As much as I dislike the classist connotation in the statement, this murder could be considered to have intention to cause a different effect than a typical murder. That's crazy dude, I went through 16 years of school in fear for my life, wondering if my school was next. One CEO gets capped and suddenly I'm supposed to care about gun violence? LOL
Exactly. Because nobody cares when it’s kids, college students or teachers getting killed. But the moment the CEOS and politicians start getting hit. “Things need to change” and often do… because they know it’s either them or their family next. It’s just like what Eminem said “With the bullshit they pull, 'cause they full of shit too When a dude's gettin' bullied and shoots up his school And they blame it on Marilyn and the heroin Where were the parents at? And look where it's at Middle America, now it's a tragedy Now it's so sad to see An upper-class city havin' this happenin'”
Wouldnt you say this case further encourages individuals to use gun violence to push a message or agenda, including in school shooting circumstances? Look at the recent shooting where the girl posted a manifesto after. She obviously felt justified in shooting up a school to push a message, same thing as Luigi Mangione
I saw someone reference an old saying in a different comment section about the CEO and I agree: "I will not celebrate the loss of life. But there are some deaths I shall not mourn"
I don't see why CEOs would need their own government hotline. They're not special. I think implementing one would just further sow a divide between us and them. It'd waste money too.
Also people would just troll it and make it essentially unusable like previous BS tip websites, cause this is clearly unnecessary. CEOs have enough money to have bodyguards at all times and can protect their damn selves
Exactly. They’re millionaires. If they need therapy or security then they can easily pay for it themselves. Put that money towards helping the homeless people who fell into medical debt live through the winter
I have worked with at risk teens and as a mandatory reporter who would have kids in a emergency shelter inform me of any abuse that they experienced. I would report it to 911 or the local nonemergency line that every police and sheriff have. Then I wrote a report to file with LE/CPS. I can assure you 911 is the number you are talking about. They then report it to the proper authorities.
I’m pretty sure (no experience with this) but if you have a restraining order and someone is violating it, they are told to report it by calling 911, right? Sounds crazy if they wouldn’t… how else can they find out? Communication is key.
Yeah, I went straight to the comments after seeing that to see if I just entered fucking crazy land or something. Glad to see I'm not the only one who wouldn't take the moralistic highroad over arbitrary nonsense when that CEO was a fucking monster, a demon, pure evil and a mass murderer who got away with it legally while padding his pockets. He was anything but innocent and getting killed doesn't change that.
The terrorism charge to Mangione bothers me. Mainly because I cannot recall ever seeing terrorism charges on any of the hundreds of school shootings we gave in the US. Maybe one or two of non-school mass shootings. I feel they want to throw the book at him.

Oh yes a special hotline for CEOs that can easily afford security guards but not the hundreds of children and their families who are traumatised from school shootings. What an absolute joke.
It's called capitalism, they have a fiduciary obligation to their stockholders to earn the most money. Every industry does it, are we going to go after every ceo? The CEO was not just some innocent guy. He was directly responsible for the deaths of thousands. Murdering a murderer isn't right, but I don't think they were on the same level.
@UpQuick he was the big pusher behind their AI model that turned down more than a third of all of their claims. He wanted it instituted to save more money, but not paying legitimate claims. He helped force people into financial ruin. He is not the sole reason all of those people died, but a significant number of them are dead just because he didn't want to supply the service they had been paying for.
I don't think we should try to deny the terrorism charge - but try to link this act as one that is covered under our civil rights and liberties. We should be able to depose our government if our government doesn't have the majority's support.
They slap terrorist to people they don't want to let people listen to. It's basically "bad guy" and "don't listen even tho what they say might be valid."
The big thing nobody talks about in the Luigi case is how quick they could find him but when a regular citizen is killed it takes months or years to get the support he got because he was a CEO
Millions were likely spent on this particular incident. A city would go broke if they dedicated the same amount of money, technology and manpower on every murder. Not trying to downplay your point, because I'm sure you really meant equal resources on every case. To be fair, the media did most of the police work on this case as well. The media doesn't cover all unalivings the same.
It evoked terror in the top 1% and their little lap dogs. No poor person was afraid of Luigi, just the cops who would never put even 10% of the energy the cops pulled to find him.
Most people are afraid of the idea he represents. Vigilantes are dangerous for society. Skipping due process for personal justice is scary, because if it is celebrated then noone knows where the line is drawn.
@@jessew3047 The line somehow got drawn behind people who kill with paperwork, and in front of people who have little to no power. (Not saying this directly at you, but this is the problem that makes me want to yell it out of a window at this point)
@rosenrot234 what do you mean true justice against the rich? If a person reaches 1 million dollars in net worth he has to be arrested? How can you like success while punishing people who did succeed, because poor good rich bad?

Calling Brian Thompson an "innocent person" is laughable. Just because he's not the one delivering the final blow doesn't mean he doesn't have blood on his hands.
Exactly. If your actions cause the deaths of people, innocent people like those who are denied treatments that would improve their quality of life - you are not innocent, you are guilty and sometimes god can’t do all the work 😩🙏🏻.
The CEO never denied care. He was an accountant who climbed the corporate ladder and much of his career wasn't even in health insurance. He's a CEO--basically just a figurehead and spokesperson for the company. Any operational decisions he's making is at the guidance of more specialized leaders and the board of directors (who hold the real power). You may still think it's a moral crime to work for a shady company, but you also wouldn't turn down the opportunity and pay.
That story about the East Bay Womens Prison was absolutely sickening. The horrors of the carceral system both in the US and my own home in Australia never cease to disturb me.
What Luigi did was expose the true nature of our country that was previously known but not said out loud. We live in an oligarchy, and our real rulers are the people who line the pockets of our politicians to maintain a layer of separation and plausible deniability. If Brian Thompson was a homeless man, the larger American public never would have heard a single word about it, and not a single detective would've worked the case. But because he was a wealthy CEO, the entire country's resources were in overdrive to catch Luigi. I don't condone murder, but I'm glad that we as a country are finally talking about the corruption in the systems.
I have so many thoughts about this. Sometimes, the sacrifice of the innocent lamb is necessary if a pack of wolfs is following you and your innocent lamb, your life would be more important. In this case, we can all agree that the health system is corrupted. We all know what is going on, but we all are scared to do something about it since the law or government is not doing anything. What is our responsibility as a citizen? Why are we voluntarily getting fucked? It takes a lot to shake the system. Maybe someone with enough courage/stupidity/bravery? To come up to the conclusion to send a message by killing someone else. Who could be innocent, and he just happened to be the innocent lamb 😢
couple thoughts: 1. I did not feel terrorized when the CEO died, I never felt like my or my family was at threat. However, each day I get my kids up to go to school. I'm constantly fearful of if they will come back to me in body bags, yet our government doesn't seem to care about that. 2. I'm not surprised about the younger to older. My father has amazing health insurance, he was locked in to his insurance, under his insurance I paid 100 bucks for and ER visit, and 30 for visits to the doctor. After I turned 26, I got booted off and had to go on my own plan. My health insurance is significantly worse. To get an MRI, I need half a grand, it's $55 for doctors, and $300 if I go to ER, not to mention I am 10x more likely to be denied health care. That's the disparity here. We are significantly worse off now then our parents are.
It's still terrorism despite how yyou 'feel' He took a father away from his children. I would expect you as a parent to hav a heart here but yet here we are.
@user-kh7tg8my4n that's not terrorism. In fact, they are already talking about how the specific charge may not even go through, because he doesn't meet the definition of a terrorist according to New York's own law.
@@user-kh7tg8my4nIt’s actually not terrorism, and this is according to the law not feeling. NY law directly states that the intention has to be to coerce CIVILIANS. The Prosecution knows this and it is common place - though unethical IMO - to bring about a charge THAT YOU KNOW IS NOT GOING SUCCED IN COURT in order to deter copycats. You can say that the victims are the people coerced to copycat crime, but that’s not how victimhood works in the court of law unless you are an underage victim. This practice (bringing charges that are a stretch) most often than not, disservices the victim (💀 af) and the the victim’s family who deserve REAL CHARGES, not fake ones that can jeopardize the entire case.
Where was this urgency during the Uvalde shooting? CEO's are more important than a school full of kindergarteners is the messaging I get, which is truly a dystopian conclusion to come to.
If it was you or I who got shot almost nobody would care. It happens every single day, we never hear about the thousands of murders that take place in the US each year -- only the unique ones, or the ones that involve someone famous or rich, or where a lot of people are shot..... Only the most shocking make the newspaper. The rest are brushed under the rug and are nothing but statistics. Making such a huge deal out of THIS particular assassination is just an insult to everybody who isn't a rich CEO. They are telling us "you have to be in OUR class for us to care this much about you, you stinking plebs!" Luigi went after the ELITES, not the public. That is why he is not a terrorist.
Well, no one was talking about healthcare until Luigi did it. Countless peaceful protests got nowhere. But 1 violent act, and weeks later we are still talking about it
When a literal supervillain dies, the reaction of the government is to render more protection for supervillains. This really nails in the fact that we're living in the bad timeline. We need more heroes.
Even if Luigi is given a Guilty or Not Guilty sentence, people are gonna see him as a martyr and a symbol. This is a no win situation the CEOs/Politicians can't win in.
The reason there is no winning for rich ceos and politicians is because they are blatantly abusive to humanity. It's not about the fact that he is the one who is the symbol. It's because we all know, we just needed action to be done for most of us we vote and trust the system and some people don't. But seeing the reaction of them feeling scared of losing shows who they and what they are. The people aren't blind.
It hit me yesterday watching Josh Johnson's set about the situation, that Luigi is gonna have soooo many fans, not only because of what he did but because of how attractive he is. Like he'll probably have significantly more suitors than most serial killers, like Ted Bundy

Police officer here, not in New York /Pennsylvania so I'm not an expert on the laws of those states. However, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a legitimate challenge of the evidence law enforcement retrieved from Luigi during his arrest. Pennsylvania police need reasonable suspicion to stop or detain someone, even temporarily. If Luigi’s detention was based solely on his resemblance to a suspect in a photo, without additional evidence or behavior suggesting criminal activity, this might not meet the threshold for reasonable suspicion. This could make the detention legally questionable. Police in one state can detain individuals for crimes committed in another state if there is sufficient evidence or an active warrant. This is part of interstate cooperation and extradition procedures. However, if Pennsylvania police detained Luigi without a valid warrant or probable cause connecting him to the New York crime, the detention could be challenged. What probable cause existed to search Luigi and his bag? If the officers arrested/detained Luigi without probable cause/reasonable suspicion, any search conducted during or after the detention could be considered illegal. Probable cause is required to search personal property unless the search is justified under an exception (e.g., consent, exigent circumstances, or during a lawful arrest). Without proper cause, the evidence retrieved (e.g., cash, fake ID, or weapon) might be suppressed. The "fruit of the poisonous tree" doctrine applies to evidence obtained as a result of an illegal search, seizure, or detention. If Luigi’s detention is deemed unlawful, any evidence gathered directly because of it could be excluded from trial, unless the prosecution can show it would have been discovered through lawful means. Bodycam footage is critical in determining whether police actions were lawful. It can provide evidence of what the officers knew, observed, and said during the interaction, helping courts evaluate whether reasonable suspicion or probable cause existed. Three likely outcomes after bodycam is released 1: "He would've gotten away with it if he didn't talk to police" 2: "He would've gotten away with it if he didn't show a fake ID 3: "He was screwed the moment police saw him" Not legal advice, but if you invoke your 5th amendment right, you are more likely to avoid legal troubles. Unless it is a legal order, do not lower your mask(You can challenge everything in court) make the police ORDER you to give your ID(again, you can challenge everything in court) In conclusion, the legality of Luigi’s detention and subsequent evidence gathering would depend heavily on: The specific facts known to police at the time. The bodycam footage and its portrayal of events. Whether the detention met the standards of reasonable suspicion and probable cause. If the detention is deemed unlawful, there’s a strong chance the evidence could be excluded under the "fruit of the poisonous tree" doctrine.

"If you care a whole lot, you don't kill innocent people." I am pretty sure we would not be here if health insurance CEOs adhered to that one. They certainly did not care when rejecting claims that indirectly killed thousands every damn year. But because they were not personally pulling the IV out, they're "innocent"? THAT is what makes ME sick.
I only had a minor issue I was getting checked out for from the doctor. My doctor asked me from the doorway "what you got?" and exasperatedly came in when I couldn't stammer out my need in a few seconds. She then proceeded to complain to me that she's been constantly telehealth shoved in between all of her appts and can't keep up. She then asked if I had Googled my problem, spitballed that my physical reaction was probably tied to my existing mental health issues, and sent me on my way. I have friends that would never go back to a doctor if they got that treatment. Faith in health care is so low, healthcare is so expensive. Half assing more appointments, in person and telehealth, is not helping.
The class anger is going to boil over in this country much sooner than the 1% and the government anticipated, and they are AFRAID. I say they SHOULD be afraid.

Who could be innocent, and he just happened to be the innocent lamb 😢
couple thoughts:

Three likely outcomes after bodycam is released
1: "He would've gotten away with it if he didn't talk to police"
2: "He would've gotten away with it if he didn't show a fake ID
3: "He was screwed the moment police saw him"
Not legal advice, but if you invoke your 5th amendment right, you are more likely to avoid legal troubles. Unless it is a legal order, do not lower your mask(You can challenge everything in court) make the police ORDER you to give your ID(again, you can challenge everything in court)
In conclusion, the legality of Luigi’s detention and subsequent evidence gathering would depend heavily on:
The specific facts known to police at the time.
The bodycam footage and its portrayal of events.
Whether the detention met the standards of reasonable suspicion and probable cause.
If the detention is deemed unlawful, there’s a strong chance the evidence could be excluded under the "fruit of the poisonous tree" doctrine.
