  • The root causes of intimate partner violence are often misunderstood because gender bias and social acceptance of violence adds to the complexities. In this conversation about the Power & Control Wheel, advocates, survivors, and upstanders will gain critical insight into how domestic violence is reinforced by systems and social norms. Ulester Douglas, former director of Men Stopping Violence, Scott Miller, advocate and co-director coordinator at Domestic Abuse Intervention Programs, Lori Stavnes, Pathways to Family Peace Facilitator, and Melissa Scaia, Director of International Training for Global Rights for Women and facilitator of Pathways to Family Peace, will discuss this critical tool in identifying common patterns of abusive behavior, and how to change it.

Even tho I am a survivor and a woman.. I am offended that this doesn't recognize that men can also be victims and women can also be the perpetrator. I have seen it. And it needs to be more recognized so more men understand what is happening to them. And more organizations equipped to recognize and help them .

Great conversation. It really inspired me to learn more and revive the talk with my students and colleagues. It is strange, though, that such a vital topic is not having much more viewers than it should....people are much more interested on gossip videos...shame!

An important topic is conflated with racism and other pc issues. A cursory look at the wheel shows that these methods are common to any abuser. The psychological methods are the same. Tuning out….

Is sexual coercion considered a form of sexual violence even if there is no physical abuse involved? And how about reproductive control? Could this be considered a form of sexual violence?

I am male and it offends me that the wheel only applies to women. That doesn’t even make sense. I’ve dealt with it first hand with woman perpetrator. Plus they are open minded enough to apply proper gender pronouns. Then close minded enough to say only men can abuse women this way. Offensive.
