That comment in the video made me think of the pro video features of the S line phones from samsung. There is a smooth zoom option that feels and looks a lot like the old camcorder zooms imo
As someone who worked on this iPod for almost a year to help get it manufactured, this video brought back all the feels. I'm very proud to have contributed to a small part of bringing this iPod to life. Thank you for appreciating this product!
Hello Mr., could you elaborate on what exactly you have been doing and what you are doing at this point in time. It's always interesting to hear someone's story
so refreshing to see someone with a deep appreciation & understanding of bleeding edge tech also appreciate lossy/retro-ish tech of consumer electronics of the past, your videos are always a nice watch Becca!
Best quote -- "It’s the imperfect look of older cameras that give a feeling of a simpler time” - that's fantastic. It made me think.... I'd LOVE it if you created a video on how to shoot photographs and videos on the new iPhone 16 Pro and avoid the over-processing/flat look. The new styles make it actually possible to bring back actual dark shadows, etc., which is the most under-discussed feature of these new phones. It also would be good to talk about the pros and cons of various modes. For example HEIF max vs RAW max vs normal, etc. I'd love to see a grid and hear a discussion of what each is optimized for. For example, shooting RAW eliminates the option to use live photo and styles, but there are definitely times I want to shoot raw with the intent of post-processing in Lightroom, but lately, I find myself shooting more often in HEIF or HEIF max and using the built-in adjustments and styles to make it look like an actual photograph. Out of all of the youtube creators I follow, I think you'd be the best at covering these topics in an approachable way. My 2 cents! - Thank you!
got emotional & nostalgic watching this video the look of old handcam & ipod nano footage spraks so much memories from the early 2000s. Like you said Becca there is so much character to those clips. Thank you so much for curating this amazing video :)

I have one of these...RED that I bought when I went to NYC as soon as I got divorced. Recorded a bunch of movies with my 3 yearsold, and then lost it. I thought it had been stolen. 15 years later, whilst packing stuff at my parent's house I had to push my bedsidetable away (pretty square thing) and when I picked it up (instead of just moving it around to clean ;) )... there it was. Battery is dead. but the movies were all there... :D my kid, now 19 remembered it and loved to see the movies she did with a unicorn and other kids toys. :D. I will cherish this device for ever.
So happy for you to make the move out of NYC. Find what makes you happy! I frequently have dreams where I'm using an old feature phone, so you using an iPod Nano for this felt familiar.
Wonderful video. I recently moved to using an iPod Classic for all my music needs, and really love it. Just waiting on my replacement battery to arrive.
Wow, this brings back memories of middle school! Thank you for also opening up about moving to a quieter place and I'm glad that you feel more at peace now. Looking forward to more videos!
Please continue to make more videos like this. I’m not sure how well they’ll perform, but I love them way more than any smartphone review, and they showcase your personality super well
MY GOD, I bought one of these for my wife in our senior year in highschool. We used this camera SO much. We still have it. Time to bust it out. I'm literally going to film a video on it for my channel. Thanks for the inspo Becca
Yes! I love interesting uses for older tech. Would love to see more videos in this series Becca. Also, wooow you live in a beautiful area. Great choice!
I feel like the second ive watched this I could instantly tell that you seem to be much happier now that you're independent and moved out of NYC. I love that ☺ Im so happy for you and I cant wait for your next video !
Watching your videos make me happy. I wish I was living a simple jubilant life photographing sunny afternoons😊. Hope you continue and glad you went indie.
One of my favourite things about shooting on a camcorder is that what it means to be filmed on one is very distinct from cameraphone recordings. I think all of us associate being filmed on a phone with a performative action. People are shooting for max 30 seconds and you will almost certainly be on someone's instagram story within another 30 seconds of the stop button being pressed. It makes people feel self conscious and like they have to project a certain image that is compatible with being permanently online. When you record something on a camcorder, you are usually going to record people much more naturally and the footage isn't likely to end up online for days or weeks, if ever. I recently looked through some footage from 4-5 years ago I took backstage at a video shoot in my sony handicam and it's just a few of us shooting the shit and messing around very naturally for 10 minutes. It's so authentic and I've never seen a phone video that has made me feel the same way. This has made me want to dig my 5th gen nano out of my mum's attic!
We also recently moved to the middle of no where with no cell reception and it definitely gives you a different perspective. Loving these videos - I miss iPods!
This is amazing! I daily drive an iPod 5th generation for music and podcasts to be more intentional after I ditched my smart phone. Thank you for this!
I restored my iPod classic recently, replacing the screen, the back, the hard-drive to a ssd (almost everything) and I love the feeling of reliving these moments... Cheers from Brazil! Love your channel 🙂🤙
I’ve seen many new camera reviews, fewer old camera reviews, but this particular review felt innovative. Nice job! More of whatever lead you to this idea, please 😊
Becca PLEASE KEEP SHARING like this. I'm in the same situation--two years ago I moved from Los Angeles to a rural area near my mom, and I'm enjoying my creativity even more. I happened upon your camera reviews at your *last job* ;-) and so glad your stories continue here. This is from a middle aged white southern guy--you're inspiring to a lot of people. Thank you.
It was today I learned they ever put a camera in an iPod..and I owned three of them over the years before very recently going phone only..loving the videos Becca, you were always my favourite part of The Verge and I’m glad you revived this channel so we can still see you
My first personally owned camera as a kid was this iPod, so many home videos made, so many great memories. My dad got me it as he knew I liked listening to music and would always steal his camcorder to make videos. A beautifully flawed camera and device that singlehandedly kickstarted my passion for music and video creation, somehow mine is still going despite dropping it a million times!
thank you for the wonderful "retro" device showcase. I also like the idea of something small and pocket friendly to have as a moment catcher. thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Becca, for getting me to turn on back my classic iPod Touch 5th generation to use as my camcorder and digital camera after watching this! I can't wait to make some memories on it 🙌🏻
First, huge enormous blast of nerd affection to Jim Terry’s iPad, what a vibrant deep blue case! Second, please bring on more old tech and more nerding out in it while talking about life choices. Three, I would love for your Patreon to have workshops on how to be as awesome at seeing things as Becca Farscape does 😊
Love this. Especially because I found my broken iPod Classic 4th gen the other day and I’ve decided to fix it and get it going again. Actually excited to whip it out on the train in front of people haha
your videos give me Neistat vibes-you're good at what you do =), love to see you thriving in your new space & channel. love this video/topic & its relevance on life/how we interact/use tech
Yeah, those videos look great. I love how it's got that projector lens-like quality where it's much sharper in the center and falls off quickly once you get like, halfway to the edge. Super cozy footage.
Literally sat digitising tapes from my camcorder when this popped up. Great video, cant beat the look and never new this version of the iPod existed! So cool.
been meaning to invest in an ipod to relive the time when it was popular as I couldn't afford to get one back then. such a timely video, might expand my search for even the nano ones too. :)
This is deeply nostalgic. I had the original iPod nano and they were truly remarkable back then. We've also been getting back into our old camcorders. Great storytelling.

Great video I have all the 4th-Gen nanos and am in the process of getting all the 5th-Gen ones. I don't care if they work, because they're all going into a frame as a display, because I love the metallic colors.
I wish these Nanos weren't so frustrating to repair - I have two of them sitting around! Luckily, I managed to back up the videos before battery swell got to one of them. Fantastic video by the way! My fiancée and I only recently discovered your content, and hoping lots of success comes your way!
I've recently bought some old iPods and I absolutely fell in love with 3rd gen nano. It's amazingly tiny compared to modern tech, yet it does everything I need. There should be a company dedicated to making this kind of micro devices that allow you to disconnect yet carry your music/photos around.
I don’t normally comment on any video… but have to say loved this and your new content. As a retro tech fan and dedicated Apple fan boy… nice to see the nano getting some love too. Won’t be giving up my iPhone 16 pro max anytime soon, but soooo much love for this content Becca, and can’t wait to see what tech you drag out of the archives next 😊
s/o to Jim Terry! If you're out there, thank you for taking such great care of you 5th gen nano and passing along your rich Celtic Woman collection.

You touched on something that has been neglected by every modern camera manufacturer: smooth optical zoom
That comment in the video made me think of the pro video features of the S line phones from samsung. There is a smooth zoom option that feels and looks a lot like the old camcorder zooms imo
I think you mean phone manufacture, cause Sony, Panasonic & a few others do offer smooth optical zooming lenses.
@@Alex_564 far from the ideal or ergonomic as handicams. There are also no full frame options available
Handy cams weren't full frame either
No they still exist just not on a consumer level

Freaking rad. I JUMPED on the iPod Touch 4 to replace my miniDV camcorder back in the day - but definitely missed the zooms, too!
