    Hi there!
I'm Emily and I had a late diagnosis of Inattentive ADD (a type of ADHD) just two months after my 30th birthday. Finding out I was neurodivergent was scary and exciting, but now I'm ready to start treatment!
In this video, I vlog my eighth week on Concerta, with this being my fifth week on a 36mg dose. I talk about my side effects, benefits and improvements. In this vlog, I ugly cry and get real about rejection-sensitivity and dysphoria. I have not one, but two breakdowns! One of the emotional kind, the other of a more practical variety!
I'm moving house in this vlog too - so watch along to see how I cope with the demands on my executive functions (eg: packing up my house!) and the stress. I do feel like Concerta had some effect, although I am considering increasing my dosage.
Concerta XL is a prolonged/slow/long release stimulant medication (its scientific name is methylphenidate!) used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This medication is sometimes called Ritalin, Daytrana or Focalin - particularly in the US. Other ADHD medications that you might be familiar with are Vyvanse, Dexadrine and Adderall, which are amphetamines, rather than methylphenidates, however, they are all stimulants. This video shows my 6th week on the drug and highlights some of its effects on my mind, mood and body.
I will be continuing a vlog showing my experience with ConcertaXL as I test out my current dose and through the titration period. (Started on 18mg, now taking 36mg).
Whether you're considering starting Concerta XL, have already begun treatment, are curious about ADHD and its links to depression, or are simply looking for some reassurance that you're not alone, this video is for you.
Be sure to say hi in the comments - I'd love to make some new friends in the neurodivergence community, and don't forget to like, share and subscribe for more videos on mental health, ADHD, and related topics!
PLEASE NOTE: I am not a medical professional, this video is for entertainment and anecdotal information only. Always consult your healthcare provider if you are considering taking any medication to make sure it is safe and right for you.

Emily you’re doing amazing!! The titration period isn’t easy, and you’ve come so far. It’s not always going to be perfect as we learn our limits, and you’ve had A LOT on your plate this week. Be kind to yourself xxx

      Hi there Erin!
Thank you so much for your kind words - I am really trying to be kind to myself. It's sometimes more effort to be kind than to be cruel to yourself, do you know what I mean?
I hope you are doing well - thanks for supporting my channel :)

I can really empathize with your struggles I had the same last month moving house and finding work and starting medication, it took me 6 months of searching and I finally found somewhere great, better than all of the previous jobs I applied for. You have such a magnetic postive vibe I'm sure good things will come for you soon ! :)

It's a bit of an ADHD nightmare, isn't it? I'm so glad you found something you can enjoy and feels like a great role.
Thank you for your kind words - just gotta keep on keepin' on!

I have had a hell of a week also. I just want to scream. All part of the journey. Sometimes all this sucks so much. That being said let's pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off then get back on the bike. It's hard to remember how far we have come sometimes. Every tire gets a flat, all we need to do is patch it up and keep riding.

Thank you for your kind words and support - you're right, it is all part of the journey.

You will definitely get through it. Just keep putting the work in and you will succeed! Also from my experience with elvanse it seems that an amount of adjustment and reduction in effect is to be expected if the dose is too low and when your body compensates for the effects of the medicine. I’m now on 50mg of elvanse and it seems to be retaining a good effect and it’s been 3 weeks. The lower doses wore off after 3 days think I might need a little higher to last the full day and maximise the effect but we will see!

      Hey there Nathan :)
Thank you for your ongoing support of my channel - it's really wonderful to know that people care.
I'm going to keep going, for sure, I just sometimes think I need a bit of a cry and a mope to release some of the rejection-sensitivity that builds up inside.
I'm glad to hear that you have found a dosage that seems to be working for you - it'll be interesting to know if the effects wear off after a few months - do keep me updated! I'm thinking that next month my Dr may potentially put me on 54mg of Concerta XL, but we will see..
      Thank you again :)

@@adhdemily I went through the same process as you. When it began to wear off initially I thought that everything I’d hoped for in terms of the effect was just not possible or slipping away. Which is hard when we pin so much hope on a treatment. But given you had a good effect initially, hopefully it’s just a case of finding the best dose for you. I’m curious, does your psychiatrist use the QB test to measure your improvement or just clinical scales?

WOW!! The fear that my personality is only a list of symptoms is something I have been struggling with.
I am still not quite convinced yet that I am not ADHD personified.
But it is nice to hear you seem good surrounding it.
With your tire trouble, I just kept saying "Yes you can! You can do it!" Yelling at the screen. Then your man trap. Laff. You just needed a people pleasing ADHDer.

      @adhdemily  Рік тому

Hey Rick881, thanks for believing in me when it came to changing my tire! Haha. Thankfully my 'man trap' worked in the end and I caught my slightly autistic boyfriend (he loves to fix things)!
I hope you are feeling more confident in yourself; you are so much more than a diagnosis :)

Oh no! Is he feeling okay now? I have found that if I take my meds on an empty stomach/without food I will feel quite nauseous. The trick for me is taking them with my breakfast :)
I hope he feels better soon and that the meds help him manage his symptoms.

@@adhdemily Thanks Emily oh! Also meant to say, after graduating from my OT degree I wanted pt work ( single parent and I suspect undiagnosed ADHD). It took a year to find suitable work! I had loads of experience but the stars just didn't align. However eventually they did align and I now have the ideal job for me ...eventually. It honestly can sometimes just take time.
I highly endorse volunteering it keeps your experience relevant but also enables you to meet folk that might offer work connections. I have volunteered over the years too. X
