Your pineapple cake video appeared in my UA-cam feed last night while I was trying to decide which cake to make for my mama’s 81st birthday. When I saw you cream that butter and sugar, I subscribed right away. I then watched this burger video, and you won me completely over when you pulled out that wax paper! I know it’s mainly nostalgic, but I swear that wax paper wrap made those burgers taste better! I’m 58, from Birmingham, Alabama, and I don’t remember places here using wax paper. But my mama is from the country in North Louisiana, with family in Texas and Arkansas, and I remember eating wax paper wrapped burgers from cafes and truck stops when we went out that way to visit. Also, my mama used to make burgers and hotdogs, wrapped in wax paper and put into a styrofoam cooler to take with us to the drive in movie. She said we could barely afford the price of the movie, so forget buying any concessions there. She was, and still is very frugal. Chef Jeffery, I'm fascinated to learn I see somebody else is a lemon person, grew up eating salt pork bacon and rice with butter and sugar. We did the rice with sugar, butter and milk or just sugar and butter. Grits too, sugar and butter or butter and pepper among the other different ways to cook rice or grits. I'm a homemade hamburger fan too! I like sweet pickles on my turkey burgers, simi sweet or sour pickles on my hamburger. I guess I deserve a badge being able to relate to those old school meals. We had Saturday night sloppy Joe's. Made homemade fries with our hamburgers. I really enjoy watching your channel. I'm a new subscriber for about a couple of months, I appreciate your work and commentary. Yes, you can't have a old school hamburger without a glass of koolaid or soda. We had koolaid back in the day.
This reminds me of my mother's burgers. She'd go into that kitchen & whip up her burgers on a cast iron skillet, with caramelized onions!
If we pleaded for money to get restaurant food from the neighborhood joints, Burger King, or McDonald's, her homemade burgers were always her answer. . . We, at 1st, would be upset, but our kitchen would be smelling so good!
You be very careful in Chicago. . . That's my hometown. A lot of "tricksters" in Chicago, but we have a lot of "Good Eats" that you'll find nowhere else! ATL tries to imitate, but you can't duplicate CHGO Food. 😄 I hope you enjoy your CHGO visit.

Precious memories
Growning up in Chicago Ill, we go to the movies theater 47th street, afterwards we stop at the hamburger place. Have fries and burgers. Always rare eating out those days. I haven't been much of a burger person at McDonald's or any fast food place, but I love some White Castle, I enjoy making them at home though. Can anyone imagine or remember living without cell phone, portable movies or instance video cook shows like this old school cook show..
Those big burgers look so good. Ore-Ida crinkle French fries and Heinz ketchup is the real deal! Burger and fries is one of my favorite quick meals.

Your burgers look just as good as the ones that I used to get from those malt stands and drive-ins back in the day. I make my jumbo cheeseburgers like this too with cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion, but I also top mine with bacon. I make mine out of 8oz. 80/20 ground chuck or either 85/15 ground sirloin. I cook mine on a electric griddle or either in a 12 inch cast iron pan.
