Sinclair sells a tool that uses a fired piece of brass but does not sacrifice the case. I used it for years, and I still do when I don't have a modified case.
I just tried 43.5gr staball match with 150 gr Barnes ttsx. Excellent results. Will chronograph and get groups next time out. Forgot everything this time.
Erik Cortina does it like that, but lubes the bullet so it doesn't get stuck in the barrel or work their way out some giving you a false long measurement. I'm gonna try his way and,see what happens.
Drill and tap a case to make your own modified case. I made a couple for fun, wasn't fun but it worked.

I have glued a bullet. A viewer said ta use loc tite.
Just a dremil slot in a sized case.
Ya can also make a chamber cast and measure.
I use the jrb method, has always worked for me! You gotta sacrifice one!

Hornady will make them for you, but you have to send them two fired cases. A couple of other companies is will as well.
