Just an FYI, you can still get the slim, rectangular "gumstick" batteries that Sony used in its early 00s minidisc devices. They don't have great energy density, but they're SLIM.
It's fantastic you're making the battery easy to access on your iPod. It's definitely one of the biggest drawback it has due to its compact layout. I Love the beefy look to your design, but as you said, it makes the iPod less pocket sized. I could definitely see a remedy being a belt strap or something similar If you're planning on making another prototype, have you considered having the battery offset, making the housing in line with the guts of the iPod? I could see it being used as a kind of handle on the side to add extra hand grip real-estate while allowing the device to more easily fit into a pocket.
I think this is a great step. Now how do we make it bigger and more impractical. Add bluetooth to it. Cause you know normal ear buds bunch up in your pocket.
It likely does charge the battery but unless you wired to the iPod's own +Vcc and ground at the charging port, the iPod isn't going to know the battery is being charged. I would just suggest not plugging in a FireWire cable and the USB C cable at the same time unless you've got diodes in all the correct places
May I ask, is the soldering flux paste by any chance the stuff made for plumbing? If so, you may want to scrub your projects that used it, and stop using it. The plumbing flux may contain harmful compounds that eat away at your projects over time. Nice work! If the power supply is a USB C PD charger, the load/consumer needs a 5.1K resistor between CC1/CC2 and ground, which signals to the charger you're requesting standard 5V/3A by default.
Thank you for this video! Butchering apple's holy design is bringing me an unexpected amount of joy. I might buy an ipod just to do that -- it looks great and makes my apple fan friends wince? 10/10
Just watched all your videos! Excellent quality, i really enjoy your style of video! Keep up the great work! 👍
I’ve been subscribed for just a day and I’m already hyped that there’s a new upload
Building something around a smartphone's removable battery probably would have made this much slimmer.

You made it that thick only to use single cell? It can fit 3
