Nice. I only wish that the physical movements were quicker. Also I like the air animation. Everyone else has it look like a light fog is blowing by, but u made it look like there’s some actual power behind it.
True,
-water and air bending should be 'flowy'. While air bend looks of a constant and light movement, water bend looks like she ia holding the mass of the water.
-fire bend movement is agressive, while punches and kicks starts relatively slow then accelerate until it stop at the maximum range of motion.
-earth bend looks hefty, as if it really moving the mass of the rock. Every punch and kick was almost of a straight movement.
I’m sure if this was a combat scene, it would but quicker...

Water - ultra realistic.
Fire - quite realistic.
Earth - momentaly no.
Air - very realistic.

But I don't know why stones come to me artificial (movement or texture) but otherwise excellent.

I think if I did the shot again from scratch maybe change the rock model to be bigger and more cone shaped at the bottom. Change the texture so that it looks more muddy but have places were you can still see the granite texture with more moss and vines. Also lets try having the two rocks move about more so the one on the right flies over korra and ends up on the left in time to be kicked and maybe smaller rocks could emerge in the foreground close to camera?
@@CGVisualsVFX The problem with the earth bending is that the rocks aren't supposed to float. They should be kicked out of the ground and momentarily stand still as gravity slows it down quickly, but the bender makes contact with it and propels it forward. Having floating rocks for several seconds looks goofy and unrealistic.

I wish that the first build up of Korra taking all of the water droplets was quicker, it would provide a much more ATLA and LOK energy.

This is awesome
The look of your effects from a technical standpoint is obviously amazing, I think one reason why it doesn’t sell it for me (especially earth) is the lack of practical effects that should work with it. I want to see the damage that the bending is doing to the scene like have real charred ground from fire and have damage to the floor from earth. Right now it looks like the most realistic filter of bending ever put on top of your footage but it doesn’t look like it is physically happening in the scene. That’s why I think if this was paired with an indie movie production that has to budget to add some practice elements to these effects it would look really great.
Very detailed and astute analysis, I definitely agree I'm working on Live Action Avatar's short film. They had a leaf blower to help sell air, some orange set lights for the fire and the martial artist's are suspended on bungee cords allowing them to preform gravity defying during stunts.

The software is Trapcode Particular V4.1.5 (not yet compatible with Particular V5) by the company Red Giant. The bending is presets for particular called Trapcode Elements which is in the description.

I don’t understand why people take this slow almost dance like approach to bending. For me bending is a fast paced fluid motion. You’re often bending for your life, you wouldn’t always go slow paced. I understand there’s some limits with CGI but meh.

Its great.... But I think after effects lacks a lot here. The ice just doesnt look.... Houdini would probably Help a lot here. Also the fire Looks kinda fake..... The water is clearly missing a HDRI!!!! The RBD sims look very fake.... 1st because it looks like they just spawn, because there is no hole caused by the bending und the little pieces that fall of the rock are missing constraints.....
After effects is for Mograph and maybe for Comp in Low Budget, but not for Sim or 3D! For these Type of FX you should pick Houdini..... Always pick the right tools for the job.
Yes, you are right, they used Houdini for the live-action Avatar film in fact. But put yourself in the shoes of a low budget filmmaker. Even the indie version of Houdini is a monthly investment, it is difficult to learn and most of the comprehensive online training for Houdini is sold at a premium on sites like SideFX. Even if you learn how to create realistic sims in Houdini and find a way to optimize the render times for a single work station, which is not a beginner level. You would still have to learn how to composite the renders to a high standard and also lose the interactivity of having a live updating sim in comp that is optimized to cache within minutes at half-res using only ram! Then a full HD render is much more reliable when the PC can actually use the hard drive to assist with rendering.
Let me @netflix so they don’t fuck up too bad.
