Had this issue a couple of times but never thought to use the valve case to rectify it, thank you ;)

Perfect timing! I am working on an older valve set, and suspect this problem on my third valve, which continues to stick. Thanks Art!

At 1:33 you talk about valve squized...in that case what can be done? I don't think the same system you explain in this video works ... suggestions? thank you very much

You will probably need a valve sleeve mandrel for that. Cut a slot in the mandrel and carefully squeeze it in a vise. I should do a video on that.

Thanks a lot for the video demonstration of this rather touchy technique !
I have a question: if someone has a ground valve sleeve (such as Ferrees N28) would it be better to use the sleeve rather than the valve casing ? Or contrary maybe ?

I would be worried that the casing would be damaged as the end of the valve is being hit right into the center of the casing. Did you check seal and fit when you determined the valve to work?

Cool vid. I want to be able to repair my own instruments to cut cost. I play tuba and euph. Repairs are typically more expensive. Do you know a good place to order tuba and euph springs and felts.

I had been watching this video, as I have a 1st valve stuck on a flugelhorn and trying to diagnose the issue. Long story short, it is the valve guide that has moved to cause the issue. The guide appears to be a separate part, and now has moved somewhat. Do you have any suggestions on how to resit the guide to make it more flush?

FYI - The valve guide is made of metal and appears to be fused into the valve piston, and is not plastic like on some type of valves.

Today was the day I dreaded the most...I dropped a valve. Of course, now it won't go in the casing anymore. I am sure it is bent, but can't figure out exactly where. I am thinking of bringing it to a repeair tech, but I am not sure what it will cost. The whole trumpet cost me not even €40,- so I don't want to spend a lot more on this repair. If it will be too expensive, I'll just keep on trying to figure out where it's bend and start tapping...

Isn't there a valve straightening tool from Ferree's?

They make ground valve sleeves that will work too. I probably should have shown one of those in the video but I forgot about it.

But how can you get a valve that is stuck out to see if it is bent?

What happens if the valve case is the problem?

For most valve casing problems, you will need the correct size valve casing mandrel.
here is a video that may help.

why do some keys bang harder on my trumpet than other keys are not as loud

    • @TheBrassandWoodwindShop

Without seeing it, my first guess would be that some of the felts are compressed and hard. One may be a little more crispy than the others.

teacher I start to think how a valve can bend like that

    • @joejoeevans
      @joejoeevans 4 роки тому +1

When the valve is out of the trumpet it can get mishandled, dropped, stepped on, shot out of a cannon or any number of things.
