- Dave Bexfield founded ActiveMSers.org after he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2006.
Multiple sclerosis is a disease where your body’s own immune system attacks its central nervous system. Over time, MS leads to increased disability and most studies have turned up lackluster recommendations for treatment. However, new research suggests that high-cardio exercise can improve neuroplasticity and help protect neuro-cognition, slowing down some of MS’s worst symptoms.
Dave has developed a physically active lifestyle and been educating his readers on the benefits of increased activity for people living with MS. He sat down with Inverse to explain the science behind how fitness dampens MS’s most damaging effects, such as brain atrophy and fatigue.

Great video Dave! That helped me understand a lot more about MS and I've known several people with MS for decades. Although we have talked many times by email, I have never heard your voice until now. I usually just read your blogs and laugh a lot. You and I have a very similar sense of humor. My punny jokes often go over peoples head or are not well received by my home audience. I make jokes in movie quotes.
Jokes that go over heads? My specialty! Yeah, we'd be trouble if our paths crossed. Look me up if you get to Albuquerque!
I'm double-checking my parachute, keeping gravy away from my cereal, and stopping with the excuses to not excercise. Great message Dave - you're an inspiration!
thanks so much, and yes, avoid the whole gravy thing!
This is well put together, I don’t have MS, but I know a lot more. Good job, I appreciate it
Bravo! You're preaching to the choir in this case, but confirmation that it's scientifically proven to help makes me more determined to keep moving. Rock on, bro
Excellent Valerie! If you aren't yet a member of our group of optimistic misfits, please check it out...
Great video Dave! I think I'll head out for a walk!
And perhaps make it a brisk one. :)
Smart brave man!
Excellent video Dave. Great work!
Thanks Greg, I appreciate it!
Great video! Your website is a great resource!
Oh, thanks so much, I appreciate it. :)
i dont have MS, but i really lovede the video, ill recommend this video and tell more people about it who have it, and even if they dont,
It's one of the top reasons for disability in young people (MS is typically diagnosed in your 20s and 30s).
I have had MS since 2003.. in wheelchair hope this can still help.
How does a video get 250k views and only 100 likes and 17 comments?
I wouldn't mind a few more likes and comments myself!
