Pack the car up, take bed, washing facilities, and food. Going to North Yorkshire. Had three smashing conversations. Two with people I have never met before, and one with a lady I met previously in Beverley. Walking alone means you never know who you are going to bump into, and you can strike up a conversation with anybody.

Winterton Agricultural Show has been in existence for 152 years. This very popular North Lincolnshire show draws visitors from all the surrounding villages and towns. The Parade starts in the centre of Winterton and makes it's way down King Street and Park Street, to finish at the Showground.

Reading books, watching videos, chatting online is fine up to a point, but there is something missing. To get the full story, the full picture, there is another ingredient which will fill in all the gaps. Facial expressions and body language. Hello. Are you taking part in the walk 1000 miles in one year challenge? If so, you can check in here and let us know how you are getting on. After six months we should be at the 500 mark. I have to confess I am a little bit behind. I have a lot of catching up to do over the next six months.

Erm . . . . no not really. My time is taken up with making art and crafts, walking for exercise, walking a friends dog, litter picking, looking after cats, shopping, days out and holidays, working in the garden, two morning coffee clubs, working on the computer, research, blogging and yoootooob. Phew, I like to be busy.

A sunny Sunday afternoon. Lovely to sit on a park bench and watch people enjoying themselves. Mums and dads with children, kicking a ball about. People walking their dogs. Happy families sitting around a picnic. Pensioners strolling along the paths. Getting outside in nature is important for good mental health.

This is the last morning of a four day trip to the Lake District. Fun and games last night with a dodgy parkup.

After an unusual parkup at Ravenglass, the next morning I had a look at the Railway. There wasn't time to go for a ride on a train, because there was so much more I wanted to see. Heading into Barrow I followed the signs for Furness Abbey. It is not easy to find. Traffic was very busy. It was mid afternoon and it was chucking out time for the schools. The Abbey is managed by English Heritage, it was £8 to get in. I'm glad I made the effort to stop and have a look around. It was amazing.

Driving down the coast road towards Barrow, I spotted a church high on a hill. Let's go and have a look. There was free parking on the shore of Morecambe Bay, with a short blustery uphill walk into the village of Bardsea. Luckily the door was not locked. Come inside with me.

The Haverthwaite Railway goes to Lakeside and back. There is the option of buying a ticket which includes a boat trip to Bowness, then onto Ambleside. I decided not to do that because I didn't have time, and the wind was going to make it a very cold crossing. A single ticket on the train there and back was £11.

I saw a sign for Haverthwaite and Lakeside Railway and thought it would be a good place to explore. The turning for it was on the right hand side and I missed it. I turned left and thought I would go back to it, so I parked there. The church was plain and the door was locked, but what I found was a little gem, a beautiful churchyard. Heading across the country to the Lake District. My first park up is at Killington Lake Service area on the M6. £13 for 24 hours, all facilities available. It was a nice steady drive across Yorkshire and the scenic Dales. A1M north to Bedale and a break at Leeming Services. Then take the A684 through Leyburn, Aysgarth, Hawes, stopping for a break at Sedbergh because I haven't been there before....
