I saw her (solo) live here in NJ back in 2001/2002 and I have to admit, she was just ok. She toured with Jurassic 5, Outkast and the Roots. Other great songs by them/her are Fu-Gee-La, Ready or Not and Do Wop (That Thing) and Everything is Everything. Another band I really like that has a female singer is the Pretty Reckless. They are probably more of what you like in terms of rock with songs like Heaven Knows, Take me Down, Back to the River and Death by Rock & Roll.

Fugees was short for Refugees. Fugees was also the nickname of this crew which was originally named The Violater Crew. They just changed the name somewhere in-between recording this album and after their previous stuff. L Boogie is the one singing but, she's better known as Lauryn Hill.

The Fugees is a HipHop group consisting of 3 members. Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel. Lauryn and Wyclef both sing as well and this was the single that highlighted Lauryn as the Stand out of the group early. Following this album which is called "The Score" Lauryn would go on to drop her solo album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" which is still today one of the most Prolific albums from our Culture and also it made her the 1st Hiphop artist to win Album Of The Year at the Grammys.

The singer is Lauryn Hill, & should also check out Doo-Wop (That Thing), from her album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hil. She is an amazing talent, as good a rapper as she is singer. Lauryn was actually bood on Showtime at the Apollo. A few years later she was featured in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, which starred Whoopi Goldberg. When you hear Lauren in the movie, her immense talent is obvious. The Fugees consisted of 3: Wycliffe Jean, Lauren Hill & Pras Michel. The 2 guys are Haitian descent.

My favorite female perfomer is Aretha Franklin. Her career began way back in the 1960's, and she gained the title of "Queen of Soul" early on. The song I would request is "Natural Woman" in the video where she performed at the Kennedy Center Honors (for Carole King) in front of former President Obama and his wife, Michelle. I think you'll like it. Aretha doesn't sing with an exceptionally high pitch, but she is wonderful and an absolute diva! p.s. She also plays the piano to begin the performance. 🖤🎹

Just so you know, most of the music from The Fugees (pronounced like Fuji) is rap. It’s a 3 person group with Lauryn who sings and raps (wait till you hear her rap!), Wyclef Jean who raps, and Praswell, who also raps. Listen to Ready or Not for another banger. And if you’d want to dig into Lauryn Hill more, she did a solo album after this that won Grammys!
First and maybe only woman rap artist to hit Diamond status and in the Guinness Book of World Records.
