Second Battle of Fallujah

- Yesterday in 2004, #Marines launched the Second Battle of Fallujah, also known as Operation Phantom Fury.
For more than six weeks, Marines and Soldiers fought alongside coalition partners to clear the city of insurgents.
The street-to-street and house-to-house fighting was some of the most intense combat of the Iraq War, and led to acts of exceptional courage by Marines and Soldiers.
Nine Marines were awarded the Navy Cross for their heroism, and U.S. Army Staff Sergeant David Bellavia received the Medal of Honor.

Uncle of mine who was a Navy Corpsman participated in the battle, was awarded a purple heart after he received multiple shrapnel wounds from an IED, and was commended for giving medical attention to a comrade while under fire. He died 3 months ago in a cement truck crash. Truck rolled over and that was it. He had to take the job after spending most of his adult life serving, found that VA pensions fell well short of making ends meet. Never forget that while the man next to you may give his very life to keep you safe, the brass up top will fuck you the first chance they see.
I don't understand , I'm not from US and whenever I spoke to US vets they told me they had a pension that it's enough for them to live , but then I read histories like your uncle's and I don't know what to believe , is it this bad for vets in US in general?

Absolutely! Before the Mossbergs were on station we had Ithaca 37’s & even some 870’s. This was a really hard time during OIF2. Najaf had just finished a few months earlier, and we'd been seeing an increase in VBIEDs as well. Never won a battle without army or navy help though. You’re welcome.
@@Kinghippo-ov1iu the Marines win battles, not wars. Protecting the Army since 1775. You're welcome. 😁
Er. The Army were fighting at Fallujah (never heard of Sgt. David Bellavia, 1st Infantry Division? He was awarded the MoH - would you tell him he had it easy?)... also the US Army have done the lion's share of the fighting in literally all of America's wars lmao, how could the Marines have been "protecting" them when they weren't even present a lot of the time?
World War II for example. There were zero USMC combat formations in the ETO (war against Germany/Italy). No US Marines landed at Sicily, Salerno, or especially Normandy (the largest amphibious assault in history) or fought in the Battle of the Bulge, Hurtgen Forest, North Africa, etc. They were all US Army (in terms of American troops obviously, not forgetting the Allies).
The Army did the lion's share of the fighting in the PTO (war against Japan) too.
They were in all the USMC island hopping battles except for Tarawa and usually comprised around half of the American ground forces - hitting the beaches simultaneously with the Marines. In fact, the Army (77th Infantry Division) landed in Okinawa before the Marines. That's in addition to liberating the Philippines (where there were very few Marines) and New Guinea. You've also probably never heard of the Aleutian Islands campaign, or Merrill's Marauders and the Burma Campaign. Again, no USMC presence. Fun fact: The Army carried out more amphibious operations than the USMC in WW2.
So what were you saying about the Army having it easy again?
The most decorated combat units are in the US Army, not the USMC. Both in terms of unit decorations (e.g. Presidential Unit Citations) and individual awards such as the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross (= Navy Cross), Silver Star, etc.
The USMC are the superfluous branch of the US military who rely on propaganda - I mean good PR - to keep themselves from either being disbanded or drastically reduced and folded into the Navy/Army. Their raison detre (amphibious assault) is obsolete in modern warfare. The Army has both sustained land warfare operations and expeditionary warfare covered - and CIA SAC & SOCOM has special operations covered. It's dudes in the Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces, Rangers, Delta Force, etc that get all the high speed missions now.
may god bless all of you amen soldiers 🇺🇸🫡
Most legendary battle ever
My tank company supported RCT-7. We, along with our sister tank company supporting RCT-5 went through so much tank main gun ammo they were flying it in direct from the manufacturing plant. Ammo's cheap, Marines are expensive. It was humbling to watch those grunts go, and pride knowing that as long as an infantry company in 1/8 crossed LD each time with tanks they took no KIA. Why the army units there supporting the Marines got the Presidential Unit Citation but not the Marines is still a mystery.
Dang that sucks. I helped take down a top dude one time , pulled him out of the car myself and detained him. He was like the number 8 most wanted guy in Iraq. When the battalion commander came to give me a award, they had someone receive it in my place because I got in trouble for drinking the day before 🤷🏻♂️
Marines don't really do Awards like the Army does. I was in Fallujah as a young ass LCpl. Then later joined the Army. A Small group of us from Taskforce Wolfpack, The Marines who took the peninsula to kick off Fallujah 2, were given a unit patch from 2nd infantry Division since both the Marines and the Army have John Lejeune in common.

Now without tanks the USMC cannot fight another Fallujah
They shouldn't have been there in the first place. As a rule, the Marines shouldn't even be fighting that kind of deep inland battle. That's why the Marines were utterly indispensable for WWII's Pacific island-hopping campaign, but weren't needed for the Army to defeat the Germans in Europe. The Marines need to be a highly mobile, balancing speed and power, fast-response "911" force that focuses primarily, but not always exclusively, on the coastal and near-coastal areas of the world.
@@MisterMediocrity-uu9gx um whatever. Marines exist to destroy and to kill. They need tanks to do this more efficiently
I know Ukrainians get a lot of credit for fighting a much larger opponent in Russia, but can we give a shoutout to the Iraqi and the Afghan insurgents that fought the US and coalition forces.
tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers have already been killed. Imagine how many KIA the US Army will suffer fighting for one city? They could have thousands of deaths fighting for one city against Russia.
Yeah and unlike Ukraine, the Iraqi and Afghan insurgents didn't have a superpower and their friends pouring in billions of dollars and giving them every toy possible to fight back. Ukraine has USA, UK, Germany, and various other countries supplying them.
If they were being provided with fuckloads of ATGMs, MANPADs, drones, rocket artillery, tanks, etc, US and coalition casualties would've been much higher. US lost about 3,000 KIA in Iraq, it would've been at least 15,000-20,000 if the guys they were fighting had any serious gear. Moreso if they were provided training as well.
