Don't act like you're driving a truck, act like you're pulling a trailer.

I’m really enjoying following your journey. As a veteran of almost 3 decades, it’s interesting to see how things have changed. Trucking schools/training programs were not that prevalent in the ‘90 (at least up north)… I learnt by riding with a veteran for a few months until he felt I was ready to go it alone. Keep up the great work Dillon. 👍🏽

Thank you very much Mike 🙏 I’m really enjoying it so far. I’m about to head in here soon for the start of week 2. I would guess things have changed a lot in that time. You have a lot of experience! I enjoy your videos as well and I hope one day to be able to come and see Canada as well. They asked me if I had a passport for Canada. I don’t at the moment but I may do that in the future. They said it would open up opportunities for me. It’s good to hear from you Mike and I will continue posting weekly videos for this training and then, if my trainer allows me to, I plan to record the training experience as well when I’m in the truck. I plan to have a go-pro by then. Thank you for all of your help and you willingness to help me. That truly means a lot 🙏

I was wondering if you were going to have time during the week to make a video. It's a lot of information to soak in, in a short period of time. For the me the pre trip was hard to grasp. And when I went through our training we had to learn to double shift. I believe now pretty much all tractors are automatic. Well all the ones we have at work are automatic. Getting on the road was my favorite part. I'm sure you're going to enjoy it as well. It seems like you're getting down pretty well Dillon. Keep it up and good luck brother 🙏 I know you got this. I know your family is proud of you too...... If you have any questions, let me know and I'll try to help out......👍🤙🎉

It is a lot to soak in indeed, Kevin! I am really enjoying it so far though. 1 week down and 2 to go. This is probably a highlight of my life so far. I know it’s a huge step and it means a lot to me. Thank you so much for taking the time to be supportive like that 🙏 that means a whole lot. I do believe they have went to all automatics here, as you mentioned. I will be doing dry van as well. At least during my contract. I am thinking of doing flatbed later on if they have local jobs available in my area. I need to work on my right hand turns. They told us that we need to make sure we don’t hit the curb but also that we don’t cross over too far into the opposite lane. I felt pretty comfortable with backing cause I have pulled trailers for years, but it is definitely more of a challenge with a 53 foot trailer behind you haha. I am very happy that I decided to make this step and I look forward to the future. You have a lot of experience in this! If you have any advice at all I’ll be glad to take it! It seems that the pre trip is very important and then just making sure I drive correct on the CDL test. I found out yesterday that we have to parallel park as well. Any advice on that one?

    Hello Dillon,
I got my truck driving license years ago.
In Germany you have to do that, wanted to leave my job.
But then something in the company changed for me.
    I stayed there.
I had a driving license and was allowed to drive all types of trucks.
Unfortunately, your driver's license expires when you turn 50 and you have to go to school.
I used to drive a tow truck for my father...but only up to 7.5 tons.
    had fun.
I wish you much success with your project.
    Greetings from Germany
    Peter

Hello Peter! Sounds like you have a lot of experience with different types of trucks. I am looking forward to learning about them and getting some experience in them as well. I have also thought about trying to get a tow truck later, as you mentioned. Driving commercial vehicles is a great skill to have indeed. I liked your new video as well on your poulan saw. I hope you have been well and it’s always good to hear from you my friend. God bless 🙏
