  • Here are some tips and tricks to get you started. How to kit out your car with what you need. A bed base which needs no timber, no screws to fix it together. Makeshift toilet and washing facilities. Plastic storage boxes that fit under the bed. Simple cooking facilities. Basically no cooking required, simple food. Privacy not a problem with blacked out windows in the back.

    I car camped for 3 months traveling from northeast USA to southwest in the middle of winter, quite against my childrens wishes. I did become ill, as they feared I might, while I was traveling and had to return home. I did love it though. I don’t think they would allow it again and I don’t have the same passion for it as I did 4 years ago. I wanted to go indefinitely, but I’m glad I saw what I did, enjoying many states. Thanks for the memories. ❤️

    I enjoy car camping, did 10 days around Scotland, I had a pee pot for the night, I used toilets during the day where ever I was. I am doing it again this summer if I can, I want to go for 2 weeks during the holidays. I am on the verge of being made homeless I think, and I might end up living in it full-time. I always use my teddy bear bedding and am really comfy. I also have a utility tent, and I use a toilet bucket in the car when it's not in use. Toilet talk is very necessary in a car or van lol, love your set up... As is keeping clean, and how to do that in a car.... I have a Ford fusion, so not much room.. but does fit a 2.6ft wide mattress... And I can use a tent and go to a camp site if needed.

    Ilona that is very helpful. You are quite right-we all need to go. I car and tent camp and a couple of years ago I bought a carp life folding toilet. I use the powder sachets that turn the liquid to gel and it’s then really easy to dispose of. Thanks! 👍

    We do similar re the ablutions. For the no.2 ,coconut coir is a useful thing to have as you can sprinkle it on and its very absorbent(keeps pongs at bay). There is a camping chap from japan called coupy channel and he uses a squat toilet with disposable bags which is very similar to what you do. I camp with hubs in our van and we use one of those pee bottle funnel things that can be used by either gender and collect in a large bottle at the other end of a piece of fuel hose. That works quite well if you must wait to dispose of your results any length of time.

    My daughter keeps saying that she would like us to try and car camp for a night or two by the coast. I was telling her about you and how you seem to enjoy it. We like the south coast and the prices for a hotel or B & B is so high. I have been collecting things over the past few months so we can give it a go. I am just waiting for the weather to get a bit warmer as I feel it would be so cold at night at the moment. Thank you so much for your lovely uploads as they are so up lifting.

    Hi Ilona, this is so funny, I just ordered before I watched this, an emergency toilet for the car of Amazon. My dread is especially now my bladder is a nightmare and I'm often stuck in traffic, like on the M25 or should I say a massive carpark and needing to pee. This often happens where you can't even pop out of your car and go in the bushes which there never is any bushes. This also happens when you're no where near services. So looking forward to my Amazon delivery. Any way you're very well organised.
    Take care xxxx

    Wet wipes are very handy and I agree with you using the pads to save having to change underwear every day. I buy fat balls for the wild birds and the plastic buckets have a tightly fitting lid. Very handy for toilet needs. I travel with my large dog so also use them for carrying his drinking water and storing his food. My car is a hatchback so even more limited headroom, definitely familiar with the dressing in bed 😂

    Not a problem, when I have a vintage Mini Cruiser RV. Some of us like being able to stand up, and move around. I get excellent mileage and as the RV is only 22ft long plus a couple of metal boxes on the back, I can still park in a single car parking space. Not interested in roughing it at this decade of life, and I love enjoying State and National Parks in comfort. But, you go right ahead, if that's how you like to travel. However, I always love upgrading, and finding useful toys to play with along the way, mostly found at Thrift Stores. Just about anything a person needs to know about all kinds of camping can be found on Cheap RV Living by UA-camr Bob Wells, along with all other aspects of nomadic living including how to manage normal body functions for those who share a facsination with the topic...LOL You could buy yourself a little 12 volt mini oven that plugs into your lighter socket. No steam, if you take it outside to open. I always carry an electric travel kettle and an electric power pack in my car, being able to warm up prepared foods, or make instant soups, coffees and other beverages saves on stopping at coffee shops and the like. I also have a butane hotplate and several propane stoves for different purposes. Latest toy is a Coleman oven to use on top of the Coleman stove.

    Looking forward to seeing your camping adventures though I won’t be doing anything like it as our car is quite small for doing that I think. But I enjoy actual camping and have done camping abroad in Nepal and Tuscany. Used to do camping as a kid a lot and even just camped in the garden during the summer holidays. Love those memories x

We have had campingbusses but sinds I'm alone now I just have mh regular car...its a SAAB combi so it is quite big.

    Hi Illona. Great vid. 1 question @ sleeping , do you take your passenger car seat out of the car to lay out your sun bed? Trying to figure out how you lay it out

    • @meanqueensuperscrimper8908
      @meanqueensuperscrimper8908  4 місяці тому +2

      No modification required in my Ford Focus estate. The back seats fold down flat. I slide the front passenger seat forward and wind the back adjuster so it tilts forward. This gives it the few extra inches required. Nobody is going to sit in it anyway. The sunlounger bed folds in three places and when fully extended it fits perfectly in the space, and the tailgate can be fully closed.

    Very helpful! I was hoping you would do some videos on more specific aspects of using your car for camping. Here’s a somewhat silly question - does it get a bit stifling sleeping overnight with all of the windows closed and no moving air inside? I have taken short naps in my car in long road trips during the day and when I wake up I notice it’s a bit stifling.

    Hi Ilona, have you thought of a bedpan with a lid?

    • @meanqueensuperscrimper8908
      @meanqueensuperscrimper8908  4 місяці тому +2

      I had several ideas before I came up with this one. Bedpans remind me of hospitals. If a number 1 and 2 are to be done, they need to be kept separate. Makes it easier for disposal.
