- Codename Kids Next Door had Cartoon Network doing its best work. The network has seen shifts since the shows premiere but codename kids next door episodes are still watched to this day. There has even been talk of KND making it back on the air at some point. What stands the test of time, however, is the way it utilized the creativity of its talent to create something genuinely unique. Not gonna lie, im 24 now and that ending scene of the KND saying goodbye still gets me. Too many childhood friends I don’t talk to anymore for no reason.

ChocoGamin3 don’t keep to yourself. I hardly talk to any of my friends from high school but that’s just me. I do well on my own. But don’t limit the amount of friends you can have just because you might lose them. Especially during high school, there will never be a more social time in your life than now. And if you don’t try to enjoy it, you’ll regret it. You won’t have memories to think back on. You’ll miss opportunities that you’ll never get again. I’m 24 and can say my friends made high school one of the best times of my life
KND had an unnecessarily huge amount of back story that was actually pretty good.

The fact that the delightful kids from down the lane were revealed to be top tier KND operatives in their hayday was absolutely shocking to me. This show was top tier
Does this mean that the DCFDTL A. K. A. Sector Z are immortal? Since they were children being delightfulized back when Numbuh 0 was still very well known, but when they show back up Monty & Father are grown ups.
@@J__T I don't think so- Father said he personally Delightfulized them with a machine that blew a fuse that amped up the power "eleventy-billionfold," making the effects unable to truly be reverted, even with the Recommissioning Module. It's possible that they may no longer be able to grow up because the machine made them into the perfect Delightful CHILDREN; if they were legendary missing operatives- who we can assume have been gone for at least a few years- then they should probably be teens by that point in the series. How ironic would that be? So eager to grow up, yet being forever unable to.

Id say the one of the main reasons that shows like KND, Ed edd n eddy, courage the cowardly dog and OG spongebob were so full of quality and loved by viewers young and old is because they were hand made with care in an era where families often shared one screen in their homes

Once my dad came home, he didn’t really put up with it and would take the control and put on boring news. Much like Father from KND
No that's not it. Late 70z and 80s had the same setup as the 90s and that is considered the dark age of cartoons. Where shows were just long commercials to sell toys and were mostly dumb shelock. The simple answers is they just cared period.
They were creator-driven. That's what made them so good. Creators were able to let loose and do what they want.
My house had three tvs. I watched my cartoons alone and so did my sister. And we both love Spongebob.
Why were these cartoons good?
Because they were 100% UNIQUE and werent afraid to be "Weird" sometimes.

I think the decommissioning memory wipe is a brilliant way to represent how, when you're a kid, it can seem like the adults around you have no memory of what it was like to be your age at all, like what they are is separate from what you are completely
Why are there no shows like this anymore? Kids having that mindset that being a kid is the greatest. Which is true. Kids nowadays are just rushing to grow up.
Unfortunately kids these days have to grow up fast...especially where I grew up.
I had to grow up fast because of my situation as a child, but this show and so many others on Cartoon Network at the time got me through my tough childhood and helped me stay in a tiny bubble of being just a normal kid for once, even if it was for 11 minutes. I think that's why I've always loved cartoons and anime.

Because of the rise and popularity of social media and streaming services. Back then, we didn't have that so I guess that's why Cartoon Network had wonderfully crafted, fun, and yet plot-driven cartoons. Nowadays, they pump out mindless shows just for a quick buck rather than to entertain.

One thing I really enjoyed about KND was that they gave all of the main characters their own episodes (meaning on occasion no one except for the focus character was there or everyone else got a quick cameo if not a small part) which explored who they were and what they did outside of KND.

Austin Hinton Yeah those episodes were the best especially when it had her competing or fighting against Stickybeard or with Henrietta. It was cool seeing their dynamic with each other.
@@Gunfighter150 I agree. Her relationship with Stickybeard was probably one the most interesting to me, because they didn't always have an antagonistic relationship to one another, but occasionally one of mutual respect.
Heck, I remember in one episode, Stickybeard specifically asks for her help when the licorice pirates came and he realized he couldn't handle them alone.
That was probably one of the most interesting episodes to me because it showed that even enemies can have respect for one another and even ask for each other's help at times.
Not to mention her relationship with Cree.
By far the most interesting yet saddest sibling relationship I've ever seen on television.
yeah watching this show again and it amazes me that each of the kids got their own episodes and showed what they liked or did outside of KND.
@@leirawhitehart1236 Numbuh Five really was the most interesting out of the squad. Her sister was a traitor to their group and is one of their biggest enemies almost destroying it several times over. Then she had an episode that explored in depth why some soon to be decommission members turn rogue instead of retiring willingly and remember she would had fully cross the line of betraying the knd if Maurice didn’t prove she could still be an ally when she gets older.
At one point she was the leader instead of Numbuh 1 which makes sense when you remember how many episodes had her call out his bad decisions or ridiculous assumptions which makes you wonder just how did she mess up so bad by being so mission focus that she made him get captured and permanently lose his hair.
Although Sector V had a mixed reputation with the other KND for being the most successful and unruly squad of the KND, she still is a heavily respected member. Numbuh 86 gave her respect during her debut episode even if it was from her misogyny but when she tried to find someone to temporarily replace Numbuh 1 as leader, she immediately back down when Numbuh 5 cited her guilt for her last run as leader and demanded for Numbuh 2 or 3 to take over if not her.
in mexico they called it " los chicos del barrio" literaly translates to " the boys from the hood" lol
in brazil the name was very similar

In this sense the title actually translates to "The Kids in the Neighborhood"

One of the strengths of KND, I think, is that it recognized the need to expand upon it's initial premise. If it had just stayed where it was in Season 1, with just the main crew in the treehouse, it probably would have been decent, but by expanding the premise to a much larger scale, making it a global organization with millions of members, it opened up the door to so many more story ideas and characters to explore. Plus, we got to know our main cast much better along the way, seeing more facets of their personalities and their relationships with the people around them. I think they took the show about as far as it needed to go (though, admittedly, I started to lose track of it around season 6) and ended on a pretty strong note. I don't necessarily think it needs a revival/sequel series, but if there's enough there for it to work and feel worthwhile, I'd be fine with it.
@Shaman Xeed Honestly, though, it ran for six seasons and had a pretty solid finale, so I don't think it has anything left to prove. It's often better when a series knows it's run its course. Plus, while the show did well and has plenty of fans, I don't think it quite has the same brand recognition as a Dexter or a Powerpuff or an Ed, so bringing it back could be risky.
@Shaman Xeed I just think KND is in this weird sort of place popularity-wise. Yes, it clearly did well, but I feel like bringing it back with them as adults would be risky. Kids now haven't really seen KND, so it wouldn't really relate to them, and the adults that did might not be a big enough audience now (there are fans, yes, but not every kid that watched the show back then is still gonna be interested in it as an adult).
yes its like teen titans in that way...sure it has its core 5 team members main characters but by expanding who they hang with for a certain week or where the story goes we learn more about them too and the world...so yeah you can tell more stories that way ..its hard after like 20 eps to do the same thing over and over again ..thats why you gotta respect courage and ed edd and eddy..they knew how to switch it up...
no no no no guys, what needs to happen is for them to bring back the original and make it as accessible to watch as possible. Same with all the classic cartoons.
I don't think it would work outside of the 90's - 00's backdrop art style included, there's just so many little bits that make knd knd that i genuinely think cannot be replicated in this children's media climatee

They have one for Boomerang, it's on VRV, but yeah, I wish they would get rid of Cartoon Network Video and their shows on Hulu and Netflix and just have their own service. They don't even update what's on Hulu anymore.

What I love about KND is that it teaches kids that no matter how old you get, you should never forget your childhood and the person that made you what you are today. My own childhood and my entire life sucks, but when I always felt down or depressed, animation is what always brought me back from the darkness that is reality. Codename: Kids Next Door was a fantastic show, because it shows that kids can have wild imaginations, but they also should be treated with respect as well. The problem nowdays is that too many kids are wanting to become adults, but never realise how much time they still have to enjoy their childhoods, before getting into stuff like high school, college and work. Because when you become older, you have less freedom to do the things you love doing in your free time. You should enjoy the free time that you have as a kid, because those moments won't last forever, better enjoy your childhood while you still can, because you won't have a second chance afterwards.
That final line from the finale made me tear up as a kid....

Basically, its set up like how Ed gives up his alchemy to save Al and promotes the values of sharing in the manga, except the plot revolves around candy.
Oh, and they didn't do it before the finale premiered, the creator obvious followed either the manga or the original Japanese releases.

I told my girlfriend about Battle Ready Armor. She had never seen KND Before but as I told her about that episode she couldn’t stop laughing and couldn’t believe it was a kids show. Then I realized how much this show did jokes that really only older people would understand, it was truly genius and hilarious to rewatch the older you get

Our culture ridicules behavior or interests in adults that seem "childish." To be honest, it isn't about the interests you have. Maturity is about knowing what you want in life and knowing how to achieve that, not always taking the easiest way out, but having the strength to account for your actions and be an active force. You can make sure you take care of all the necessities in life like work, bills, family, etc., but make sure to schedule in time to do something a little more fun. Even watch KND if you want. Except for very childish shows meant for kids 0-6 (you know, the ones that talk down to their audience and try to be as educational as possible), etc., I've never stopped loving, enjoying, and analyzing these cartoons I grew up with. They hold more meaning to me now in fact because of videos like this.

Hear, hear! I think as an adult, you can appreciate more the creativity and the underlying message in a way you wouldn't as a kid - cuz as a kid, you're just enjoying it. A show like "KND" fits that perfectly: as a kid, you're enjoying it cuz that IS your world; as an adult, it's a fun look at the creativity and imagination of a kid's mind, as well as a bit of nostalgia. We ALL remember taking ordinary things or places and turning them into amazing inventions through fantastic flights of fancy. A single room becomes a multi-roomed, multi-storied headquarters; a seat in the backyard becomes the world's most sophisticated car or plane; the local neighborhood becomes exotic locales and time periods; and everyday objects become inventive tools. That's what made childhood so fun! It's kind of fun to look back, even while watching your own or others' kids do it. For a moment, you're immersed in their world - and your past.
even the early childhood stuff has its place. true, they often talk down to the audience so much that an adult cant watch more than a couple of episodes at a time, but early childhood shows have a very unique, wholesome feel not really matched by much else. Some are also significantly better than others. As one example, i remember the show "max and ruby", with more society based lessons than your standard math or languages, and it also respected its young audience enough where i could actually enjoy episodes on sick days for memories of simpler times. Again, i am not saying it is worth it to go out of your way to watch them, but they do have a place in keeping sanity in the stress of the "adult world".

this one hit me right in the feels. i turned 13 on the the day of the last episode.
I think one of the most subtle references they ever pulled off in this show was when Numbuh 1 crash landed in a deserted paradise for kids but then figured out that he was under mind control and clicked his heels together to activate his rocket boots to get out of the dream. I took me years to realize that although the rest of the episode isn’t referencing it, that specific plot point of clicking his heels together to wake up from a dream is from the Wizard of Oz.
That Numbuh 1 speech still brings tears to my eyes. Cartoons like these just don't exist anymore. Probably never will. Pity. KND was one of the legendary shows.
As a kid I always thought of myself as an official member of KND. To this day, I refuse to grow up and let my inner child die.

My guess is lemon. It would fit in terms of color, plus the sour flavor is distinct from the creaminess of vanilla, the richness of chocolate, or the sweetness of strawberry.

I remember being a kid and wishing to keep the memories of my emotions towards things that I felt adults couldn't understand or I should say forgot they had at one point in my mind so I could create my very own kids show that would make perfect sense when anyone viewed it, and could experience that nostalgia again.

KND is one the most solid pieces of fiction I've ever seen! It is very unfortunate that we'll never get Galactic Kids Next Door, but I still love what we have!

The best way to sum up the uniqueness of that show, is a Live action cartoon. I can't think of any live action show that has moments like it, I love it.
Pre-middle school me loved every episode.

If I had to choose it would be between Ned's Declassified and Wakfu.

Some of my friends sometimes critisize me for being childish and watching cartoons and playing video games and stuff (not that modern adults don't do it but ok) but after watching this video I'm kinda proud of myself.

Rewatched the entire series a couple months ago and it's still my favorite cartoon after all these years. How creative it was and how it parodies the action spy genre through the lens of childhood woes and imagination...
Here's hoping the proposed G:KND sequel gets picked up eventually.

Somehow I hated all of the characters in Billy and Mandy and still liked the show. I guess the whole was better than the sum of its parts lol.
I voted for it when it was a pilot they might pick up. I was rallying behind it! When it got picked up I was ecstatic and watched it endlessly.
My wife is a little bit younger than me, and caught syndicated reruns of it. It's her favorite cartoon and she wasn't there to vote for it to continue.
I don't know I just think there's something really cool about the fact that kid me voting for a show I wanted more of could help shape an entire childhood.

I grew up in a poor household (we were blessed to have one tv and a family member that payed for the cable) and was extremely sheltered and never really got to go places so watching cartoons really helped. During the day I'd watch cartoons and at night I'd stay up sometimes to watch anime like bleach and dragon ball z. I remember wanting to grow up fast so that I could go out more and escape poverty and now that I'm older, I really appreciate being able to grow up with cartoons. Wish I could go back to being a kid for one more day

What the heck, I don't remember any of these episodes. I just remember numbah 3 constantly screaming WAAAAAAALLLLLY and the Super Rainbow Monkies...and I think there was one episode where numbah 5 got sick.

KND ended when I turned 13 and I remember feeling like it was my fault lol. I design characters nowadays at 29 and I feel like shows like this have left a great and positive impact on how I look at my creative work. Bless this show 💕
I remember being blown away by the fact that KND had a moonbase and that the war being fought was on a global scale. I thought it was awesome. No other show on television at the time was performing at the scale KND was, at least for me. Everything from the pirates raiding the moonbase in the movie to the Death Star parody when raiding the middle school with hundreds of their own ships was amazing.

something that I loved about the show was how ingenious they were at creating things. things that a child (in a way) could create. It was as if creatives really thought like children and lived their imagination. That's something that really influenced a lot, since every friend I had told me "hey, look, I created this weapon with a pencil and chewing gum and I call it" pencilgumer ".It was something great and they told you about the phases that you were going to go through after your childhood. I can't express how great they tackled all of that.
This show, just like all of the other shows that came out during that golden age of the 2000's, was amazing and still is to me.
I'm going to be 20, and I still watch these kinds of cartoons. Just a couple of weeks ago I lost my mind and turned back into my 12 year old self when I found the entire first season of Teen Titans on sale. And when I got home and watched it, for just awhile I was brought back to a simpler time. Back to not having to worry about bills and finding a job or anything like that. If I can ever find Corage the Cowardly Dog, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Codename Kids Next Door, or the rest of the Teen Titans episodes on DVD you can bet your ass I'll get them all

I was waiting for you to touch on this. CodeName kids next door doesn’t get talked about nearly as much as it should. By far one of my favorites. Always had me wishing and hoping I’d get called in to be a KND operative.
This show is a huge part of my childhood. Captured emotions that I wasn’t familiar with at the time, but became familiar with over time. Times changing, growing up, etc. Knd is a legendary series.
I have to say, I’m no where near old enough to have watched this show all the way. But I do know that the few episodes I saw when I was younger I will always remember. This show was and is like my dream/life. Seeing the ending without ever even watching the whole show still hit me really hard.

Not likely since no one is begging for gknd now. Maybe a few years there might have been a slight chance but it's basically fucked for now.
People may rag on bronies and sonic fans for their weird behavior and fanaticism but they at least made it clear to the beeps in charge how much they love or hate those series by doing fanart, animations, songs, fan games etc. But classic cn, nick and Disney series don't get that kind of showmanship.
Where are the danny phantom fan animations? Where the courage the cowardly dog fan comics? Where is the American dragon jake long fan game?

And sure you might find a few out there if you're lucky but those few are so miniscule in comparison to the massive amount of content bronies and sonic fans have created and still create even to this day that they, practically, might as well not exist.
Someone animated that sweet teaser of numbuh in the gknd but if I recall there was either one other person that did the same or it was that only one. And the teaser with numbuh's 3 and 4 never got that treatment. Why not?
I bet my life that bronies and sonic fans would've made a million animations for those, leading up to those and continuing from where those left off.
The beeps in charge most likely see it as an unprofitable sequel to invest in because people only want it back for nostalgia alone and not nostalgia with investment. Why make 26 episodes of a series for adults that are only going to watch 5 episodes at max and have new kids be totally uninterested because they have no clue what they're even watching?
Point being, would people actually watch the galactic kids next door series if it got greenlit?

I swear this was one of my favorite shows of all time next to flapjack and chowder this was top tier heck let me bring out my fandom alright i use to went to this wedding when I was little and I told everyone there why this was my favorite show and why I am number four man you even know that was the most embarrassing thing I ever done in my life still no regrets to this day for doing it 😎
Seeing this video and reminiscing over the memories of this show makes me proud that being 32 years old, most people I know say I'm a big kid. As much adulting I actually do in my life, I'm glad I never lost that fun, child-like side of me. I suspect that I never will.

This show just does not get talked about enough by the animation community. It deserves more love and attention
only now after watching this video have I finally looked at all the storyboards posted for KND and as an artist they're so amazing! The creator had an amazing sense of shot direction and making scenes not feel dull or mundane! As an artist these seem like amazing things to learn from! What an amazing creator and team for bringing this show to life

Oh god, who els almost cried at the end
Man you gonna make me cry with this nostalgia. KND got me to love working on stuff and driving. Numbah 2 a dope mechanic and pilot, and I wanted to be just like him. Now I got a daily, a project car, and a garage full of motorcycles in all states of repair (or disrepair). Maybe it's because I was a kid, but this show really was something special to me.
I love this channel just for putting in the effort to produce respectable video essays on deserving shows from my childhood that never seemed to be given a serious look anywhere else.
Also, #86 doing the "decommissioning" via flipping a breaker switch was a dark reference i didnt get as a kid lol
