This song woke me up today as an Amazon Echo alarm. Never heard this gem before but the first thing I wanted to know this day was, who is singing this song. Brilliant.
Another great Survivor song with the great Jimi Jamison singing. One of the best voices ever. Happy Birthday to Jimi today, 8/23. He is finally being recognized and inducted into the Memphis Rock Hall of Fame on 10/12/2023. Simply an irreplaceable voice and deeply missed by his fans.
My wife and I were driving in the car snd we were listening to a 80s radio channel. This song came on and my wife outbursts: Ohh I just love Joey Lynn Turner's voice. I just pulled over and told her to walk home....
Honestly! How can one man be that beautiful AND oh, so very talented? ❤❤ Survivor was terribly underrated!! Jimi Jameson has one of the most unique voices, and he NEVER missed a note!! Gone way too soon!

Dude i feel the exact same way. I love Survivor and even Jimi's solo stuff but you're right it makes my heart ache listening knowing he's gone too soon.
Survivor never got the credit they deserved. This song is a perfect example. Amazing music, lyrics, singing and video. This is equally as epic as Journey's Faithfully
Whoaa, pump the brakes there Mike. This is a very good song but it doesnt really compare with Faithfully. First of all this song doesn't have a bridge, it is just a soft ballad that has the same melody thoughout. With Faithfully, there are three levels to it making it great musically. Journey is a better band than Survivor, however Jim has is a better vocalist than Steve Perry.
When Survivor's album "Too Hot to Sleep" was released in 1988, I immediately went out and bought the cassette...always loved their music....when I got to this song...I thought WOW....what an incredible song. It stayed with me all these years... like many songs do. It's always comforting when I listen to this song and Survivor. I miss those days and this band. Like an old friend. Jimi's voice is incredible. The song is incredible.
I used to remember my first love at school in the 7-th grade when I listen to this song. She had brown hair and deep hazel eyes. Her name is Mariah B. Best regards to her, if she's watchin'!
His voice was magical it lifted you up without any effort. This gift he had was given to few singers and the world was blessed to hear him sing. Missed is an understatement , I am in awe of him.Forever in our hearts RIP Jimi
So right Jimi and Survivor should be In The RR hall of fame. They are so underrated. I listen to today's music and it makes me so mad. A talent like Jimis goes unrecognized.
I agree. I am 21 years old and I love them, and classic rock so much. I just looked on social media to see how many people follow them and it was only 8,463 followers on Instagram, and 260k on Facebook. So sad! Why do people only know of, and love “Eye Of The Tiger”, and never think to search up all their other songs?! I like “Eye Of The Tiger” but I love all their other songs more. I say “like” because it’s not their absolute best song at all. It’s good but it’s extremely overrated with the majority of people. Survivor is my second most favorite classic rock band ever, after REO Speedwagon in the number one spot for me in my list of favorite classic rock bands. I hate how horribly unpopular Survivor is. They deserve better. More followers online. More fans. Breaks my heart. The underrated bands tend to be the best honestly. I was listening to Survivor on Spotify yesterday, and with every song that came on and played, it was automatically a great song. I did not hear not one bad song or any song I didn’t care for. They all sound so great!! I hate that underrated bands like Survivor are being forgotten so much these days in the 21st century. In the 2000 20’s especially. I’m going to continue to listen to Survivor and all these other great classic rock bands and will continue to talk to people about them, and share their music with others. I won’t let their music die off because of it being forgotten. Long live Survivor, REO Speedwagon, and others! Long live great classic rock and the amazing 80s era!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Jimi is amazing. I absolutely love him and can listen to him all day. I'm amazed at how many people don't know his name. Tragic. Love him. RIP sweet gorgeous man.
I not only love Jimi in Survivor, I love every single band he has been in since Target, Cobra, One Man's Trash, the numerous solo CDs with the most recent release of Jimmy Wayne Jamison CD In August 2024. (recorded 2008). They all showcase his versatility. He is irreplaceable!
This is a beautiful song sung by an amazing singer Jimi Jamison. You don't see this magnificent video played to often. I love this song Jimi sounds wonderful as always 😍💋🔥🔥🔥💕💕.
I was young back then in my 20s and that was my best time in life. I'm in my 60s almost 70 years old and I still think of days. With songs like this song make me miss 80s alot. But all I can do is remember!!!!
When I was a teenager in Baghdad, that was before the Gulf war I used to listen to this song and imagine that I am driving in the US. Why the US you asked, because the song was released there. I had big hopes and dreams for the future. Then the war happened in 1991 and things changed but I didn't give up. I graduated from the university and then embarked on a journey around the world. I lived in 5 countries and advanced my career in engineering. I ended up in Canada and made it home. One day I was driving from Vancouver to Seattle in my car and this song came on the radio. I instantly had tears in my eyes as all my previous life flashed in front of me. I remembered myself in my room with headphones on listening to 'Across the miles" In the end we are all the same. Music shape our lives. Peace and love to everyone!
It's a shame that we had to lose Jimi the way we did..Meth overdose. After all the people he touched with that voice for him to die like that, unheralded and forgotten is a crime. This band never got the respect it deserved, but i swear i will scream it in everyone's ears until they listen. Vital Signs is hands down one of the best albums of the entire decade. They got ripped off by crooked Scotti Brothers mafia jerkoffs. This album,Too Hot To Sleep, was never even promoted correctly and it's one of my favorite albums ever.
I saw Survivor open up for REO Speedwagon in February 1985. I wish I had seen them again before Jimi passed away. Awesome singer and band! Love you Jimi.
Across the miles what a beautiful song from their best album ever too hot to sleep. This album should have sold millions worldwide. Best aor rockalbum that I ever heard. This was survivor at their very best with this kind of album. Didn't get the respect they and this album deserves.
Heard it again this morning..was like an old dear friend calling to say hello..a reminder that we carry each other always with us...in our hearts and soul...across time and space..such a beautifull song..thanks guys..you made stallone hip..
This is one of the best. It doesn’t get any better than this. Every part of this song is just amazing. I get goose bumps each and every time I listen to this. This never gets old. I just can’t get enough of the vocals, or the guitar. Simply amazing! This is simply timeless. Unfortunately, music died with the 80s. I’d rather live in the 80s music than listening to the “absolute” garbage of today’s so-called music.
Try listening to Perfect Plan's song "In and Out of Love"; W.e.t.'s "Watch the Fire", "One Love"; Peterik's Pride of Lion's songs: "Interrupted Melody", Defying Gravity", "Are You the Same Girl", "Silent Music", etc .Also, Seventh Wonder's "Victorious" (Acoustic) and Halestorm's "Dear Daughter".
Some people have compared Perfect Plan's lead singers voice to Jimi Jamison and Lou Gramm. Others have compared it to other 70s and 80s singers that they liked. Perfect Plan also did a cover of Foreigner's song "That Was Yesterday" earlier this year. Regardless, Jim Peterik who co-wrote this song has put out a ton of songs in the past 20 years. In paticular, I suggest the song "Alive". Either Jimi Jamison's cover of it or the original southern rock Van Zant brothers version.
As a over the road trucker This son was in my iPad for miles after mile, the music was tilling me over and over be safe driving for the little lady at home waiting for you.🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞💎💎💎💎💎❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
So hard to believe you've been gone 4 year's already! I'm so glad I got to see Survivor in concert at Busch Garden's back in the 80's! Rip Jimi! Gone but never forgotten!
I remember listening to this song playing on my digital clock radio lying in bed in the mornings when it came out more than 30 years ago with the lights out. That quiet peace for a few minutes before you start your day. It makes me sad now. I had more of a future back then. Not so much now.
This might be Survivor's best song ever! And they wrote many great songs, but this one is really special. TOO HOT TO SLEEP is arguably Survivor's best album....certainly their best produced/sounding record for sure. What a shame that it never got the backing from Scotti Bros and CBS. I feel it has all of their best elements: strong songs, tasteful parts/performances, excellent production/sounds. When you compare and contrast anything from the 88/89 era, it stands the test of time with relative ease. Unfortunately, record label politics were involved due to Scotti Bros and CBS having disputes over money and distribution. As a result, the album never saw the light of day and was poorly promoted and distributed! And now you know why the Music Business truly sucks sometimes! Not long after this, the band went on hiatus and never quite recovered from the debacle.
THTS was a change in direction, a totally new Survivor so to speak. One of the most brilliantly produced rock albums of the era. Heavy metal guys respected it, took me a while to get into it, and it was a bummer to see it slip through the - record business - cracks.
Jimi's fantastic voice will echo down this wishing well in Desperate Dreams for eternity. Still missing him in August 25,2021. Happy belated Birthday Jimi Jamison forever ❣️😍🥰🥰🔥🔥😘😘💋💋.
watching this video of survivor, I think that sometimes they wasted the opportunity for us to appreciate that beautiful face of Jimi,😍 many times the videos were in black and white oh they were very dark, it's a shame they didn't make more color videos for us to appreciate that beautiful face!
When I'm all alone on a distant path And my ticket home has been torn in half Oh, I can hear your voice, girl I can feel your touch Across the miles tonight On the road again, will it always be That the dream gets changed on its way to reality Oh, but the thought of you, strange how it pulls me through Across the miles tonight And I am sending you this message through the wires tonight Just close your eyes and hold on tight And here I am, concentrating girl with all my might Now the sound of your laughter trails off through the midnight sky As the miles go by, cities come and go When you close your eyes and listen to the radio Girl, can you hear my song, the signal is clear and strong Across the miles tonight And I am sending you this message through the wires tonight Just close your eyes and hold on tight And here I am, concentrating girl with all my might Now the sound of your laughter trails off Across the miles
F**k Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame! Survivor needs no induction as recognition. The band will live forever in our hearts!! RIP Jimi Jamison, my personal favorite frontman❤❤❤❤!!

They were only underrated in the minds of the uninformed. In reality, they were composed of some of the best songwriters imaginable, and arguably the most fantastic voice of all times. Personally, it is no contest. From the first note, I ever heard him deliver, it resonated with perfection!
2:30 Looking back, I have traveled to 5 of the cities since that decade. That was a goal as I come from poverty. Interesting that the other 5 are also on my go to list.
Una canción y una escena musical de mi tiempo, espectacular , que decir? Los recuerdos , el pasado y un tiempo que no volverán los 80 años maravillosos que sé fueron demasiado rápido pero nos quedamos con esta música

@@crystalfreeman9295 yes. Still missing him in 2021 and always. 😓
semplicemente i numeri 1 in assoluto..nessuno farà mai più musica così
Jim Peterik! Your songs is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hauntingly beautiful song. Love Jimis voice.
Haunting is the word....yes.
The songs were great, and the voice is arguably the best of all times. Personally, I can’t imagine better! What a talent!
watching this video of survivor, I think that sometimes they wasted the opportunity for us to appreciate that beautiful face of Jimi,😍 many times the videos were in black and white oh they were very dark, it's a shame they didn't make more color videos for us to appreciate that beautiful face!
Underrated great romantic song rated right up there with Faithfully and Journey
Oh, the way music used to be. From the heart.
❤❤

Such a beautiful song! The lyrics...the vocals... Man they made such great music!
@DB Graves ohh mine too❤️
The best!
The absolute best!
When I'm all alone on a distant path
And my ticket home has been torn in half
Oh, I can hear your voice, girl I can feel your touch
Across the miles tonight
On the road again, will it always be
That the dream gets changed on its way to reality
Oh, but the thought of you, strange how it pulls me through
Across the miles tonight
And I am sending you this message through the wires tonight
Just close your eyes and hold on tight
And here I am, concentrating girl with all my might
Now the sound of your laughter trails off through the midnight sky
As the miles go by, cities come and go
When you close your eyes and listen to the radio
Girl, can you hear my song, the signal is clear and strong
Across the miles tonight
And I am sending you this message through the wires tonight
Just close your eyes and hold on tight
And here I am, concentrating girl with all my might
Now the sound of your laughter trails off
Across the miles
Thank you👍🏻
Thanks
Awesome Jimi ♡🎤💔
it's very hard not to cry
to this masterpiece 👍✌️
F**k Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame! Survivor needs no induction as recognition. The band will live forever in our hearts!! RIP Jimi Jamison, my personal favorite frontman❤❤❤❤!!
He is my favorite foreve too😧
This Should have been a huge hit
For The Band if had some airplay
Unfortunately music today has steered away from this kind of heartwrenching expression from deep down in one's soul. My favorite survivor song.
This is One of the Best Songs I have ever heard. I don't know what it is about it but I Cry every time I hear it?? I wish I knew the words to it?? If there is any one that knows them could you Please Share them for me?? Thank You So Much!!
Such a beautiful romantic song and he was perfect for this !
What a fantastic song, such a shame Jimi and Survivor were underrated by many.
They were only underrated in the minds of the uninformed. In reality, they were composed of some of the best songwriters imaginable, and arguably the most fantastic voice of all times. Personally, it is no contest. From the first note, I ever heard him deliver, it resonated with perfection!
@@williampierce4946 Truly I have to listen to Jimi every day to be happy
The best Jimi Jamison forever in my heart. RIP
I cant hear your voice across the miles tonight¡😔💗💙
2:30 Looking back, I have traveled to 5 of the cities since that decade. That was a goal as I come from poverty. Interesting that the other 5 are also on my go to list.
What a gorgeous chorus, I love this song.
Una canción y una escena musical de mi tiempo, espectacular , que decir? Los recuerdos , el pasado y un tiempo que no volverán los 80 años maravillosos que sé fueron demasiado rápido pero nos quedamos con esta música
It’s a shame this song did not go straight to top ten.
