I got first place on my local go karting track thanks to this! I feel like you really need to know when the right time is for each of these overtakes and it takes a lot of skill to use your brain but also to act upon it
My favourite overtaking manoeuvre ever was at Little Rissington. I braked a little early, cut to the inside in order to get on the power early and be facing out on a better angle (you need both). Then, you can easily pass on the inside. I explained to my friend exactly how to do it. I came up behind him in the dog leg. He did it perfectly, passing 2 karts. Then, I got him too!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Though I am sure this is a mere glimpse of your superior professional knowledge but for a casual beginner like themself - your training tips have made me fall-in-love with this sport as well as I having more fun at the kart-track.
Same here. Next month will mark one full year into this karting adventure. I started out suuuuuper casually and now I’m on my local track league and just got my 1st podium finish. These videos have been a tremendous resource. Plus lots and lots and lots of practice.
Elbows out is what I used to do as a kid, but plenty of misjudgments ended with being pinned on the wall. It's nice to see different techniques explained, and I will gladly add them to my toolbelt for use against my mates.
I really wish I could go gokarting more often, but it's too expensive really, but the times I have gone with my friends have been a lot of fun (although messy). These videos make me reallu excited to drive again!
I always get in the back of the line if given the option or let everyone pass on the warmup lap so i can practice overtaking maneuvers at tracks i have been at before and know well.
Thank you for the video, What i do with novice drivers that really works are.Get up behind them, wait for them to move to the outside of the corner to smooth out the racing line, and then pull up on the inside. Classic block pass. It works well on L-R or R-L corners.Your exit is slow but you got the line for the next corner.
With all the respect, most of these overtakes are on people that not more than your average tourist in a go-kart. For example, the outside overtake at 2:25 only works because the person in kart number 14 is terribly slow. Person drives the inside line while not even defending, early braking, still misses the apex and not even full throttle on the next straight. The speed difference coming out of the hairpin is mostly because someone is in a go-kart for the 2nd time in their life.
Yeah i agree, they will defend the position with their lives, parking on the apex... Its near imposible to make overs in a narrow track with drivers that dont leave any space for overtake regarles of how speed are you going
Thank you🔥 all overtaking manoeuvres are pretty legit and I will try and execute at my next arrive and drive... Don't stop making these videos💗💗thank you✨
This final clip reminds me a lot of the Dubai autodrome track. Great video young dude. Never really cared much and I’m not sure why this turned up on my feed, but glad it did. My wife weighs a good 40kg less than me. Her weight vs my skill often ends up in a very close game. Might employ your knowledge in our next domestic settlement event.
The last track on the video, a couple years ago, I had the pleasure race on that track. By far the best outdoor track I've ever raced at! Awesome video and awesome advice!
Great intro, thanks! My 3 year old son loves F1, so I take him to the go kart track at the beach where I live, where they have 2 seat karts. No one is a real driver (including me) or follows the racing line (as I never did as a kid), so simply by watching F1 I started to be quicker than anyone. But overtaking is very hard on the track as it’s narrow. So thanks! I just hope I’m not a Jos Verstappen waiting to happen. My kid stands up on the car when we stop and pretends to be Alonso winning a race.
Those aggressive inside overtakes in the "Indoor" chapter are risky though, right? Because the driver on the outside could turn in, sticking you to the wall, maybe causing both of you to stick together or spin, etc?
Some of the best trips to arrive and drive karting is passing people who are doing like 10 seconds slower per lap. Passing at such a speed differential is invigorating.
Thanks for the tips! When I'm doing indoor karting, I never trust overtaking from the outside as most drivers are completely unaware your there and squeeze you into the barrier! However sometimes it can work!
Not really a professional or a great tip but for me I just take the normal racing line but also making sure I don’t leave enough space for them to overtake me in turns and to always fill the inside line if they are close to me
How should you overtake somebody whos blocking a small track and brakes completly random and defends by crashing in to you. Then the marshals don't give you a blue flag even though you are stuck 3 laps behind him?
that's the moment when you should squeeze in literally any gap he leaves open to you. Or just push him wide in a corner. What goes around comes around lol
I’m watching this video because my first time in an actual go karting race (because I was old enough now) I tried to overtake this woman but she obviously can’t see behind her and when I tried to drive past her she turned into me and we collided. I wanted to know how and when is it safe to overtake someone when go karting to avoid any sort of accidents like that because she ended up with a huge red bruise on her neck 😬
Thank you so much for this video. I only started to Karting in this month but I want to be better and better. In firstly I wanted to know how to drive (I never did before) and know how is it working, being fast in the corners to take advantage of the Apexs (etc) But in the last one i had lot of situations where i wasn't enough in overtaking. This tips are super useful for me! Thank you again!!!
I went karting for the first time two days ago and placed 2nd in both races, 3rd overall. It was exactly like driving rally cross on dirt rally. And the karts cornered much better than I thought they would
Sometimes I get held up while trying to take the inside line after the straight and this really slows my entire pace as I have to brake or else I will crash into his rear. And if I do brake then the gap between me and the driver ahead increase a lot. What can I do in this situation?
2:00 pros actualy trys to take apex but from inside so basicly if you are going in racing line the guy who was inside will stop you from overtaking. (Defending btw)
Most of your overtaking is elbows out approach. Which is effective till you do it to someone like yourself or worse someone that doesn’t care. I like how you keep saying this guy isn’t on the racing line while you aren’t on the racing line. I want to see a video on an indoor track with someone on the racing line and driving defensive. Also couldn’t tell looked like one of the places had electric carts which I think are the least competitive carts in existence. A lot of them have speed adjustments so they can turn you up or down on power while racing. The regulars normally start at full power and new racers start at low. Gas carts some are faster some are slower and if you go to a place enough you figure out which one is fastest. They are all still much closer than electrics. I guess my point is just watched another video where a guy punched a hole by ramming through with his cart (elbows out) and all I could think was wow this guy is way nice than me it’s really not hard to spin someone into the barrier. Race clean normally you get clean racing race dirty it goes great till you find a fuck around and find out person.
Thank you for your comment! I have been competing in and winning various Karting competitions for the past 6 years. Recently I raced in Formula 4 South East Asia and I plan to continue racing in the F4 championship once COVID restrictions are lifted!

i love the switchback overtake, definitely is satisfying that leaves the other driver wondering lol
