Mulgrave Mill’s Suburban Cane Trains | The Cairns Railfan

- Today we will be chasing a cane train through the suburbs of Cairns. You rarely see any cane railway line like that goes through the suburbs of a city because in most cases, those suburbs were built over cane fields meaning that the lines were now useless as they had no cane fields to serve. In Mulgrave Mill’s case, the suburbs were built over the cane fields but the line never stopped running due to cane in Redlynch needing to be brought to the mill! This makes for interesting scenery that you will rarely see a cane train in. These trains operate all throughout the day and night. I hope you enjoy the video!

This is really cool and I have subscribed
Thank you!
Just started watching and have a question. Do you think they will ever have the cane trains going over the Baron River bridge again or do you reckon that's it? It's a fascinating railway! Thankyou for capturing it.
@@Geeves8612 Even still it’s unclear what exactly the mill wants to do. A year on from what happened last year and nothing around the old bridge site has changed but there has been varied talk about a potential new bridge but nothing to confirm it really. In my point of view it’s simply expensive in the short term to build the new bridge; but in the long term it’ll be less expensive compared to constantly trucking sugarcane bins back and forth over the Barron River by road. The way I see it, it’ll be a 50/50 chance whether they decide to go for the bridge rebuild or not.
Thanks for watching, I agree these railways are fascinating, no problem!
Hello, I am the owner of the Sandhi Spoor channel. I'm like you who also likes trains... by the way the sugar cane trains are still well maintained compared to the sugar cane trains in my country
Thanks for your comment, it’s interesting to see the difference!
