though buildings so fast its kind of sick i always have light mech with machine guns on it just of demo missions
I've only found PPC's of use for very long range sniping. ER PPC's are even worse weirdly as they act as if they're Heavy Gauss Rifles from MWO and disrupt/jar your aim so its much harder to adjust aim.
Rare hunchback for 4 millions? That's a steal! I was able to get my rare hunchback with gauss and double heat sinks for 8 mils. Although gauss rifle (cannon?) is fantastic! One shot kills any armored vehicle and headshots have become a thing too!
I don't think you can run into brawl range and kill everything quickly later in the game. I did a couple of missions rated at 60+ difficulty and staying back to kill most of the OpFor before moving in is always safer and better.

My current fav heavy mech build is a WHM 6R with 2 tier 2 ppcs max armor 2 small pulse lasers and an srm6 Artemis. Thing shreds at all ranges.
I love ppc's but not in a single shot build. the LL/ML combo makes more sense to me. I liked your play in the Jaeger better, you seemed more natural in it. Look forward to the video dude!
I've been playing since mw2, always loved the ppc
Keep an eye out for the URBI K9, it comes with like 6 or 8 DBL heat sinks. they alone are worth the cost of buying it. :)
You're shooting your own guys as often as you shoot the enemies. :-O
58:49 engage emergency one-arm-push-up protocol !
That HT Javelin is awesome. On 200-220 ton missions it lets me take three bigger mechs and the Javelin. Those srm 6's get more damage for the javelin then any other mech but mine.
On an Assault Mech, the PPC games are tight! Especially ER PPC's and even better CLAN ER PPC's.
If i was making a game i would want to hire baradul. At least as a consultant.
I’d replace the PPC with the large laser.
As a grasshooper main from the MMO, i also recommend this. Grasshopper is a frontline brawling laser boi.
And the thing with ppc is the ai is probably not even affected by its disruption effect anyway. Llaser seems preferable.
Now imagine if Streaks were a thing.
You can change out the mechs between missions on the multimissions. If there are more than two, you can actually repair some mechs during the second mission.
You get critical explosions by destroying the center torso. Get a thunderbolt with high mounted medium lasers and aim for cockpits for fast kills and good salvage chances.
Baradul.... KINTARO with SMR's is a dam good Mech Killer with Shotguns.
Just takes out legs in no time, as long as you know how to manage heat.
Grasshopper is a good Mech for commander: Long range weapons - check, jumpjets and normal speed - check, medium lasers - check, lot of armor and structure - check
the thing is in this game the jump jets are a waste of tonnage. I always remove them in favor of better heat management or more armor
I like ER L lasers, your issue is that you lead with your face, and the grasshopper is a sit back mech, with enough m lasers to murder light mechs. So PPC until the target is red, then look for crits with the LRMs
59:00 looks like offed Buzz Lightyear's mech based on the colors.
Love the hopper. Maybe try a large laser.
Pulse lasers are rare, I chest mount mine if possible. Also keep mechs you do not intend to use in cold storage to save money on bills.
more of a ballistics fan (ALL THE AC-2s!) but what you really need is a Hatchet!
However, I do love that long range punch it delivers, and the satisfaction when you hit something from max range with it.
with a 2 or 3 part mission, can you sub out a spare fresh mech for a damaged one?
Yes
Yep but not in Baraduls head.
It's useful to have a spare lance to swap damage mech for fresh ones
You can use all 12 'Mechs in a 3 part mission if you want.
he might as well start pilloting a brawler due to how close he gets to enemy mechs anyways
Wonder if the will put any Mechs from the other Mech Warrior game in soon. Bushwacker, Uller, or Shadow Cat might be cool to see, and a good many others too.
I don't know what time this game takes place though. Before Clan wars or way after.
the game ends just before the clan invasion, so the stuff you listed will be dlc, i suppose.
@@quasadra yep or Modded in by others.
PPCs - Yes. Sleepy Awesome-8Q anyone? maybe a sleepy Stalker? the ability to strip and slough 2-3 maybe 4 tons of armor off in a single strike..whats better than that? SRMs are great but the short range means if you can rip his face..he can do that same to you.
Have you looked at the hero mechs? Alot of them come with double heat sinks. The urban mech k9 comes with 8!!
I thought the Atlas was nuts but the Jagger is pretty sweet!
Wait, couldn't you change your lance for the second drop? Take a mech other than the cent?
Yes, you can change mechs for the second drop. You just don't have time for repairs.
Yep but he goes through the menus so quick he doesnt even give himself time to think about it... Could drop an entirely fresh lance for the second mission if you have the mechs
Always great bro!!! :)
You can swap out mechs inbetween the multi missions btw
Yes
Should have went large laser instead of ppc on the grasshopper. Slightly less up front damage but you get to fire more because less heat build up. On top of not having to lead lasers when aiming. Grasshopper are made for going after smaller mechs than it and the ppc really killed it imo. I'd like to see you try again with the large laser. I also feel like one of the ai pilots would be good for it.
machine guns are really good for demo mission if You get a mech that can have 4 of them at once they just tear though buildings so fast its kind of sick i always have light mech with machine guns on it just of demo missions
The firestarter is great for that, pack it with flamers and you just melt the buildings.
I've only found PPC's of use for very long range sniping. ER PPC's are even worse weirdly as they act as if they're Heavy Gauss Rifles from MWO and disrupt/jar your aim so its much harder to adjust aim.
I didn't get jagermech, but I got a Rifleman on market,2AC5 2LL is awesome!
Rare hunchback for 4 millions? That's a steal! I was able to get my rare hunchback with gauss and double heat sinks for 8 mils. Although gauss rifle (cannon?) is fantastic! One shot kills any armored vehicle and headshots have become a thing too!
Oh, yes. I bought a HERO hunchback. Not just rare.
42:21 lol a planet called Zurich. i knew there was one called Luzern but... XD
I love PPCs as long as there clan weapons and Guass Cannons! You just need the right mech for the build.
Agreed. Nothing beats snipe killing enemy mechs with them.
Warhawk with four Peepers. Job done.
Baradu, u really should move ur video feed to the bottom center for these vids.
@Baradul, did you know you can select other mechs in your unit when starting the second mission in a multiple mission campaign?
I don't think you can run into brawl range and kill everything quickly later in the game. I did a couple of missions rated at 60+ difficulty and staying back to kill most of the OpFor before moving in is always safer and better.
Keep an eye out for markets that give multiple rares.. sometimes you pick up something for free
When i used to play mechwarrior i used to make ppc boats :)
Guy, you can change mechs before second mission. Not necessary drop to next mission on damaged ones.
