Love these vintage documentaries. Information stated plainly and to the point, lots of technical details, great footage, and music used sparingly and tastefully.
Man these the sweetest cars ever. They just never looked or sounded any better than this here, The little 205, the AUDI. Man just so nostalgic to look at i grew up watching rallies in the early 90's as a kid. Seeing this again now, it's great. I used to watch the Poss in his Subaru Kiwi Rally Fan here
Let's not forget those RALLY-MECHANICS working under the sky in all weather conditions, day and night. My greatest respect for those guys that never get mentioned.
Was cheering Vatanen on in the Welsh forests in 84. Absolutely brilliant footage and showes once and for all that Audi were only winning against two wheel drive opposition and as soon as the T16 appeared they were no longer competitive. And yet they have milked that period for all its worth and really created the Audi brand. Marketing eh!!
The Peugeot is my favourite classic rally car, and I watch this because I'm a huge fan of classic rally so this peaked my interest enough for me to watch it and I cant stop watching it
In every bit of footage of Group B rallies in Continental Europe until the end of ‘86 you can be assured of seeing spectators seemingly doing their best to get themselves killed. Crazy days.
I can not imagine how much faster & difficult would have continue with the WRC Group-S which suppose to follow as next level mid-engine after Group-B.. so many secret prototypes that can be found in museums like : Audi Sport Group S, Peugeot 405 Turbo16 & Quasar, Lancia ECV1 & ECV2, Ford RS 200S, Mazda RX7S, Toyota MR-(222D), Lada Samara EVA, Seat ibiza bi-motor, Vauxhal Astra 4S/Kadett E-4S.. (Porsche, Talbot, Citroen & Mitshubishi dropped they 'r works very quickly after Group B banning but all were planning to enter in WRC Group-S..)
And that's the main reason they banned the Group B cars. It wasn't really the speed or the skill it took to drive them, it was the fact that spectators got whipped up into a frenzy and couldn't/wouldn't be controlled.
@@Wirefox1 Group B was banned due to the cars being too dangerous but also because of the spectators. There were many reasons but the main reason was the cars. Modern technology could bring group b back.
thanks for your channel and in uk you have all pieces of engine and all for english cars like in the usa good for you in france if you had a car of the seventies apart chinesse pieces of shit NOTHING ! happy week end to you
I digitise old rally videos for free. So the tapes are supplied to me by various people - some have found me through UA-cam, others through Twitter or Facebook. Glad you like the material I share here.
You know what, The way Peugeot 205 debuted in 1984 season was later repeated by Peugeot 206, when the 206 debuted in Corsica, Acropolis, Finland, San Remo and then RAC just like the 205 goes, and also it achieves success the following year for both 205 and 206
HAVE THIS ON TAPE FROM YEARS AGO SOMEWHERE ALONG WITH A LOT OF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDS OF SAME ERA ALL BE IT THEY ARE NARRATED IN FOREIGN LINGO ! GREAT UPLOAD NICE TO SEE AGAIN ! 👍👍👍
Unbelievably awesome video. Many thanks vhs rallies🤝👌👍🤜🤛. Rock n roll man🤘. This is absolute gold💯 and I'm only 13 seconds in! I wander how many of those road versions are left? A GTI on steroids💪. They must be a good £200k plus now. I'm probably way off. More probably. Rarer than chicken teeth! I've seen lancia 037 road versions North of £300k
@@chrisbeare9486 I've never seen 1 in this country t16 or 037. I've only ever seen a legit rs200 driving c reg(early 86 when they 1st landed). It was about 1996 I saw the car literally driving normal down the road in North London. Pure white version. But I remember like it was yesterday. Even original Group A styled sierra (rs500 or not) and escort cosworths and lancia deltas are fetching 80 to 100 grand plus. They are absolutely amazing cars. 👍
@@chrisbeare9486 it's kind of laughable that r200 were like 18 grand brand new in 86 and a sierra cosworth 16 grand. They are more valuable now than some houses
@@lukaswilfinger8752 cool. my estimate wasn't far off then🤘. I'm not religious and even though ari vatanen never won the title in the 205,,he is still god to me for the way he drove that car. Unbelievably awesome. I still get goosebumps watching this stuff. Makes the current day version of wrc look like Thomas the tank engine. I still can't believe how good it was!!👍
There is footage somewhere of a T16 in a service stop in Portugal, I believe having a mechanic remove 2 very cooked, spectator fingers from the rear intake radiator 😬
9:47...it's stocktaking time (brilliant! ) . No disrespect to the excellent commentary by Julian porter in the current day version but I way prefer the way this sport was presented back then and right up to about 02 to be fair. It was fine as a half hour end of day summary for each leg on eurosport or something. They have tried to make it too live and in your face now and it feels a lot more repetitive. I don't like the current day "power stage" thing either. Driver's points were a lot harder to earn back then and only the top 6 scored. The restart rules are a joke too. If a car crashes out? That should be it! I don't rate the likes of ogier and loeb as highly as Alen, Toivonen, Vatanen and Rohl by a long shot. And although helicopter shots are good.. They are completely over saturated now and that boring/almost depressing sound of the helicopter blade spinning round like a bloody giant lawnmower with the throttle stuck open. It was way classier and more watchable here.
A company in Monaco now owns all the footage shot for Peugeot. Real shame they have no interest in releasing the archive.
Very interesting to hear.

I will forever remember Boreham's Mick Jones among the cream of live stage rally mechanics.

Wow! What incredible and amazing historic footage! Well done Monsieur Mourey, just like CLIMB DANCE, this does justice to PTS.
The Peugeot is my favourite classic rally car, and I watch this because I'm a huge fan of classic rally so this peaked my interest enough for me to watch it and I cant stop watching it
Best rally channel on the tube

Heard that one so many times, without any official evidence, that I've long since filed it under urban myth. But it's a great bar tale.
Good one
Quality upload!
If I was hiring a guy to do the voiceover for a video about my homologation special, I'd make sure he could say "homologation"!
I heard Peugeot 504 and 206 won WRC 2 wheels category thrice in a raw before pulled out of the race?
Awesome video! Anymore?
Thanks for that really enjoyable
Go on.. Say Audi again
