A quick note that may help some: I had one valve that “worked” (could cause air flow) and two that didn’t. As it turns out, the one that “worked” was the one that needed fixing. It was in wrong and preventing the other two from flowing air.
Thank you! My instrument had just come back from the shop and didn't work! The guides were all misaligned. All the valve numbers were covered by the guide and the valves themselves were out of order. *smh Thanks for your quick fix it's all working and sounds great!
If I have to use pliers that have sharp teeth, I use a rubber band as a cushion. It also provides a good grip. The rubber bands that you get on broccoli are especially useful. Thank you for this excellent video.
Oml thank you there was a sub today and I had no idea what do do because on my open valve it was playing a D instead of B flat, you just saved me a scolding from my music teacher 😂
For best results, use the forbidden valve oil on everything. Stem, button, guide, valve itself... It's green and comes in a bottle branded "Loctite". It'll prevent anyone from ever tampering with the valve ever again.
So I have a Jupiter and in the valve cap there’s a stone on the end where my fingers go but it keeps falling out is there a better way than just glueing it?
My screws are super stuck so I can’t take out the valves to put valve oil. Any way to fix that?(i wanna see if there’s a way to reduce the stuck screws so when I screw it back it won’t get stuck again)
Your valve problem probably is different than the one shown in this video. There are many things that could cause this problem. Then when I play the valves are sticking or not returning quickly enough and my hands are soaking with fluid and oil. I've never had this happen before. What would cause this? Other tuba players I talk to have not had this problem
When you put it on the bell turn it the other way. For example, if you put it down clockwise, try turning it counterclockwise. I do not know if this will help, but it may have a tubing set-up that causes the water to go into the valves. If you turn it the other way, the water will pool elsewhere. I am not sure this is the problem, but that is what comes to mind.
I don't know what's going on, but I did the realigning of the value stem and all that but when I put the value in it doesn't work, my other values come up with the spring but mine gets stuck in between and doesn't move even with the spring there. It only moves when I push it manually.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. We just had a baby and I am finally getting around to answering questions. It sounds like there might be a small dent in the casing.
