Best quote -- "It’s the imperfect look of older cameras that give a feeling of a simpler time” - that's fantastic. It made me think.... I'd LOVE it if you created a video on how to shoot photographs and videos on the new iPhone 16 Pro and avoid the over-processing/flat look. The new styles make it actually possible to bring back actual dark shadows, etc., which is the most under-discussed feature of these new phones. It also would be good to talk about the pros and cons of various modes. For example HEIF max vs RAW max vs normal, etc. I'd love to see a grid and hear a discussion of what each is optimized for. For example, shooting RAW eliminates the option to use live photo and styles, but there are definitely times I want to shoot raw with the intent of post-processing in Lightroom, but lately, I find myself shooting more often in HEIF or HEIF max and using the built-in adjustments and styles to make it look like an actual photograph. Out of all of the youtube creators I follow, I think you'd be the best at covering these topics in an approachable way. My 2 cents! - Thank you!

I have one of these...RED that I bought when I went to NYC as soon as I got divorced. Recorded a bunch of movies with my 3 yearsold, and then lost it. I thought it had been stolen. 15 years later, whilst packing stuff at my parent's house I had to push my bedsidetable away (pretty square thing) and when I picked it up (instead of just moving it around to clean ;) )... there it was. Battery is dead. but the movies were all there... :D my kid, now 19 remembered it and loved to see the movies she did with a unicorn and other kids toys. :D. I will cherish this device for ever.

My first personally owned camera as a kid was this iPod, so many home videos made, so many great memories. My dad got me it as he knew I liked listening to music and would always steal his camcorder to make videos. A beautifully flawed camera and device that singlehandedly kickstarted my passion for music and video creation, somehow mine is still going despite dropping it a million times!

One of my favourite things about shooting on a camcorder is that what it means to be filmed on one is very distinct from cameraphone recordings. I think all of us associate being filmed on a phone with a performative action. People are shooting for max 30 seconds and you will almost certainly be on someone's instagram story within another 30 seconds of the stop button being pressed. It makes people feel self conscious and like they have to project a certain image that is compatible with being permanently online.
When you record something on a camcorder, you are usually going to record people much more naturally and the footage isn't likely to end up online for days or weeks, if ever. I recently looked through some footage from 4-5 years ago I took backstage at a video shoot in my sony handicam and it's just a few of us shooting the shit and messing around very naturally for 10 minutes. It's so authentic and I've never seen a phone video that has made me feel the same way.
This has made me want to dig my 5th gen nano out of my mum's attic!

I had an iPod Nano 2nd gen as a kid. It was a hand me down from my dad. I used it until it was completely busted. It literally still worked after I left it in my pocket during the laundry, TWICE! I never got the black spot of death, but after the second run in the dryer, the adhesive came loose on the top plate and the lock switch broke. I always wanted the Nano 5th gen because of the camera, colors, and alien-like shape. I wanted one SO BADLY. Now seeing your footage and how small it is even by today’s standards, I’m tempted to jump on eBay. I’m probably going to hold off though because I still have my iPod Touch 4th Gen which also has an amazingly retro camera on it and the iPod is completely usable still. And it’s really tiny too!

I have the entire iPod Nano line that I've collected at various thrift stores in the 2010s. A few have the dark spots, battery starting to bulge issue. I don't use them anymore, and don't feel like replacing the batteries, so they are like nice coffee table pieces to look at and then put back in a box.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one trying to slow down and going back to old. I recently went back to iPods, but in my case iPod Classic just because I wanted a dedicated music listening device instead of a streaming service. I'm constantly overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options I have and I just wanted simple. Leave my phone in another room, take my ipod and book and just slow down. Never been much for video though, I'm more of a stills girlie. I keep forgetting my X-T5 and iPhone 14 Pro have video capability because I just do stills. But I do get the nostalgia though. Something to be said about less perfect image quality and more character. Absolutely loved this video and loved finding out about your history with camcorders. And congrats on hitting 100k!

Great video! The problem with modern tech is it is hyper real, and that’s not how our brains remember things; there is a cloudy vail over visual memories that footage like the nano video seem to replicate nicely, and that’s why we are drawn to the nostalgic feel that old cameras yield. Congrats on 100K!

I was a teenager when the colorful nanos came out and I was so fascinated by them (still am) and didn’t have money to buy it and my Parents weren’t rich. Now, I have almost all Apple Products. 😂 Love your speaking voice btw.

So happy for you to make the move out of NYC. Find what makes you happy! I frequently have dreams where I'm using an old feature phone, so you using an iPod Nano for this felt familiar.
