      Is normal braking also the same as straight line braking?

      @@Axlerracer Straight line braking is the best technique to begin with when starting karting. It requires you to establish a braking point, not too late, but enough that you have to press the brakes hard to lock the rear wheels. As soon as the rear end starts to slip, release the brakes and control the kart rotation. I did an in-depth video which you can watch below:

    I found it much more effective than normal braking when i went to our local rental karts. I carried much more speed into the corner but it felt controlled and the front of the kart was still biting instead of understeering very difficult for me to do consistently as I'm still a rookie when it comes to karting and racing techniques but when getting it right it feels much faster and the lap times showed it being faster as well.

    To learn it, I used to picture a string tensioned between the bottom of the steering wheel and the pedal. When breaking, the line is fully tensioned keeping the steering wheel straight. Then I start turning and the steering wheel would pull the imaginary string, pulling the break pedal up.

    After one year I was again on one indoor track where is record 23.03s (260m long track), my best lap was 25.49. Last year my best lap was 25.98, still bit better but I drifted a lot. I wanna try to get as faster time by fixing my mistakes. Im about 65-70kg, so I just need to practice and your videos are useful.

    Just a question, when breaking hard, the bodyweight must be taken to the backward? I'm tall and on the straight i use to out my body forward. During the brake, I use to put my body backward and then lean out when cornering.

    • @kartingtips
      @kartingtips  Рік тому +13

      Thank you for your feedback and great questions! When you're braking sit back and load the rear because that's where the brakes are located. When cornering lean out because you want to lift the inside rear tyre giving more grip on the outside wheels.

    If you trail brake good at some point, with either rentals or low power kart you will just brake in the corner and not even in straight lines anymore for medium and slow turns.

      I wonder the same, it seems to me like it would be very hard to do this with rear brakes only. All karts i've driven are rear brakes only :p.
      So far i mostly just coast at the entry of a corner. I'm still about a second of the top time so maybe trailbraking is indeed part of this. Ill let you know if i can find some extra time with this :D

      @@gorgeotyann9553 I use a go kart similar to the one in the video that has only rear brakes. I found it really useful to brake hard but without locking the rear tires, that way I could brake and turn into the corner faster. @@jerosajose Starting with a used kart definately saves some money ! Had a interesting road to the track ! This will be 15th season of outdoor karting ! With 3 solid years of indoor karting before that . Also did double duty as a track marshal . Last race of 22 worked and raced at same time and started this year off working a 6 hour Enduro !! Non racing injury was the end of kart ownership. 1200 dollars for a kart with spare kart and mounted rain tires !! The next one was newer and paid 1000 for that . Was getting ready to buy a new one then life kicked my behind ! Just glad can still do a few rental races and can't beat myself up like I did in my mid 30's . Now 54 and still love it ! Never be afraid to ask questions and once it becomes a sickness then all is good 😁 . Make sure you get a set off kneepads to protect the inside of your knees ! Never fly a go kart . It's not bad until gravity takes over ! Back a mess for 6 months and went back for more next round and won back to back races
      Check out Flying Go Kart Overtake .
      Was at end of fence when it landed and driver had sore neck but was ok 😁 . Also you never know who you will meet at the track !Over the years have seen kids become teens then adults One was not old enough to race and he as tall as me now 🤯 Sorry for the rant but hope you have as much fun as I did . Karting has given me alot over the years ❤🏁

    I only ever driven at Team Sport. Their brakes are on the rear wheels. I'm not sure if its worth trail braking in their karts, you're essentially doing a light handbrake turn. Whole point of trail braking is keep weight transfer at the front for corner entry and maximise front wheel grip. I don't think I can trail brake Team Sport's karts as I doubt my weight will get thrown forward when their brakes are behind me, not the front!

    • @last-and-furious
      @last-and-furious Рік тому +3

      on the vast majority of karts the brakes are only on the rear. when you decelerate/brake there is always a weight transfer towards the front, even with rear brakes only

    Does trail braking works for rental kart?

    • @kartingtips
      @kartingtips  Рік тому +1

      It's pretty difficult in modern rental karts because some karts don't allow you to press both pedals at the same time. Whichever pedal you press first, it will engage that input only.
